Chapter 1323: 1322 As long as you’re happy
“Pfft—”
Wen Ran couldn’t help it and burst out laughing.
Bai Yiyi gave her a glare, “Ranran, co out with , let Qing Feng give a ride to the factory.”
Wen Ran nodded, stood up, and walked out of the living room with her, “Yiyi, when I just ntioned my brother wants to find a sister-in-law, why did you react so strongly, telling not to listen to his nonsense? Could it be that my brother told you sothing?”
As Bai Yiyi was getting into the car, Wen Ran asked in a low voice.
Upon hearing this, Bai Yiyi’s movent of getting into the car paused slightly, and she turned her head to look at Wen Ran, “He didn’t say anything.”
Wen Ran pursed her lips, “Then go ahead to work, I might co to see you guys later.”
“Mm, I’ll leave Tongtong in your care,” Bai Yiyi said, before getting into the car and instructing Qing Feng to drive.
Watching the car drive away from the villa and out of sight, Wen Ran went back inside, thought for a mont, and took out her phone to dial Gu Kai’s number.
After a few rings, Gu Kai’s voice ca through, “Hello, Ranran.”
“Brother, Yiyi said you took her car away. Isn’t your hand injured and you can’t drive? How co you drove again?”
Wen Ran asked in a reproachful tone.
While speaking, she walked slowly up the stairs.
“My hand is fine. Did Bai Yiyi co to your house?” Gu Kai asked in return on the other end of the phone, as if Bai Yiyi hadn’t been to Ranran’s house, she wouldn’t have known.
“Mm, you took her car, so she had Qing Feng drive her to work. Brother, did you and Yiyi have a fight? I noticed sothing was off about her. She even told not to listen to your nonsense.”
“I didn’t argue with her,” Gu Kai’s voice was definitively stern, unmistakably not a fignt of Wen Ran’s imagination.
“That’s weird then. When I ntioned you’re going to find a sister-in-law, why would Yiyi tell not to listen to your nonsense?”
Wen Ran furrowed her brows, her face full of confusion.
On the other end of the phone, Gu Kai fell silent for a few seconds, “Ranran, if I were with Bai Yiyi, would you want her as your sister-in-law?”
Upon hearing Gu Kai’s probing words, Wen Ran’s footsteps halted.
It wasn’t because Gu Kai was asking her whether she’d accept Bai Yiyi as her sister-in-law, but because of the conflict in his words, and the nervousness of fearing she wouldn’t agree.
Her heart suddenly tightened.
Wen Ran’s grip on her phone tightened, her voice soft and gentle: “Brother, of course I would. If you and Yiyi were together, Tongtong would also have a complete family. Most importantly, you should be happy.”
She knew her brother had always been unable to let go of his hang-ups.
Gu Kai felt that Bai Yiyi was Fu Jingyi’s daughter, and Fu Jingyi had stolen away his sister, causing his mother to die of depression, and it took him and his sister over twenty years to be reunited.
“Ranran, thank you.”
“You’re being silly, you’re my brother, why thank ? Brother, rest assured, no matter what you do, I’ll support you unconditionally.”
Wen Ran’s voice beca light-hearted.
“Mm, I know. I’m going to the hospital ward now, I’ll hang up first, huh.”

Police station
Zhang Jinlei looked at Lu Zhiyan incredulously: “Didn’t you say that providing clues not only cos with a reward of ten million but also absolves of my past offenses? Why has it changed now?”
“Right, but you didn’t offer clues voluntarily; you were reported. So now, you have two options: beco a cooperating informant and confess everything you know, or prepare to spend your life in prison.”
Towards the end, Lu Zhiyan’s expression darkened, and his suddenly harsh tone made Zhang Jinlei’s face turn pale with fear.
“On the way to the police station just now, I wanted to co clean, but you wouldn’t let . Now you’re saying I was reported? Who reported ?”
“What you need to do now is to answer the police’s questions.”
Lu Zhiyan’s eyes sharply glanced at Zhang Jinlei, signaling the officer beside him to continue the interrogation, while he stood up and left the interrogation room.
Back in his office, another officer had already taken notes on the clues provided by Jing Xiaocha. Seeing him co in, the officer stood up, briefed him, and left the office.
“Is that all you know?”
Lu Zhiyan picked up the notes to read them over and then asked Jing Xiaocha.
“Yes, Uncle Police, that’s all,” replied Jing Xiaocha.
“You’re calling Uncle Police?” The focus for Lu Zhiyan wasn’t whether that’s all she knew, but instead, he hod in on the expression “Uncle Police.”
Wen Jin’s mouth twitched, “How many days have you gone without shaving? You indeed look like an Uncle Police.”
“Ah Jin, are you the one encouraging such a pretty girl to call Uncle Police, and spreading bad things about ?” Lu Zhiyan touched his stubbled chin; yes, there was stubble. “All this is in aid of solving the case sooner to clear your na, isn’t it?”
“Brother Wen didn’t say anything bad about you. It’s just that I think calling you Uncle Police better expresses my respect for you. What I know is only this much. If I recall anything later, or if there are any new findings, I’ll definitely call Brother Wen imdiately,” Jing Xiaocha said.
Jing Xiaocha was an outgoing girl. She had t them less than an hour ago, but they were already familiar with each other.
“It’s Jing Xiaocha, right?”
Lu Zhiyan frowned, sizing her up.
Standing at attention, Jing Xiaocha placed her hands by her sides and respectfully answered, “Yes, Uncle Police, my na is Jing Xiaocha.”
“Don’t keep calling Uncle Police. It makes feel so old. You’re a kind and lively young lady. Since you call Ah Jin Brother Wen, I’ll allow you to call Brother Lu, or even Officer Big Bro,” Lu Zhiyan said.
Lu Zhiyan’s lips curled into a smile. This Jing Xiaocha was quite amusing. She had only just been slapped by Zhang Jinlei, yet now she seed completely unfazed.
Wen Jin glanced at Jing Xiaocha, then said to Lu Zhiyan, “Zhixing, if there’s nothing else, I’ll go back to work at the factory. Later, you can send soone to take Jing Xiaocha ho, and incidentally, have Ah Kai arrange for her mother to get a check-up.”
“Hold on. What’s this arrangent you’re talking about? Make it clear,” said Lu Zhiyan, utterly confused by Wen Jin’s words, furrowing his brows.
Jing Xiaocha pursed her lips and took the initiative to explain: “Let say it. Here’s the thing, I have agreed with Brother Wen—sorry, calling you President Wen feels too old. Calling you Brother Wen feels more intimate.”
“It’s fine,” said Wen Jin, waving his hand dismissively.
She had been addressing him as such just before, and now she felt the need to apologize belatedly.
Upon hearing him say it was fine, Jing Xiaocha imdiately bead a smile, “I’ve agreed with Brother Wen that there’s no need to pay a ten million reward for providing clues to solve the case. All I need is a loan of three hundred thousand. Also, my mom is sick…”
After hearing Jing Xiaocha’s words, Lu Zhiyan nodded in comprehension: “I understand. I’ll take you ho myself later. As for your mother’s hospitalization, that’s just a simple request for Ah Jin. Don’t worry about it.”
“Thank you, Officer Lu, thank you, President Wen,” Jing Xiaocha gratefully bowed to each of them and then said apologetically, “I’m sorry. I should have told you earlier, but I was being kept by Zhang Jinlei…”
