“No!”
Wen Ran’s eyes widened in dread, staring straight ahead as she suddenly let out a harrowing cry.
The next second, she shoved Gu Kai away, stumbling towards the two nurses.
A hint of guilt flickered in Gu Kai’s eyes, his thin lips tightly pressed together, standing tall in the sa spot, his gaze deeply fixated on the scrambling Wen Ran.
“Mo Xiuchen.” Wen Ran lunged, pulling away the white cloth covering him. Just now, because of her piercing ‘no’, the nurses hesitated and hadn’t covered Mo Xiuchen’s face with the cloth.
Seeing Wen Ran rush over and tear away the white cloth, they exchanged a glance, then both turned to Gu Kai standing several steps away. Receiving a signal from him, they retreated.
Wen Ran’s tears fell one by one, like rainfall on Mo Xiuchen’s handso, pale face. She clutched him tightly, crying out in grief, “Mo Xiuchen, wake up, you can’t just leave.”
The man she was holding was still.

From behind, Gu Kai took a step forward, embracing Wen Ran from the back, as if he wanted to pull her away.
Struggling with all her might, Wen Ran kept her eyes fixed on the unmoving man lying there. The pain in her heart made it hard for her to breathe. Through her sobs, every word she said sounded heart-wrenching, “Mo Xiuchen, get up. Didn’t you promise to be with forever? Get up!”

From behind, Gu Kai held her, his voice heavy, seeming to provide so comfort.

Wen Ran shook her head in tears. Suddenly, she found the strength to break free from Gu Kai and fell upon Mo Xiuchen. She clutched him tightly with her hands, as her tears splashed on his face, his forehead, the corners of his mouth, his neck…
Her voice filled with despair, “Mo Xiuchen, I beg you, wake up, please. I’m regretful, I don’t want to leave you, even if I can’t bear children, even if I’m sick, even if I will forget you in the end, I don’t want to leave you anymore. I want to be with you, and I want you with too.”

She cautiously called out, “Mo Xiuchen!”
The man’s eyes were still closed, his thin lips tightly pressed, showing no emotion. That suffocating feeling in her heart returned. Just as she thought that she was just hearing things earlier, her hand was gently held by a larger one.
Mo Xiuchen’s thick eyelashes fluttered slightly, his profound black eyes slowly opened in her blurred vision. Parting his tightly pressed lips, his voice ca out low, yet domineering, “Ranran, you promised , you can’t back out.”
Upon hearing this, Wen Ran’s pupils dilated in shock.
Looking at the man who had just awakened, she felt a huge wave crashing against her, attacking every nerve in her body and then transforming into joy. She lunged at him, hugging him tightly, “As long as you’re okay, I promise you, I won’t back out.”
Mo Xiuchen’s lips curled into a mischievous smile, as if out of a successful plan. He lifted his hands and tightly embraced Wen Ran who was now reduced to tears.
However, his smugness was short-lived as Wen Ran suddenly pushed him away. Raising her hand, she roughly wiped away her tears. Her eyes fixated on him; her brain slowly began to process the situation again. She looked at him, then turned to look at Gu Kai, and then back at him, the man whose face had been bathed in her tears yet remained undeniably handso, “You were tricking just now, weren’t you?”
Mo Xiuchen imdiately blinked innocently, asking in confusion, “Ranran, what are you talking about?”
Wen Ran turned her questioning gaze towards Gu Kai.
Gu Kai hesitated, took a step forward and offered a handkerchief to Wen Ran, his voice softly flowing from his lips, “Ranran, you misunderstood. Mo Xiuchen was just unconscious due to the anesthesia after the surgery. I hadn’t had ti to explain before you thought he was…”
Even though Mo Xiuchen seed fine now, hearing the word ‘dead’, Wen Ran stiffened again. Mo Xiuchen imdiately feigned confusion, “Ranran, did you really think I was dead?”
Wen Ran frowned at Gu Kai, “What’s the deal with the white cloth?”

The nurses had disappeared at so point and Gu Kai had also left. Now, solely Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran remained in the endless silence.
Mo Xiuchen’s voice echoed faintly. His handso face lost its innocence, his eyes reflecting a hint of guilt, a touch of love, and a bit of desolation, “It has nothing to do with Ah Kai. Wen Ran bit her lip, her eyes quietly staring at him.
