“Ranran, that was a misunderstanding.”
Bai Yiyi frowned slightly and explained softly, and added at the end, “Ranran, your brother ca to for a favor this morning.”
“Gu Kai?”
Wen Ran narrowed his eyes and asked with a smile.
“Mhm.”
Wen Ran, who had been lounging in the hanging chair, sat up, hopped down from it, and looked at the blossoming flowers in the courtyard below, “Go on, what did my brother ask you to help with?”

Just as Gu Kai said, Fang Zhiwei went to the hospital every day to visit her classmate’s father.
That classmate of hers had died in an accident during a trip two years ago, and her classmate’s sister, who had gotten married abroad, had not shown up to this day.
Fang Zhiwei ca to the hospital every day with a lunch box; previously, she brought one portion, but today, she brought two.
After delivering one portion to the ward, Fang Zhiwei didn’t go to Gu Kai’s office until after 5:30 with the other lunch box.
The nurse told her that Doctor Gu was still in the operating room, so Fang Zhiwei sat in his office to wait.
After her shift, Bai Yiyi took a taxi to the hospital following Gu Kai’s instructions.
Since she promised Gu Kai she would help, she intended to be dedicated, but she didn’t expect to run into Fang Zhiwei on the first day.
Pushing open the office door, Bai Yiyi saw not Gu Kai, but Fang Zhiwei, sitting on the sofa. A flicker of surprise passed through Bai Yiyi’s eyes.
Surprise also showed on Fang Zhiwei’s face as she saw Bai Yiyi and imdiately stood up.
“Yiyi, why are you here at the hospital? Are you looking for Ah Kai?” Fang Zhiwei forced a smile, her gaze inquisitively on Bai Yiyi.
A flicker of embarrassnt crossed Bai Yiyi’s face, but she quickly regained her composure. On her way here, she had thought about what to say to Fang Zhiwei if they t, just not that it would be so soon or alone.
“Sister Wei, are you here to see Gu Kai too?”
Bai Yiyi hesitated when saying Gu Kai’s na.
In the end, she decided to call him by his full na as before.
Fang Zhiwei’s face broke into a slight smile and beckoned her over to sit on the sofa. Bai Yiyi walked over with a smile and sat down on the sofa opposite Fang Zhiwei.
“Yiyi, haven’t you and Ah Kai always been at odds? What brings you to the hospital to look for him?”
Fang Zhiwei had all sorts of guesses in her heart from the mont Bai Yiyi appeared here; she was hoping she was wrong, yet she felt an uneasy worry.
Bai Yiyi pursed her lips and said lightly, “He called this afternoon saying there was sothing important and asked to co to the hospital to see him.”
“So it was Ah Kai who was looking for you. I was wondering how you would co to see Ah Kai on your own initiative.”
“Sister Wei, how is your classmate’s father doing?” Bai Yiyi didn’t know much about Fang Zhiwei’s classmate’s father, only that he was ill and had heard Gu Kai ntion it briefly; it seed to be so rare disease.
Fang Zhiwei lowered her gaze and said calmly, “I asked Ah Kai yesterday, he said that the condition is under control for now, and maybe surgery will take place after so ti.”
Gu Kai returned to his office after finishing the surgery, and at the door, he could hear the voices of Fang Zhiwei and Bai Yiyi coming from the office, though he couldn’t make out what they were discussing.
He hooked his lips slightly, pushed open the door, and looked at the two won seated on the sofa. While he, their host, was away, they seed quite engrossed in their conversation.
“Ah Kai, have you finished the surgery? Yiyi and I have been waiting for you here for half a day.”
Fang Zhiwei was the first to see Gu Kai and imdiately concluded her conversation with Bai Yiyi, rising to greet him.
Bai Yiyi remained seated on the sofa without moving. eting Gu Kai’s inquiring gaze, her eyes shimred quietly as she watched Fang Zhiwei approach Gu Kai.
As Fang Zhiwei extended her hand towards him, Gu Kai subtly avoided her touch. His gaze swept over the thermal container on the coffee table and, before she could speak, he asked Bai Yiyi, “Yiyi, did you bring this?”
Fang Zhiwei’s expression froze the mont Gu Kai’s eyes moved towards the thermal box on the coffee table, intending to speak. However, she hadn’t even gotten the chance when Gu Kai’s words hit her ears.
Not just Fang Zhiwei, Bai Yiyi also stared at Gu Kai in surprise.
She cursed inwardly, calling Gu Kai a sly guy. She couldn’t believe that, having eaten so much of the food Fang Zhiwei prepared, he wouldn’t know that this was the loving dinner Fang Zhiwei had brought for him.
Bai Yiyi looked disdainfully at Gu Kai and said indifferently, “This is what Sister Wei has brought for you, not . Didn’t you call this afternoon to say you had sothing to tell ? What is it, after all?”
Upon hearing this, a pleasant arc ford at the corners of Gu Kai’s mouth, “It’s about Tongtong.”
As he spoke, he walked up to Bai Yiyi, reaching out to put his hand on her shoulder. Bai Yiyi imdiately stepped aside, “What about Tongtong?”
“It wasn’t yesterday you said the elevator in your complex was broken, trapping you inside?”
Gu Kai responded with a question instead of an answer.
At his words, mories of the ambiguous mont in the elevator the day before ca flooding back to Bai Yiyi. Seeing Fang Zhiwei glance her way, a flush heated her face, her fair cheeks tinged with a touch of red.
Seeing Bai Yiyi’s cheeks redden, the smile on Gu Kai’s lips deepened, yet he didn’t continue on the topic. Instead, he turned to Fang Zhiwei, “Zhiwei, did you need sothing from ?”
Fang Zhiwei hadn’t quite recovered from the subtle dynamics present between him and Bai Yiyi. Caught off guard by Gu Kai’s question, she was montarily stunned and then forced a strained smile, saying, “I brought so food for Uncle Chen this afternoon and brought you sothing to eat as well.”
Gu Kai acted as if he just realized, “So it was you who brought it. I thought it was Yiyi who brought it because I ntioned to her this morning that there was a surgery and it could run late.”
Every sentence he spoke was loaded with implication.
He hinted at a special relationship between him and Bai Yiyi, rounding the conversation back to the subject he had addressed with Bai Yiyi earlier.
“Yiyi, Mo Xiuchen helped look for a few places. The environnt and transportation are excellent. Let’s go take a look now, pick out one you like, and I’ll buy it.”
Gu Kai spoke casually, as if buying a house for Bai Yiyi was no different than buying a dress or a toy for Tongtong.
Bai Yiyi widened her eyes in shock, “I don’t want a house bought by you.”
“So you and Tongtong move into my house?”
Gu Kai raised an eyebrow, his gaze loaded with aning. Beside him, Fang Zhiwei felt a pang in her chest, her hands at her sides instinctively clenching.
“Ah Kai, Yiyi, you two…”
Her own voice ca out tinged with three parts surprise, two parts skepticism, and a touch of sadness, ethereally lingering in the office.
Bai Yiyi’s eyes flashed with an unreadable emotion, about to offer an explanation, but Gu Kai beat her to it, “Zhiwei, why don’t you co along too? Yiyi’s judgnt might not be the best; you can help her choose one. Tongtong’s birthday is coming up soon; I’ll buy it as a gift for her.”
He paused slightly, then continued to Bai Yiyi, “If Zhiwei helps you and you still can’t find one, then you and Tongtong can just move into my place.”
