Chapter 1354: 1353 mobile phone power off
Seeing Gu Kai finally let go of his hand, Lu Zhiyan exhaled deeply.
“Ah Kai, you go wait for outside first.” Lu Zhiyan was afraid Gu Kai might impulsively strangle Li En to death and didn’t want him to stay here any longer.
Li En gasped for fresh air, his mouth wide open. Watching Gu Kai about to leave, he fearlessly added fuel to the fire, “Gu Kai, if I were you, I would never be with the daughter of my enemy.”
Gu Kai had just taken two steps when he froze at those words.
Before he could turn back, Lu Zhiyan rushed forward and pushed him out of the hospital ward.
Gu Kai’s hands, hanging at his sides, balled into tight fists, his slender knuckles faintly showing traces of veins.
Lu Zhiyan turned and shot a look at the two prison guards, then followed Gu Kai out of the ward and pulled him a few steps away before he comforted him, saying, “Ah Kai, don’t fall for Li En’s tricks. The reason he wants to see you is to provoke you. No matter what he says, just don’t believe him.”
Gu Kai said nothing, his thin lips pressed into a cold, sharp line.
Within his eyes, emotions churned tumultuously, forcibly suppressed, like massive waves brewing beneath the surface of the sea, seemingly ready to break through and unleash chaos at any mont.

Lu Zhiyan gazed at Gu Kai’s expression, his eyes tinted with worry.
Suddenly, he understood why Wen Jin didn’t want Gu Kai to co see Li En in the first place.

Then, early this morning, he resorted to suicide to threaten them, demanding to see Gu Kai, leaving Lu Zhiyan no choice but to call him.
Gu Kai took several deep breaths, calming himself slightly, before looking at Lu Zhiyan. “Is it true that only after eting will he agree to confess?”
“Yes.”
Lu Zhiyan apologized, saying, “If not for this, I wouldn’t have called you.”
“Go back in then. Now that he’s seen , he has no reason not to talk.” Gu Kai glanced at the hospital room door, his tone so calm it was as though nothing had happened monts ago.
For a brief mont, Lu Zhiyan felt as if the man who had nearly strangled Li En in the ward wasn’t the sa Gu Kai standing before him.
“Wait a bit, I’ll go take a look inside, and then we’ll leave together.”
Lu Zhiyan still had sothing to say to Gu Kai.
An emotion flickered across Gu Kai’s eyes, just as his phone suddenly rang. He nodded slightly to Lu Zhiyan, pulled out his phone, and answered the call.
When he saw the na on the caller ID, Gu Kai’s gaze shifted.
His grip on the phone subtly tightened, and after pressing his lips together, he walked a few steps forward to stand by the window before answering, “Hello.”
“Daddy.”
The soft, child-like voice that ca through the phone carried a mix of delight and longing. Hearing it made Gu Kai’s heart constrict sharply.
He lowered his gaze and spoke with a gentle tone, “Tongtong, why did you call Daddy?”
“Miss Daddy.”
Tongtong’s voice had a warmth that could comfort hearts.
Gu Kai’s lips unconsciously curved into a faint smile, yet under closer scrutiny, one could see a subtle difference from his usual, tender deanor.
“Tongtong, Daddy’s busy and can’t talk to you now.”
“Tongtong, now that you’ve heard Daddy’s voice and spoken with Daddy, don’t stop Daddy from taking care of things.”
On the other end, Bai Yiyi seed to be coaxing Tongtong, but Gu Kai heard her voice, and alongside it, Li En’s taunting words echoed again in his mind: “Bai Yuqin once helped Fu Jingyi evade police pursuit…”
“Bai Yiyi has also t Wen Ran, though Wen Ran hasn’t t her.”
His grip on the phone suddenly tightened further. Before Tongtong’s voice could co through again, he abruptly ended the call.

Bai Yiyi and Tongtong were at Wen Ran’s ho.
Today was Jing Xiaocha’s mother’s funeral, and Wen Ran attended the funeral on behalf of Wen Jin.
Bai Yiyi had overlooked this matter. Early in the morning, Gu Kai called to say he needed to go to the hospital temporarily, and Bai Yiyi, not wanting to take Tongtong out alone, ca to Wen Ran’s ho to let Tongtong play with her three little treasures.
As it turned out, both Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen were not at ho, so Bai Yiyi ended up helping to watch the children.

Tongtong was easy to console. She returned the phone to Bai Yiyi before dashing off to play with the siblings.
Looking at the call duration displayed on the phone, Bai Yiyi frowned slightly, thinking to herself how Gu Kai actually ended the call without hesitation.
Clearly, he must be very busy.
While lost in thought, a sudden notification sound broke the silence.
Lowering her head, Bai Yiyi unlocked the phone and read the ssage: “I’m traveling for work temporarily, about a week.”
The ssage was sent by Gu Kai.
Bai Yiyi blinked her eyes in confusion. He hadn’t ntioned anything about traveling during the call earlier, yet now he was saying he needed to go.
She furrowed her brows in puzzlent, hesitated for two seconds, then dialed Gu Kai’s number.
“Sorry, the number you dialed is currently unavailable.” The automated voice on the other end chilled Bai Yiyi’s heart inexplicably.
Her face changed slightly, her lips gently pressed into a line.
A gut feeling told her this wasn’t just a simple business trip for Gu Kai. Although she didn’t know him particularly well, she had co to understand so facets of him.
Given Gu Kai’s personality and their current relationship, it was improbable for him to go on a trip without making a single call—even if it was urgent, he should have inford her.
Even in the worst-case scenario, if he didn’t care about her, he would at least care about Tongtong.
Thinking of this, Bai Yiyi suddenly felt an unexplained frustration rising in her chest. She tried dialing again, but the response was the sa as before.
Bai Yiyi cursed under her breath and instead dialed Wen Ran’s number.

Wen Ran received Bai Yiyi’s call just as the funeral wrapped up.
Only a handful of people had co to Jing Xiaocha’s mother’s funeral. By now, everyone had left, leaving only Wen Ran. At a distance, Qing Feng approached her and asked if she wanted to head back.
Wen Ran asked Jing Xiaocha to get into the car, saying she wanted to talk to her.
Jing Xiaocha didn’t refuse and followed her. After getting in, Wen Ran glanced at the caller ID and said, “Miss Jing, I’ll take this call first.”
“Hello, Yiyi.”
Jing Xiaocha casually examined the interior of the car as she waited.
At nineteen years old, she had never ridden in such a luxurious car. Every tiny detail within seed more valuable than herself.

It’s likely sothing urgent; that’s why my brother didn’t have ti to call. I’ll contact the hospital first and let you know what I find out.”
