Chapter 1400: 1399 can see you anyti
Gu Kai lowered his gaze, his eyes lingering for a mont on his hand gripping the steering wheel, before lifting them to look at her again. In his eyes, a hint of emotion appeared—one she couldn’t understand. “When I heard what Li En said earlier, I was so shocked and overwheld that I lied to you about going on a business trip…”
“Ah Kai.”
Bai Yiyi softly interrupted him.
Gu Kai’s eyes reflected a trace of confusion as he looked at her, puzzled.
Bai Yiyi sighed gently, “You’re not the only one who couldn’t handle it—even I couldn’t. Honestly, you don’t need to force yourself for anyone, least of all for Tongtong. You don’t need to push yourself into doing sothing against your will.”
She loved him, and she hoped he would be happy.
If being together only reminded him of hate and filled his heart with discomfort, she would rather let him find a girl who could bring him joy and be happy with soone else.
Even though the thought stabbed at her heart, even though the idea left her in pain, she was still willing to let go.
Even during the ten days of his disappearance, where he turned off his phone and cut contact with her, she didn’t resent him. She simply made the final decision—to let go.
Gu Kai’s eyes flickered slightly. “I’m not doing it for Tongtong.” His voice was low but firm—a kind of unwavering certainty that brooked no argunt.
His gaze was calm and distant as he looked at her. “I told you before that I liked you. I said it again this afternoon—I like you. Now, I want to say it one more ti.”
Bai Yiyi’s eyes complicatedly locked onto his.
“Bai Yiyi, I truly like you. Even if you’re Fu Jingyi and Bai Yuqin’s daughter, I still like you. I won’t hide it from you—during those ten days, I tried to forget you. But in the end, I couldn’t.”
As he spoke, a note of helplessness seeped into his voice, a frustration directed at his own inability to control his heart.
And a hint of desolation that inexplicably tugged at Bai Yiyi’s heartstrings.
“But I don’t want to give up like this. You’re the first woman I’ve ever liked. Not only that, but you’re also the mother of my daughter. Even though we were only lovers for two days, those two days brought so much happiness.”
“…”
Bai Yiyi pressed her lips together, unsure of what to say.
Sothing swelled in her heart, seeping slowly into every bone and fiber of her being.
She pulled her hands out of her pockets and clasped them in front of her.
“Give so ti, and give yourself so ti too. When we can both face everything calmly, let’s bring Aunt Bai back.”
“Ah Kai?”
Bai Yiyi’s nose suddenly stung, and the words escaped her lips.
Gu Kai’s gaze softened, a faint smile erging at the corners of his lips. His ink-black eyes carried a trace of warmth. “I hope that even if we can’t be together, you won’t leave G City. I want to be able to see you whenever I want.”
His request wasn’t too much.
As long as he could see her, as long as he knew she was there.
“I won’t leave.” Bai Yiyi bit her lip lightly, her heart feeling like it had been tipped over and mixed with countless emotions all at once.
Gu Kai, who had always been so proud and arrogant, had treated her so poorly before. And yet, at this mont, he was humbly asking her not to leave G City, asking to always see her.
The softest part of her soul seed to have been struck forcefully.
A kind of indescribable pain spread through her chest in an instant.
She looked carefully at the man in front of her, with his handso brows and refined, noble deanor, hesitating as she said, “There is sothing I think I should tell you.”
“What is it?”
Gu Kai’s eyes were tinged with curiosity, his gaze kind and gentle as it rested on her.
Just monts ago, when she replied that she wouldn’t leave, a hint of joy had flashed through his eyes. Even in the dim light, Bai Yiyi had caught it.
“This afternoon, Ranran went to Fang Zhiwei’s house.”
Gu Kai’s eyes flickered slightly, and he explained warmly, “Ranran and Fang Zhiwei have a fairly decent relationship. Back when Professor Fang passed away, she and my father were the ones who attended the funeral together. My dad even asked her to occasionally visit Fang Zhiwei.”
Bai Yiyi listened to Gu Kai’s explanation, unsure whether to be touched or amused.
But right now, she couldn’t smile. She simply interrupted his explanation, “You don’t need to explain. I didn’t misunderstand. In fact, I was the one who told her about Fang Zhiwei’s possible situation, which led Ranran to visit her.”
“Fang Zhiwei’s possible situation?”
Gu Kai looked at Bai Yiyi with confusion, his handso brows furrowing slightly.
“Fang Zhiwei has been diagnosed with depression. I ca across her crossing the street a while ago—she nearly got hit by a car. This afternoon, Ranran called her, and from her housemaid’s words, it was confird as true.”
Bai Yiyi’s words caused Gu Kai’s expression to shift subtly.
“Depression?”
He repeated the word, his thin lips pressing slightly together.
Bai Yiyi paused for a mont before saying, “If you have ti, you should visit her.”
***
Wen Ran hadn’t expected Gu Kai to visit their house so late at night.
The good mont was interrupted, and Mo Xiuchen’s face darkened with displeasure. “Ranran, just ignore him.”
“Xiuchen, my brother must have sothing important to say.” Wen Ran smiled, playfully brushing away his hand that had snuck into her pajamas, stopping him from teasing her further.
“Alright, give him ten minutes. If he can’t finish in ten minutes, I won’t let him step into our house ever again.”
Mo Xiuchen said harshly.
Ah Kai had disrupted his plans more than once, always at the worst possible monts, leaving him utterly frustrated.
“Okay.”
Wen Ran smiled as she coaxed him, leaning in to kiss him on the lips. Just as Mo Xiuchen was about to grab her, she hopped off the bed.
“Xiuchen, if you don’t want to go downstairs, that’s fine. I’ll go alone.”
“I’ll head down in a bit.” Mo Xiuchen thought to himself, if Ranran went downstairs alone, perhaps Ah Kai might be smart enough to leave quickly.
Wen Ran buttoned up her pajamas, tidied her hair that Mo Xiuchen had mussed up, and then headed downstairs.
In the living room, Gu Kai stood up from the sofa as soon as he saw her. “Ranran, I won’t take up too much of your ti, just a few minutes.”
Wen Ran smiled, walking over and sitting by his side. “Brother, what’s the matter? Why are you here so late at night?”
“I just heard from Yiyi that Fang Zhiwei has been diagnosed with depression?” Gu Kai asked directly.
Wen Ran’s eyes flickered slightly, her smile fading. “Yiyi told you so soon, huh? I originally wasn’t planning to share it with you.”
“So it’s true?”
Before coming, Gu Kai had already expected it—Bai Yiyi wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true.
Still, hearing Wen Ran confirm it caused his heart to sink slightly.
His refined brows knit together gently.
“I went to Sister Wei’s house this afternoon. She had just woken up, and as we chatted, I noticed she was a little different than usual.”
She paused for a mont before continuing, “Later, she herself admitted that she had visited a psychological clinic so ti ago and was diagnosed with depression. She said she didn’t know what to do.”
“What did you say to her?”
Gu Kai frowned, his tone slightly heavy.
“I told her she should seek treatnt. Her condition doesn’t appear to be too severe right now. If she starts treatnt promptly, she can recover sooner. On the other hand, if she allows it to continue unchecked, it’ll only worsen over ti.”
“Did she agree?” Gu Kai asked with concern.
