Chapter 759: 758 why did you drink alcohol?

Mo Xiuchen watched as the ssage was sent, the corner of his mouth curled up in a tender smile that even he himself didn’t notice.

He felt no restraint in showing his concern for the strange woman.

Though Secretary Wu hadn’t told him anything, he was sure that the woman who refused to acknowledge knowing him was the cause of his inner turmoil.

The additional words he had added were, “Send a ssage when you get ho.”

This ssage was different from the ones he had sent before.

Mo Xiuchen stood up from his seat at the restaurant and put his phone back in his pocket.

He did not expect an imdiate reply but he knew that she would reply once she got ho.

Despite everything, Wen Ran had ended up working late, Qin Mu wanted to keep her company but she refused him.

In the end, Wen Ran agreed to call him once she finished work so he could pick her up.

Though the distance between her apartnt and her office wasn’t great, it was still a significant walk.

Worried about her walking ho alone so late, Qin Mu sat in a coffee shop across the street, quietly looking at the bright skyscraper on the other side.

At nine o’clock sharp, Wen Ran called Qin Mu to let him know she was almost done.

After hanging up, Qin Mu paid the bill and was about to leave the coffee shop to go to the office across the street when his phone rang again. It was a call from An Lin.

A look of confusion crossed Qin Mu’s face as he pressed the answer button, speaking gently, “Hello, An Lin.”

“Ah Mu, could you please co over…”

Haochen, Wen Ran packed her docunts and turned off the computer.

She left the office alone and took the elevator downstairs. As she exited the company, a security guard approached, “Miss Wen, President Qin asked to escort you ho.”

Wen Ran paused, looking at the respectful face of the security guard, and shook her head with a smile, “No need, I can go ho by myself.”

Before the security guard could say more, Wen Ran had already stepped out of the company’s gates.

She put on her Bluetooth headphones and started her music, listening as she walked alone.

The nights in sumr were anything but desolate.

On the contrary, many people were out for strolls. So were wives and husbands with their children, others were older couples.

Wen Ran walked behind a family of three, watching as the little girl held her father’s hand in one of hers and her mother’s in the other.

Every few steps, the girl would retract her legs, prompting her parents to hoist her into the air. The sound of her bubbly laughter found its way into Wen Ran’s ears, eliciting thoughts of Mo Xiuchen in her mind.

Earlier, after her call with Qin Mu, Mo Xiuchen’s ssage had arrived as she was packing her things. She replied that she was done with work and was about to head ho.

After sending the ssage, she felt a pang of regret.

Compared to her previously cautious ssages, this one carried the intent of breaking so sort of barrier and a naive longing for his attention.

She hoped that Mo Xiuchen would show her so affectionate concern.

He did not disappoint, within a minute his reply was waiting for her.

He reminded her to be careful on her way ho and to ssage him when she got ho.

Upon seeing his ssage, Wen Ran’s eyes instantly welled up.

In that mont, she felt an overwhelming urge to cry.

She pursed her lips tightly, fighting back the tears in her eyes and mustering a weak smile.

Mo Xiuchen cares for you, Wen Ran, you should be happy about this.

You mustn’t cry or feel sad, he still doesn’t rember you but when he does, he will…

Suddenly, she couldn’t bear to think any further.

Even if Mo Xiuchen rembered her, what could it an? She didn’t know. Her heart was full of confusion, a small glimr of hope intermingled with deep-seated fear.

Wen Ran was not as strong as she made herself out to be.

Things she thought she could handle, the pain she thought she could endure, she couldn’t.

She returned ho alone, and upon turning on the lights, she threw herself onto the soft sofa.

Not long ago, she and Mo Xiuchen sat together on this sofa, with her nestled against him, basking in his warmth and affection.

She reached out to touch the empty seat next to her, cold and lacking the warmth that she so desired.

She took out her phone and reread the ssage he had sent earlier before slowly typing, “I’m ho.”

As she typed the word ‘ho’, a wave of warmth washed over her. She was ho, when would he return ho?

Staring at the ssage, she couldn’t bring herself to hit send.

Her heart was a whirlwind of emotions, too complex to express. After a while, she finally pressed the send button.

Whispering to herself: Mo Xiuchen, I miss you so much.

Miss you, miss you so much…

The reply ca quickly, just like before, less than a minute after she sent her ssage, Mo Xiuchen replied, “Rest early.”

Wen Ran couldn’t handle the sudden warmth and care.

Upon seeing his ssage, tears welled up in her eyes once again, rolling down her cheeks uncontrollably.

Tears splashed onto her phone screen and she tightened her lips to suppress a sob. The words on the screen grew blurry, yet, they imprinted vividly onto her heart.

Wen Ran dared not reply, for fear that she might lose control if they continued their conversation.

She sat on the couch, lost in thought.

The sweet mories replayed in her head. When she thought of happy tis, a gentle smile quietly ford on her lips, and her heart filled with sweetness.

When she thought of the sad monts, the sweetness quickly gave way to sorrow, her eyes turning red in an instant.

Regardless of whether she was feeling sweetness or sadness, she was the only one enveloped by these emotions, while Mo Xiuchen, on the other side of the Pacific, knew nothing of them.

Wen Ran didn’t know how long she sat there in a daze until the doorbell rang, breaking her reverie. She got up to answer the door.

Standing outside was the tall figure of Qin Mu, silhouetted against the light.

His eyes scanned her as his gaze stopped at her reddened eyes. He asked with concern, “What’s wrong, Ranran?”

Wen Ran’s eyes flickered as she forced a smile, “Nothing’s wrong, you’re back so soon? Did you sign the contract?”

“Yes, it’s signed.”

Qin Mu’s reply was brief, his eyes firmly fixed on her, as if trying to see through her. Wen Ran frowned and stepped back, “Have you been drinking?”

Her mind was a bit slow, she hadn’t noticed that he had been drinking straight away.

Only after he started speaking, did she sll the alcohol on him. Realizing that his body wasn’t fully recovered yet, she couldn’t help but scold, “Why did An Lin let you drink?”

Qin Mu managed a small smile and lightly said, “It’s OK. I just had a little bit. An Lin was entertaining the governnt departnt tonight. One of them was trying to flirt with her, so I drank a few glasses for her.”

As he spoke, he gently pressed his temples. Seeing this, Wen Ran quickly asked, “Do you have a headache?”

“A little, but it’s not serious. I just ca to make sure you got ho safe. I should go upstairs now.”

After saying this, Qin Mu gave her another small smile.
