The late-night suburban villa is peaceful and elegant, like a pure maiden.
On the second floor, within the master bedroom, a warm and soft glow filled the room. On the soft bed, Wen Ran wore a serene sleeping face, her lips curved into a subtle arc.
Next to her, Mo Xiuchen’s eyes tenderly gazed at her fair and pure face.
The more he looked, the more his heart ached.
After a while, he slowly rose.
Mo Xiuchen got out of bed, took out a small, delicately-shaped bottle from the drawer, and poured two pills into his hand. He walked to the sofa, picked up the glass of water on the coffee table, and swallowed the pills.
His gaze shifted towards the sleeping woman on the bed, and he turned around to enter the study.
He lit a cigarette, took a heavy puff, and exhaled a plu of smoke. His handso face was obscured behind the curling smoke, the cigarette clamped between his slender fingers.
The image of Ranran’s rejection just now flashed before his eyes, making the look in his eyes seem even darker in an instant.
Tonight, after returning from the banquet, he had watched television with Wen Ran awhile before turning on the bathwater for her.
After their respective baths, he had helped Wen Ran dry her hair, and on an impulse, had kissed her.

Mo Xiuchen put out the remaining cigarette, took out his cellphone, and dialed a number.

The call was answered, and a deep voice ca through the phone, “Hello, General Mo!”
“Did Ah Mu tell you that Wu Tianyi is being escorted back to G City?”

“Yes!”
The person on the other side responded calmly.

There was a montary silence on the other side of the phone. After a few seconds, Lu Zhiyan’s voice rang out, “Understood, I won’t let that happen.”
Last ti, Zhou Mingfu died suddenly the night before his court hearing. They hadn’t been able to determine who was behind it.

“When did you say Wu Tianyi would be brought back?”
Gu Kai yawned on the other end of the phone, asked with a hint of fatigue.
“Tomorrow. Lu Zhiyan is personally escorting him back. I’ve just called him to give him so instructions.”
Mo Xiuchen sat down in the chair, his body leaning back against it. One hand rose up to rub at his forehead. Gu Kai’s voice, slightly excited, rang through the phone.
“That’s great. I told you before, I’ve finished developing what I ntioned. The trial use went well. When Wu Tianyi arrives tomorrow, we can use it on him. We’re bound to find out Fu Jingyi’s whereabouts.”
“So soon?”
Mo Xiuchen knew what he was talking about. It was sothing Gu Kai began researching after Xiao Wenqing was caught, a substance that could cause Wenqing to divulge the truth.
It was more effective than any lie detector.
“Just finished the trials.” Gu Kai’s voice carried a hint of pride and confidence, then he yawned again, tiredly saying, “I’m really exhausted. I’m going to sleep now. After Lu Zhiyan arrives tomorrow, let’s go together.”
Before waiting for Mo Xiuchen’s response, Gu Kai hung up.
Mo Xiuchen sat alone in the study for a long while before getting up and leaving. He closed the door to his study, went to stand beside the bed, and stared at Wen Ran, who was sleeping soundly on the bed, with tender eyes.
He climbed onto the bed and gently pulled her into his arms. Although she was in deep sleep, she naturally nuzzled closer to him. After finding a comfortable position, she buried her face into his chest and wrapped her arms around his waist, continuing to sleep peacefully.
Mo Xiuchen felt a warmth settle in his heart.
His slender fingers lightly brushed her porcelain-white cheek.

“Ranran, why can’t you be a little selfish?”
