"Are you looking for ?"

Nathan sat on the sofa, like a judge.

"That’s right. What are you trying to do by imprisoning here?" Janice replied.

She questioned Nathan.

Nathan raised his eyebrows.

"I said I would make up for what I didn’t do."

Janice didn’t quite understand what he ant.

Nathan ordered, "Leave Chris."

Janice had expected this to happen.

"I told you, it’s impossible."

Nathan snorted coldly. "This is not up to you to decide."

The warning was clear.

"You. You are violating my freedom! That is against the law!" Janice fud.

Nathan sneered, "This is the Batemans’ ancestral house. You call yourself the daughter-in-law of the Batemans. How is it illegal if you stay here?"

"You..."

"Co to when you think it through."

Nathan didn’t wait for Janice to finish. He stood up and walked towards the door.

Janice tried to chase after him but she was stopped by the bodyguards at the door.

She could only watch as Nathan left, feeling extrely indignant.

"I will not agree to it. Even if you are to imprison here for the rest of my life, I will still not agree to it!"

Nathan didn’t reply to Janice. He continued walking ahead.

Sophie was sitting in the car outside the villa, looking anxiously at the entrance of the villa. Nathan went inside the villa for quite so ti, yet no one knew what happened inside.

Right at that mont, Nathan walked out of the villa.

Sophie hurriedly opened the door and hopped off the car. "Dad, how did it go? Did she agree?"

Nathan looked at Sophie’s anxious expression and shook his head.

Sophie knew that this would happen. Sophie wouldn’t treat her as a competitor if Janice were to give up so easily.

Janice was too stubborn.

"Looks like I would have to think of another way." She thought.

"Why don’t you let go in and persuade her?"

Sophie asked.

Nathan nodded in agreent since Sophie had volunteered to persuade Janice.

Not long after Nathan left the villa, the bodyguards ca in to send Janice so food.

"I’m not eating. Take it away. I’ll starve to death here if you don’t let out."

"It doesn’t matter if you would eat or not."

The bodyguard placed the food on the table and turned to leave.

Janice sat on the couch and stared at the bodyguard angrily.

"Are they really going to lock up for the rest of my life?"

"Why aren’t you eating?"

A voice could be heard.

Janice raised her head and saw Sophie’s face with a fake smile. She frowned. "What are you doing here?"

Sophie walked over and glanced at the food on the coffee table.

"Janice, oh Janice. Why are you still so stubborn now?"

She sneered.

"If you are here to persuade to leave Christopher, you’d better give up this idea as soon as possible. I won’t change my mind."

Janice turned her head to the side.

Sophie stared at her stubborn behavior and curled her lips into a sneer. "Do you really know Chris?"

"What do you an?" Janice glanced at her.

Sophie chuckled, "Nothing much, I just wanted to tell you, don’t be too naive. Chris isn’t as good as you think."

She looked at Janice aningfully.

Janice thought that Sophie’s words were amusing. How could she not understand

Chris? Sophie didn’t need to spout nonsense here.

She replied.

"He is my husband. You don’t have the right to judge him."

Sophie didn’t mind her as she had probably guessed Janice’s reply. She took out a cigarette from her bag and lit it. She took a puff and her red lips curled into a sneer. Then she moved closer to Janice.

"Do you know that he slept with three years ago?"

...

Her voice sounded like muffled thunder, causing Janice to jump to her feet and looked in the direction of the sound and asked, "What did you say?"

When Sophie saw her reaction, a wisp of ridicule flashed through her eyes. She responded sneeringly, "You didn’t hear it clearly? Then I’ll repeat it again. He slept with three years ago. Not only that, but he also refused to admit it after that."

Janice was stunned. "Impossible! You’re lying! He’s not that sort of a person!" She said in disbelief.

"If you don’t believe , sure, you can find go ask soone. In any case, everyone in the Bateman’s knows about this." Sophie laughed mockingly.

Janice shook her head. "I won’t believe anyone’s words unless he tells it to personally."

"If that’s the case, you can take your ti to wait. After all, he might or might co around. What if he ends up spending the rest of his life there?" Sophie said.

"Nonsense. He will wake up." Janice insisted.

"Up to you." Sophie sneered and with that, she turned around and walked towards the door.

Janice stumbled and fell onto the sofa, mumbling to herself, "That’s impossible. Christopher is not that kind of person."

Sophie had to be lying to her. Yes, that had to be it. She continued to console herself by reciting this in her heart.

"How was it? Did she agree?" As soon as Sophie got into the car, Nathan asked.

"She will agree." Sophie frowned with a curled lip. No matter how much she was struggling now. Sophie was confident. The car drove out slowly.

In the villa, Janice had been sitting in a daze ever since Sophie left. When the sun set, the room beca dark as there were not many lights around.

"He slept with ." "He didn’t admit it after!" "He slept with ." "He didn’t admit it after!" She sat there alone, replaying in her mind the sentences that Sophie had said. These words kept running through her mind, making her feel like her head was going to explode. No, she did not believe that Christopher would do such a thing. She hugged herself, wishing for those words to not affect her. However, there was no way to stop it.

No, she had to go to the hospital. Thinking of this, she stood up from the sofa. Perhaps she had stood up too abruptly because she suddenly felt dizzy and fell back on the sofa. A whole day had passed since she last ate and she felt weak as a result. Thinking of this, she rushed to the door with all her strength and shouted to the people outside, "Hey, is anyone there? I want to eat. I want to eat."

However, no one paid any attention to her.

"No, I can’t stay here. I must go out and see Christopher." She thought to herself. She switched on all the lights in the room and began to rummage through the room, but found nothing. She could not believe it. How could there be nothing to eat?

Just at that mont, "Janice!" A weak voice ca from sowhere. Janice imdiately looked around but could not find the source of the voice.

"I’m here. Look up." Janice looked up when she heard this and discovered that there was a skylight there. Indeed, there was a vague silhouette of a person there.

"Janice, it’s , Lucy." The person spoke.

"Lucy?" Janice picked up a stool to step on. It was only then that she saw clearly that it really was Lucy outside.

"Why are you here?" She asked in astonishnt.

"I followed the car here. It took a lot of effort to climb up. Janice, I’ve checked it out. This window can be opened from the inside, but it’s a little high. You can give it a try." Lucy said.

...

"Okay." Janice did not say anything further. She found a wooden ladder, brought it over to a sturdy spot and climbed up. Sure enough, the skylight could be opened from the inside. She opened the window and climbed out with Lucy’s help. When she climbed out, she saw that there was a platform connecting the windowsill to that of another household. She figured Lucy must have reached her by using the platform.

"Let’s go before anyone finds us." Lucy said. Janice nodded and followed Lucy as she climbed onto the windowsill of the neighbors. Just like that, they slowly made their way to the ground. When the two landed on the ground, they felt relieved.

"C’mon. I borrowed a car and it’s parked at the entrance of the village. Let’s go there now." Lucy said.

"Okay." Janice responded.

The two of them followed the dark path behind the houses towards the entrance of the village. However, before they could get to the entrance, they were stopped by two n in black. They had no choice but to run back. Unfortunately, they were also surrounded from behind.

"Mr. Bateman had already inford us to set up an ambush at the village entrance and sure enough, you showed up." One of the n said.

"What are you trying to do?" Janice and Lucy were on their guard against this pincer attack.

"Nothing. Take them back with us." As soon as the order was given, the two n caught hold of the won.

"Let go of us! What impudence!" The won scread. However, their struggles were futile. They were taken back together.

Back in the villa, the two of them were locked up and the door was locked from the outside again.

Janice looked at Lucy with guilt written all over her face. "I’m sorry Lucy, for getting you mixed up in all this."

"What are you talking about? I did it voluntarily. Who are they?" Lucy asked.

Lucy glanced at the environnt inside the room. It did not look like she had been kidnapped. She was a little curious.

Janice paused before saying, "They were sent by the Batemans."

"The Batemans? Your husband’s family?" Lucy was puzzled.

Janice nodded. She looked at Lucy and said in sha, "Actually, I have never told you that my husband is Christopher Bateman."

"Christopher Bateman! You an the high-tech talent who has just returned from abroad?" Lucy was surprised.

Janice nodded. "Yes, that’s him."

Lucy was shocked!

Letting out a sigh, Janice continued, "At the beginning, I had no idea of his identity. But when I found out about it, I got into a huge fight with him and almost divorced him because of it."

There was a trace of self-mockery in Janice’s voice as she said this.

Lucy knew that she did not like rich boys. It could be seen from her work.

"Then, what happened?" asked Lucy.

Lucy’s gaze, however, was unfocused. It drifted off into the distance. "It’s him. He’s the one who wouldn’t let go."

She rembered the ti when she was making trouble for no reason, yet he was tolerant and persistent. Just thinking about it made her feel extrely lucky.

"Lucy, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have hidden it from you," she apologized.

Lucy smiled. "It’s okay. If it were , I might have done the sa. It’s okay."

"Thank you," Janice said sincerely.

"Why did they lock you up here?" Lucy asked again.

Janice lowered her gaze. "His father has never agreed to us being together."

Janice explained Nathan’s threat to Lucy. Hearing this, the other woman was extrely angry.

"They’ve gone too far. How can they do that? You’re his legal wife after all!"
