Chapter 1319: 1318 Bai Yiyi, I am a patient

Yiyi looked at the smartphone in Wen Jin’s hand with surprise.

Wen Jin’s lips curled into a smile, “Yes, he’s the one who delivered the smartphone. Turns out, he’s already quite patient for being able to answer calls all morning before delivering the phone.”

“Were there a lot of people calling?”

Yiyi blinked in confusion, following Wen Jin toward the elevator.

“Since Zhixing gave his phone, I’ve already taken a dozen or more calls.” Wen Jin spoke with a lightness, arriving at the elevator just as it ca up. Wen Jin gestured for Yiyi to go ahead before stepping in himself.

“That many, isn’t that like a call every two minutes.” Yiyi knew when Lu Zhiyan arrived.

“Mhm.”

Wen Jin nodded.

As they exited the elevator, Wen Jin asked Yiyi to wait for him at the factory entrance while he went to get his car.

Yiyi had just reached the factory entrance when her phone started to ring, showing Gu Kai’s number. She answered, and it was Tongtong’s clear voice, “Mommy, ti to eat.”

“Tongtong, haven’t you had lunch yet?”

Hearing Tongtong’s voice, a smile imdiately blood between Yiyi’s brows, and her tone beca gentle and cheerful, “Mommy can’t co back for lunch, I’ll co ho to accompany you in the evening.”

“Are you going to work overti again at noon?” The mont Yiyi finished, the voice drilling into her ear changed back to Gu Kai’s.

Her brow furrowed, hearing this voice always soured her mood.

“Yes, I’m working overti.”

“I’ve co down with a fever again.”

Next second, Gu Kai’s tone shifted, as if he transford from a domineering and hateful man into a pitiful little boy in need of comfort.

This change tightened Yiyi’s heart uncomfortably.

Subconsciously pursing her lips, the grip on her phone grew tighter, “If you have a fever, go to the hospital, what’s the use of telling ?”

“I just got a call from Aunt Bai, she said, you should take care of , Yiyi, I’m sick, you can’t have this attitude towards . Do you know how long I’ve been cooking with one hand? I’ll give you half an hour to drive back and have lunch.”

“I really have sothing to do.” Yiyi frowned, her voice laced with annoyance.

“Then shall I and Tongtong bring it to you?” In the end, Gu Kai wasn’t a man with a good temper, perhaps he simply couldn’t maintain one with Yiyi, their conversation escalating toward anger once again.

He obviously didn’t really intend to bring it to her.

Yiyi could easily detect the sarcasm and displeasure in his words, while beside her, a horn sounded—it was Wen Jin’s car pulling up next to her.

She stepped forward, opened the car door, and sat inside. Seeing her expression, Wen Jin chuckled and asked, “Is that Ah Kai’s call?”

“Mhm.”

“Let Ah Jin listen to the call.”

Gu Kai, on the other end, imdiately ordered Yiyi to pass the phone to Wen Jin upon hearing his voice.

A flicker of apology crossed Yiyi’s eyes as she handed the phone to Wen Jin.

Wen Jin took the phone, tapping the speakerphone button, “Ah Kai, what’s up?”

“Tell Yiyi to co back for lunch.”

Upon hearing this, Wen Jin’s lips curled into a teasing smile while glancing at Yiyi, seeing a thin layer of anger on her cheeks, he said in a jesting tone, “Well, I can’t promise whether Yiyi will co back or not, how’s your hand injury? Feeling any better?”

“No, it accidentally split open again when I was cooking just now.”

“Still cooking, you’re really keeping busy, huh.” Yiyi simply turned her head to look out the car window.

“Tell Yiyi, if she doesn’t co back, Tongtong won’t even eat her lunch.”

Wen Jin responded affirmatively, asking if he wanted to speak with Yiyi any longer, but Gu Kai hung up the phone directly.

“Yiyi, you should head back, Tongtong is waiting for you. She doesn’t want to eat; it’s bad if she gets too hungry,” Wen Jin returned the cellphone to Bai Yiyi.

Bai Yiyi asked apologetically, “Then, are you going to et that person alone?”

“Yeah, no worries, I’ll check things out first,” Wen Jin reassured her with a smile, gesturing for her to get out of the car.

“Well, I’m really going then,” Bai Yiyi felt that she was a derelict secretary, leaving because of personal issues at a ti like this.

Wen Jin motioned her away, “Hurry up and go, don’t be late in the afternoon.”

***

After Bai Yiyi left, Wen Jin received a call from Gu Yan and chatted with him for over ten minutes.

He drove to the agreed-upon ‘One Cup of Tea’; he was already an hour and fifteen minutes late for the eting ti with the other party.

It was a small tea shop.

Not a very upscale place, as this street was an old one, hence the tea shop had a strong sense of nostalgia.

After Wen Jin got out of his car, he had only taken a few steps when a scene outside ‘One Cup of Tea’ caught his eye.

A burly man, gripping a young girl like an eagle clutching a chick, erged from the tea shop.

Not too far away, Wen Jin overheard the man’s abusive shouting, “You actually dare to betray ? I shouldn’t have let you and your mother move into my house at the beginning. Wait until we get ho and see how I deal with you.”

“Zhang Jinlei, you bastard, let go.”

The girl fought and bit, trying to break free from the man’s grip.

“Slap!”

The man, bitten on the back of his hand, released his grip in pain, but then furiously slapped the girl across the face, causing it to turn to the side.

“You little bitch, you dare to bite ?”

The man glared at the girl fiercely.

“I will bite you to death,” the girl retorted angrily after being slapped.

“Co on, I will starve you to death at ho,” the man grabbed the girl by the collar of her shoulder again, nearly lifting her up.

From a distance, a cold glimr passed through Wen Jin’s narrowed eyes, as the timid voice he’d heard on the phone echoed in his head. Perhaps due to the call quality, it sounded sowhat like the one he was hearing now, but not quite the sa.

After a mont’s hesitation, Wen Jin took out his cell phone and redialed the number from the morning.

Two seconds later, the burly man’s phone rang; he had to let go of the girl to take out his phone and answer the call.

Wen Jin strode forward, pulling the slapped girl, and said in a deep voice, “Co with .”

“You are…”

Caught off guard by a strange man, the girl’s face showed surprise, but upon hearing Wen Jin’s voice, she blinked, seeming to think he was not a bad person. At least much better than the man who had just hit her. She steeled her heart, didn’t struggle, and decided to follow him.

“Who are you, let her go.”

The man, looking down to get his phone, heard the voice, looked up, and saw Wen Jin walking away with the girl.

He imdiately beca irate and chased after them threateningly.

Wen Jin took a couple of steps with the girl before they were blocked by the burly man; his handso face darkened and his eyes glared coldly at the man: “Move aside.”

“You are Wen Jin?”

The man scrutinized Wen Jin for a few seconds and recognized him.

Wen Jin scoffed coldly, “I am Wen Jin, and now I am taking her with .”

“Think you can take my sister just like that? Not so easy,” the man glared venomously at the girl behind him, “Jing Xiaocha, co here.”
