Chapter 733: 732 find soone to replace her job
Mo Xiuchen didn’t show an ounce of sympathy for Cheng Jia’s hopping on one foot. He glanced at her casually, then turned his gaze away.
As they approached the dining table, Mo Xiuchen, being the gentleman that he is, pulled out a chair for Cheng Jia before taking a seat himself.
“Xiuchen, thank you.”
His simple gesture left Cheng Jia deeply moved and delighted. After expressing her gratefulness to him with a radiant smile, she finally took her seat.
Mo Xiuchen rely responded with a casual ‘hmm’ before picking up his chopsticks and starting his al.
Cheng Jia was baffled by the fact that he persistently clung to Chinese cuisines, despite residing in D Country known for its western-style food.
As far as she was aware, Xiao Wenqing had previously ntioned that Mo Xiuchen was not keen on rejecting Western cuisine.
But now, having lost his mory, he dislikes Western food. When she asked him why, he simply said that he didn’t like it.
Seeing the white congee, green vegetables, and small stead buns on the dining table, Cheng Jia couldn’t shake off a faint sense of unease.
If her mory served her right, Little Liu had once told her that Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen would usually have these for breakfast – Wen Ran wasn’t too fond of toast-like alternatives.
Even though Mo Xiuchen was elegantly eating in front of her, she couldn’t feel at ease.
She kept recalling the deep affection that existed between him and Wen Ran; his doting and loving behavior towards Wen Ran was enough to drive anyone crazy with jealousy.
“Why aren’t you eating?”
Mo Xiuchen felt Cheng Jia’s gaze and looked up at her.
His deep, tranquil eyes captured the innately complex emotions in hers, leaving him slightly bewildered.
Seeing him look at her, Cheng Jia quickly masked her unintentionally revealed jealousy and resentnt, replacing it with a gentle smile. “I just like watching you eat.”
Mo Xiuchen looked a little taken aback; his handso eyebrows knitted together slightly.
“Xiuchen, don’t get upset. I’ll eat right away.”
Cheng Jia thought he might be upset because she was watching him.
Despite feeling disheartened, she maintained a warm smile on her face.
Saying that, she imdiately picked up her chopsticks and placed so vegetables onto Mo Xiuchen’s plate.
Mo Xiuchen ignored her, his narrowed eyes fixated on the congee in front of him. He looked sowhat surprised.
“Xiuchen, what’s wrong?”
Seeing his expression, Cheng Jia’s brow furrowed with confusion and concern.
eting her worried gaze, Mo Xiuchen blandly stated, “I’m just thinking that your foot might not heal in ti. I’m considering sending soone from the head office over.”
“What?”
This wasn’t what Cheng Jia was worried about.
Hearing him suddenly bring up work, she was montarily stunned and blinked in confusion.
Once she managed to digest his words, she quickly responded, “Xiuchen, my foot won’t hinder my work at all. I can accompany you to your client etings today.”
Mo Xiuchen had already put their relationship on hold, making it clear that they were nothing more than friends.
If soone else were to replace her at work, she didn’t know how she could stay by his side.
“I just want you to rest properly. What are you afraid of?”
Mo Xiuchen amusingly observed Cheng Jia’s panic and fear, and it irked him slightly.
In reality, his earlier comnt was just a random suggestion. Cheng Jia’s comnt ‘I like watching you eat,’ had elicited an inexplicable emotion in him.
So unidentified emotions were stirred, as if sobody else had once said “Xiuchen, I like watching you eat.”
He didn’t know whether this was an illusion, but the feeling of being touched was highly clear.
He wanted to strengthen this feeling so as to help himself recall sothing.
However, Cheng Jia interrupted his thoughts; that’s why he casually suggested having soone replace her.
If it had been another man with such illusions, he would’ve assud that the object of his illusion was his faithful fiancée, who was always by his side.
But Mo Xiuchen was indeed an oddity.
He hadn’t associated his occasional emotional movents with Cheng Jia, apart from the inherent dissatisfaction.
On the contrary, he felt his attitude towards her should be indifferent.
Just like his newfound zeal for Chinese food after losing his mory.
Subconsciously, he felt that he used to have breakfast with soone else every day.
If the person in his subconscious was Cheng Jia, she would be very happy and moved, saying that even though he forgot the past, he didn’t forget the food she likes.
However, Cheng Jia didn’t, she even asked him why he didn’t like Western food at first.
Why was he so obsessed with Chinese food, what was his reply back then?
He said, “I don’t like Western food. I like Chinese food.”
There’s another peculiar phenonon about Cheng Jia.
Every morning, while having breakfast with him, she tends to stare at him blankly.
Unmindful about what she might be thinking about, he paid no heed to it, deeming her invisible.
Yet just now, when he casually looked up, he found traces of jealousy and resentnt in her gaze.
Although she quickly composed herself, he was certain; it wasn’t an illusion.
Mo Xiuchen didn’t eat the vegetables that Cheng Jia had placed in his plate.
Instead, he picked up so vegetables and gently chewed on them, remaining silent.
All the while, Cheng Jia was consud by worry, her beautiful face creased with concern. “Xiuchen, I can really work. Please don’t bring in soone else.”
“Hmm.”
Mo Xiuchen didn’t looked up but responded casually.
He began to wonder, was Cheng Jia really the woman he used to love deeply?
Why was he feeling relieved, seeing her upset and scared?
Either there’s sothing wrong with him, or there’s sothing wrong with Cheng Jia.
Having reached that conclusion in his mind, Mo Xiuchen maintained his composure outwardly.
Without any emotional changes, Cheng Jia wasn’t sure if his ‘Hmm’ was an agreent or sothing else.
Seeing him engrossed in his al, appearing not to want to be disturbed, she didn’t dare to ask again.
She could only speculate in her mind, her heart fluttered and sunk as their breakfast concluded. She felt no reassurance.
With the congee bowl empty, Mo Xiuchen elegantly wiped his mouth.
He then spoke at his own pace, “I don’t want you to hop around while eting clients with and have myself labeled as a boss who abuses his subordinates. You know more about the situation in our country. You can choose a person to take over your position temporarily. You can send them back once your foot is healed.”
“Xiuchen…”
“This is final. After you finish your breakfast, call my father to discuss. I have an appointnt with a client at ten.”
He left the dining room for his study without giving Cheng Jia a chance to respond.
Cheng Jia stared at the bowl of congee in front of her. Thinking about how she would not be accompanying him every day made her both sad and angry. Grinding her teeth in resentnt, she blad everything on Wen Ran.
