Chapter 1405: 1404 phones must not be turned off
Wen Jin hesitated for a mont. Instead of imdiately agreeing to Lu Zhiyan, he asked him to wait.
He lowered his voice and asked Jing Xiaocha, who was sitting on the sofa looking at him while he was on the phone, “Xiaocha, are you free all morning?”
“I’m free.”
Jing Xiaocha shook her head and answered softly.
Only then did Wen Jin say into the phone, “Have you reached the spot yet, or are you still on the way? Give an address.”
Upon hearing this, Lu Zhiyan instantly replied with an address without a second thought.
At the end, worried, he reminded him, “Ah Jin, you absolutely must co. We’re waiting for you.”
“Brother Wen, did you just agree to Officer Lu?”
Although Jing Xiaocha couldn’t hear Lu Zhiyan over the phone, she could make out a general idea of Wen Jin’s responses.
Seeing him hang up the call, she imdiately asked out of concern.
“Mmhmm, since you’re free all morning, why not co along to help.”
“Alright, I’ve already promised Sister Wen to spend New Year with you, so wherever you go, I’ll follow.” Jing Xiaocha playfully stuck out her tongue.
Wen Jin’s gaze flickered slightly.
Earlier, as soon as Jing Xiaocha arrived at his house, she told him that Ranran wanted her to spend this New Year with him while also keeping an eye on him to make sure he didn’t drink too much or smoke too many cigarettes.
Though she was indeed adorable, familiar with his factory, and already fit in—it was still hard for him to get used to her constantly being around.
No matter how similar to Ranran she seed, she wasn’t Ranran.
Those days years ago, when Ranran was always by Wen Jin’s side, had undeniably been the happiest and most joyful ti of his life…
“Brother Wen, what are you thinking about?”
Seeing him lost in thought, Jing Xiaocha tilted her head inquisitively and blinked at him.
It seed to her that he often spaced out—she had seen this happen several tis.
Wen Jin’s thoughts were pulled back by her voice, and he replied flatly, “Nothing. If you want to stick around, that’s fine—but I have one condition.”
“What condition, Brother Wen? Tell .” Jing Xiaocha laughed and imdiately stood up from the sofa, her bright eyes fixed on him.
“In a while, we’ll be heading out to the countryside. Zhiyan has a woman by his side nad Fang Zhiwei. You need to beco friends with her and make her like you.”
“Brother Wen, is this Miss Fang soone you like?”
Without thinking, Jing Xiaocha blurted out the question. As soon as the words left her mouth, she suddenly rembered that Wen Jin’s ntion of Fang Zhiwei referred to the person two gossiping won had discussed last ti in the restroom.
She must be Yiyi’s rival in love!
Wen Jin frowned and said sternly, “Stop spouting nonsense.”
He hesitated briefly, deciding he should explain the background to Jing Xiaocha. If he wanted her help, he couldn’t let her remain clueless and potentially say the wrong things.
“I’m sorry, Brother Wen. Don’t be angry. I get it now.” Jing Xiaocha clasped her hands together apologetically and added, “I wasn’t thinking before I spoke, but as soon as I asked, I rembered Fang Zhiwei was one of the main subjects of that gossip last ti.”
“Yes, she was Ah Kai’s girlfriend before. After they broke up, she has never been able to move on. Then, when her father, Professor Fang, passed away, it may have caused her to grieve too deeply. I’ve heard that she’s emotionally unstable now, possibly showing signs of depression.”
“What?”
Jing Xiaocha’s eyes widened as she covered her mouth, her round eyes darting about. “Brother Wen, I understand now. You want to get close to Fang Zhiwei, befriend her, and help her step out of her sorrow so she doesn’t remain depressed, right?”
Wen Jin nodded. “Exactly. But you absolutely must not ntion anything about depression to her. She can’t know that you know this.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t be that silly. Brother Wen, how did you find out about this?”
“And don’t bring up Ah Kai or Yiyi in front of Fang Zhiwei.”
Ignoring Jing Xiaocha’s question, Wen Jin continued giving instructions.
Jing Xiaocha agreed to everything, flashing a playful smile. “Brother Wen, don’t worry. I’ll complete the mission properly, and then I won’t have to spend New Year alone.”
Wen Jin’s eyes shifted slightly. “If you fail to complete the task, it doesn’t matter that Ranran sent you here—it won’t help.”

By the ti Gu Kai dropped Bai Yiyi off at her house in the countryside, it was already noon.
Bai Yiyi knew he wouldn’t et her mother Bai Yuqin in the small town, so she suggested he park the car, “There’s a restaurant here. It’s not as upscale as the ones in G City, but you can get sothing to eat here before heading back.”
“Where is your house?”
Gu Kai glanced outside through the car window and then turned back to ask Bai Yiyi.
“It’s just ahead, very close. I’ll walk there on my own—you don’t have to drive any further.”
Bai Yiyi pressed her lips together and replied softly.
Gu Kai’s gaze flickered briefly, then he looked ahead again. Bai Yiyi extended her hand to point in the direction of her house, prompting him to reply in a low voice, “Alright, head back on your own. I’m not hungry. I’ll eat back in G City.”
Bai Yiyi wanted to say sothing more, but Gu Kai had already opened the car door and stepped out. He strode around the vehicle to open her door for her.
A few steps away, a group of young boys stared curiously at his car—having never seen such a luxurious vehicle in their small town.
After Bai Yiyi stepped out, Gu Kai walked to the backseat and retrieved her luggage.
Taking her luggage, she softly reminded him, “Drive safely. When you arrive in G City, send a ssage.”
“Okay.”
Gu Kai curved his lips faintly and, before getting back into the car, turned to her again, “Don’t turn your phone off. Tongtong misses you and may call.”
Bai Yiyi froze for a mont. When her eyes t Gu Kai’s deep, ink-black ones, her heartbeat skipped uncontrollably.
“I won’t turn it off.”
“Happy New Year!”
With that, Gu Kai bent down and got into the car.
Bai Yiyi watched the Maybach disappear from her view in a cloud of dust before she turned around to walk towards her house, pulling her luggage behind her.
After taking several steps, she unexpectedly paused to glance back—even though she knew his car was long out of sight, she couldn’t resist looking again.
“Yiyi, you’re back!”
From a nearby small supermarket, Bai Yuqin erged carrying a bag of vegetables. Spotting Bai Yiyi a few ters away, Bai Yuqin bead and quickly walked over.
“Mom, why did you buy so many vegetables?”
Bai Yiyi glanced at the groceries her mother was carrying, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
Ever since that incident, her relationship with her mother hadn’t been as close as before.
Bai Yuqin, pretending not to notice her daughter’s subtle detachnt, raised the bag cheerfully, “You’re coming ho for New Year, so I bought a bit more—your favorite dishes… cough, cough… pity Tongtong isn’t coming back.”
“Mom, let carry it.”
Though Bai Yiyi hadn’t yet reconciled her feelings enough to be as close to Bai Yuqin as before, she remained concerned for her mother.
Hearing her mother coughing, she quickly reached out to take the bag from her.
“You’re already carrying luggage. I can manage this much. The supermarket owner ntioned earlier—soone dropped you off. Was it Ah Kai who brought you back?”
