Qian Songnan stayed in Gu Kai’s office for half an hour. When he left, his expression was haggard and his eyes veiled with a layer of faint sadness.
Gu Kai closed the door, returned in front of the sofa, and instructed Bai Yiyi, who was sitting on the sofa, “Pour a glass of water.”
Bai Yiyi did not reply, stood up, and silently poured him water and handed it to him.
Gu Kai took the glass, tilted his head back, drank the water in one go, placed the cup on the table, leaned back into the sofa with his tall figure, and lifted his hand to massage his temples.
“What’s wrong?”
Bai Yiyi looked at him with slightly furrowed brows. Even when Qian Songnan was here, she felt that Gu Kai seed very tired. She wondered if it was the lighting, his complexion seed a bit off.
“Second drawer, hand a thermoter,” Gu Kai’s eyebrows slightly wrinkled, pressing on his temples with his thumb, his voice sowhat listless.
“Do you have a fever?”
A flicker of surprise crossed Bai Yiyi’s eyes, she stared at his handso face for a few seconds, turned around, went behind the office desk, opened the second drawer, and took out a thermoter.
“Here, take this.”
“Sit down, let check; my head hurts a bit.”
Gu Kai simply closed his eyes, Bai Yiyi sat beside him, her eyes fixed on him.
Even when his hand was injured, he never showed a trace of the sickly frailty of a patient, but now, he was devoid of that haughty, confident deanor.
This sight of him unexpectedly evoked a trace of pity in Bai Yiyi’s heart.
A few minutes later, Gu Kai handed the thermoter to Bai Yiyi, his eyes still closed, “Help see, what’s the temperature?”
Bai Yiyi uttered a sound, took the thermoter, looked at it against the light, and furrowed her brows: “Thirty-eight degrees, you’re running a fever. Could it be that the injury on your hand is infected?”
Listening to Bai Yiyi’s worried tone, Gu Kai finally slowly opened his eyes, his slender eyes narrowing into a slit as he looked at her, “It’s fine, I’ll just take so dicine.”
“Is that okay?”
Bai Yiyi asked with unease.
In the anti, she glanced again at his injured hand.
Gu Kai hooked the corner of his mouth, snatched the thermoter from her hand, stood up, walked out of the sofa, and slowly moved towards the office desk, his voice light as it spilled from his thin lips:
“If I died, would you be sad?”
Though the words seed mocking, Gu Kai did not even have the courage to look Bai Yiyi in the eyes when he asked; instead, he chose to turn his back to her.
Bai Yiyi was initially startled, then said, “Why would I be sad, you’re not my soone after all.”
Gu Kai’s steps slightly faltered, he turned around, his tall figure standing by the office desk, gazing at Bai Yiyi from a distance of a few ters.
Perhaps it was really because of the illness, he felt a bit sad in his heart.
Usually, no matter what Bai Yiyi said, he would not feel this way. His thin lips pursed, he silently turned around, walked to the back of the office desk and sat down, and took out so fever-reducing dicine to take.
Bai Yiyi blinked, the kind of feeling she had before slowly creeping back into her heart.
Her hands by her side clenched gently, she hesitated, wanting to say sothing, but Gu Kai’s phone rang a second earlier.
Gu Kai ignored the insistent ringtone of the phone and took the dicine to the water dispenser, poured water, swallowed the dicine, and then took out his phone to answer the call.
“Hello.”
“Ah Kai, I have sothing very important, we need to et. Where are you now?”
The voice of Fang Zhiwei ca through the night sky, transmitted by the radio waves, and her tone was not very calm, sounding like she indeed had sothing urgent.

“A delivery?”
Upon hearing this, Gu Kai’s eyes sharpened, looking up at Bai Yiyi who was sitting on the sofa, his voice tinged with somberness.
“If you’re busy now, let’s et tomorrow. I’ll visit Uncle Chen in the hospital tomorrow morning, and drop by your office afterward.”
Fang Zhiwei did not elaborate further.
Gu Kai hesitated, “Where are you now? I’ll co to you.”
“I’m at ho.”
“Okay, I’ll be there in half an hour.”
On the sofa, Bai Yiyi couldn’t hear what Fang Zhiwei was saying, she only heard Gu Kai’s words, and upon hearing that he was going to see Fang Zhiwei, she looked down and stopped watching him, pulling out her phone to pass the ti.
Gu Kai hung up the phone, stepped out from behind the desk, and explained to Bai Yiyi who was looking at her phone: “Fang Zhiwei needs to see , so I’m going to her place now. You should head ho first.”
Bai Yiyi stood up, “You’re running a fever and haven’t had dinner yet, is that okay?”
She initially wanted to suggest, would it not be better to see her tomorrow? But then she thought, would that question lead Gu Kai to misunderstand?
At the last mont, she changed her phrasing.
Gu Kai shrugged indifferently: “It doesn’t matter, if I died you wouldn’t be sad anyway, maybe you’d even be happy.”

Bai Yiyi just glared fiercely at him, and strode out of the office ahead of him.
“Drive slowly on the way back.”
Gu Kai did not accompany her downstairs, standing tall at the office door, he advised Bai Yiyi who had walked a few steps away.
Bai Yiyi left the hospital and looked up at the building once more.
Pressing her lips together tightly, she briskly walked to her car, opened the door, and sat inside.
With one hand on the seatbelt and the other hand hitting her head hard, she warned herself in a low voice: Bai Yiyi, stop overthinking. Gu Kai eting Fang Zhiwei is none of your business.
You and Gu Kai have even been to bed together; tonight was just a kiss, nothing so serious.
She raised her hand, her index finger lightly touching her lips, unable to help herself, the kiss from the night erged in her mind, causing her heartbeat to quicken uncontrollably.
No matter if she admits it or not, tonight’s kiss was different from the forceful one before.
Her own heart had begun to change, her feelings for that man were completely beyond her control.
Suddenly, a sharp ringtone startled her, causing her hand to tremble and slip from her lips.
She pulled out her phone, and seeing the caller ID, her brow furrowed irritably. Staring at the phone screen for several seconds before she pressed the answer button: “Hello, mom.”
“Yiyi, what’s wrong, you sound off. You didn’t have another fight with Ah Kai, did you?”
Over the phone, Bai Yuqin imdiately sensed sothing was off with Bai Yiyi’s emotions.
Bai Yiyi rolled her eyes, saying exasperatedly: “Mom, can you not bring up Gu Kai every ti you call? If you’re so concerned about him, why don’t you call him instead?”
