Christopher was stunned. He didn’t expect his father to know about his relationship with Janice.
However, he was not surprised when he thought of Nathan’s controlling nature. So he said, "Since you are already aware, there’s no need to ask."
"Whether I know or not is one thing, but to think you went to her father’s birthday party and caused a scene. What can you possibly gain from getting involved with such a family?"
Nathan’s words were full of disdain.
"That’s my business," Christopher said coldly.
"Marriage is your own business? Do you still consider as your father?"
There was a hint of coldness in his words. It was obvious that he was angry.
Christopher was unmoved, he even found it funny. "Did you forget sothing? I was raised by my mother. Even if I wanted to inform my family, my mother is the only one worth informing.
"Don’t think that I can’t control you after you followed your mother around for a few years in Europe. Even if you go to the ends of the world, I am still your father!"
Seeing that Christopher didn’t reply, Nathan changed the topic. "Denise is back. Let’s find a ti to have a al together."
"There’s no need for that."
Christopher refused straightaway.
Nathan said, "Your taste is getting worse. That little reporter is not remotely as good as Denise."
"Really? I rember that you didn’t like her in the past." Christopher snorted.
Nathan paused. "Back then, I really didn’t like her. However, compared to the one now, she’s much better."
Christopher found it funny. "You just say whatever you want. It’s getting late. I’m leaving."
He turned around and was about to leave.
"You may leave after dinner." Nathan’s voice ca from behind.
"There’s no need. I have sothing else to do."
Christopher didn’t stop and went straight out.
In the living room, Uncle Charlie was preparing dinner. When he saw Christopher
walking out, he quickly went up and said, "Sir, it’s almost ti for dinner."
"I’m not staying, I have sothing else to do."
Christopher walked to the door, he suddenly thought of sothing and asked, "Uncle Charlie, has Joey called you recently?"
Uncle Charlie paused and then said, "Thank you for your concern, Joey hasn’t called back for a while, but I know he’s busy."
Hearing Uncle Charlie’s words, Christopher didn’t probe and turned to leave.
Uncle Charlie shook his head as he watched him leave. He sighed helplessly.
Christopher left. On the way, he called Janice.
In the TV station, Janice was trying her best to finish her work. She had a pile of work from her absence, so she had to complete them.
When the phone rang, she was writing an article. Without looking, she picked up the call.
"Are you ho yet?"
Hearing Christopher’s voice, she was stunned for a mont. Only then did she rember that she had forgotten to inform him about working late tonight.
She said, "Are you off work? I have to work late tonight."
Christopher frowned. "You’re just recovered, and you’re working overti?"
"I’m okay. It’s just a minor injury. By the way, this afternoon, the families of the deceased workers called and said that they were very satisfied with the result and wanted to send a banner."
Janice said with a bitter smile.
Christopher could tell from her voice that she had put this matter aside. This was what he wanted.
He said, "Congratulations."
...
Janice said huffily, "It’s your credit. I don’t want to claim it as my own."
Christopher smiled and reminded her.
"Don’t be too late. Call when you’re done. I’ll pick you up."
Before Janice could say that there was no need, Christopher hung up the phone.
She frowned and decided to finish her work first.
After Christopher hung up, he checked the ti. It was not even 7pm. Janice was not at ho, and it was too early for him to go back, so he called Jas.
"Co out and have a drink with ."
Twenty minutes later, the two of them t at Daniel’s Club.
Jas seed to be in a bad mood. As soon as he sat down, he complained non-stop.
Christopher didn’t say anything and only listened as Jas complained about his family.
He knew that Jas was a hot-tempered and straightforward person.
Jas stopped ranting when he realized Christopher looked somber. He asked, "What’s wrong with you? Why do you look worried?"
Christopher, however, just picked up a glass of wine and toasted him. "Nothing."
He didn’t want to say, so Jas didn’t probe. He rembered sothing and asked, "By the way, did Denise go to you for sponsorship?"
Christopher nodded.
"No way, did you agree?"
Jas was surprised.
Christopher frowned. "She ntioned it, but I didn’t agree."
"That’s good." Jas breathed a sigh of relief. "We’re brothers. You must not agree. Even if Denise asks, you can’t turn against ."
Christopher glanced at him speechlessly. "Is this your defense strategy? There are so many companies out there."
"I don’t care. I, Jas Taylor, have put out word, that whoever dares to invest in that bastard will be openly against the Taylors!" Jas said resentfully.
However, Christopher didn’t respond and only drank his wine.
"By the way, there is one more thing that I have to remind you of. You have to be on your guard against your father-in-law."
Jas was afraid Christopher would misunderstand, so he hurriedly explained.
"I don’t an to slander the Gladwells. I make peace with your wife that day, but I really can’t stand your father-in- law and his family. He’s telling others that you’re his son-in-law and using your na to earn money."
Christopher didn’t say anything. He knew what Jas referred to. Recently, he had also received a lot of calls seeking confirmation.
However, he neither admitted nor denied it.
All businessn were shrewd. Seeing that he neither admitted nor denied it, no one paid attention to it. At most, they would just leave so leeway for Malcolm.
The phone suddenly rang and Christopher picked it up.
"Christopher, you don’t have to pick up. I can make my own way back ho."
Janice said in the phone. Christopher looked at the ti and said, "Wait for . I’ll be there right away."
After that, without waiting for Janice’s consent, he took his car key and said goodbye to Jas. "I have to go now."
Jas was halfway through his glass of wine. Watching him leave, he felt a little depressed.
What’s wrong with Christopher? He was the one who asked him out.
At the entrance of the TV station, Janice listened to the disconnected tone, feeling sowhat helpless.
She didn’t want to trouble Christopher to make a trip this late, but she didn’t expect him to hang up the phone.
It seed that she could only wait here.
"Janice? Were you also working late?"
...
Janice heard a voice behind her.
She paused and turned around. Seeing that it was Benjamin, she nodded.
Benjamin glanced at the ti and said, "It’s so late. I’ll take you ho."
Janice shook her head. "No need. You can leave first."
Benjamin stared at her with a frown.
"Let’s go. It’s on my way."
"There’s really no need. My husband is on his way here." Janice had no choice but to tell the truth.
Benjamin’s face showed a flash of shock, and then he said, "Then I’ll wait with you. I’m worried about you being here alone."
Janice was speechless. Why would she be alone? There were security guards at the door.
She said, "There’s really no need, Director Taylor. This is a TV station, and there are security guards around."
Seeing that he still had no intention of leaving, Janice felt a little upset.
If Christopher arrived and he saw, she would have to explain.
Thinking of this, she said, "I think I left sothing in the office. I’ll go back and get it."
As she spoke, she turned around and walked back in. Unexpectedly, Benjamin followed her.
Janice was frustrated, so she stopped. "Oh, it’s in my bag."
As she spoke, she walked towards the door again.
Benjamin seed to finally realize what she was doing. He felt injured. "Janice, you don’t have to hide from . I’m not a monster."
Janice looked embarrassed. She thought to herself, "Since you know what I’m thinking, why don’t you stop?"
Seeing that she did not deny it, a trace of sadness flashed across Benjamin’s face. "Since you don’t want to see , I’ll leave first."
He turned around and left, cutting a lonely figure as he walked away.
Janice couldn’t help but frown. Who said after breaking up, exes can still be friends?
Anyway, she felt it was impossible.
Soon, Christopher’s car arrived.
Janice quickly collected her thoughts and walked over.
Christopher had already gotten out of the car. "Have you eaten yet?"
Janice said, "I ate sothing light earlier, but I’m a little hungry now. Did you...
drink?"
She slled alcohol, although it was faint.
Christopher nodded. "I drank two glasses."
Janice said, "Well, let drive. It will be terrible if you got stopped by the traffic police."
Christopher only reached out to rub her hair and said, "Compared to you driving with fatigue and injury, it’s better for to drive."
Janice thought about it and agreed. Although her hand was fine, it still hurt when she held the steering wheel.
She said, "Then drive slower. We’re not in a hurry."
On the way, Christopher saw a snack shop. Thinking that Janice hadn’t eaten, he asked, "How about going to this place?"
Hearing no answer, he turned around and found that she had fallen asleep with her head tilted.
He frowned. Just how tired was she?
He parked the car on the side of the road, took out a cushion and a blanket from the trunk, and put them on her. He waited till she settled in comfortably then he drove the car away.
When they arrived at the villa, Christopher didn’t wake her up, so he carefully picked her up and carried her to the bedroom. He gently put her on the bed and covered her with the blanket. Then he stared at her peaceful sleeping face and sighed slightly.
Janice slept soundly, and the next day, she was woken up by hunger.
She got up from the bed but there was no one around. Christopher was already gone.
After washing up, Janice went down with sleepy eyes. When she saw Christopher making breakfast in the kitchen, she walked over.
