Fiona Sutton’s expression instantly changed, making the driver jump.
Oh fuck! This passenger I’ve picked up today seems like she could explode at any mont!
"Nia Mitchell, did your man brainwash you or sothing? If you don’t welco , then just say so!"
With that said, Fiona Sutton was about to hang up when she was stunned by what Nia Mitchell said next.
"I didn’t marry Hendry Hampton..."
She didn’t want Maxwell Peary to overhear the rest of their conversation, so she covered the mouthpiece of her phone and stepped away.
Maxwell Peary furrowed his brow, recalling the information he had previously investigated. It seed the caller was either Fiona Sutton or Charles Northwood. These two were incredibly close friends with Nia Mitchell since high school. After being admitted to the sa university, their bond had grown even stronger.
It seems they’re back.
Looks like things are getting more interesting.
But... Nia Mitchell, why are you hiding from when you’re on the phone with them?
Whenever Maxwell Peary recalled the way Nia Mitchell had looked as she stepped away, his expression darkened. Frustrated, he pulled open a drawer, took out a cigarette, and was about to light it when he rembered her words and the look in her eyes.
Damn it! After turning my world upside down, what right does that Rabina Mitchell have to just run off so cheerfully?
anwhile, Nia Mitchell, having stepped away to ensure privacy, returned to her seat and listened to Fiona Sutton’s shouts from the other end of the line.
"Explain yourself! What the hell do you an?"
What did she an, ’I didn’t marry Hendry Hampton’? She’d die before she believed it! What the hell was going on?
"It’s simple," Nia Mitchell said, her voice surprisingly calm. "He set up before the engagent. Not only did I end up in the Police Station, but he also got engaged to another woman."
Nia Mitchell spoke casually, but that day had been the most humiliating of her life.
"What? That Hendry Hampton is such an asshole!!!"
Fiona Sutton yelled, forcefully kicking the back of the seat in front of her, making the driver flinch and shiver. She knew Hendry Hampton was no good, but she never imagined he could be such utter scum.
"Nia Mitchell, tell , where are you now?" Fiona Sutton asked urgently. She rembered clearly that naive Nia Mitchell had spent all her money on renovations, given up her own place, and moved all her belongings to Royal View Villa.
Now that he’d discarded her, and with the Hampton family being so influential, Nia Mitchell must have suffered terribly.
Everyone in the Secretary Departnt pricked up their ears. This was sensational! It seed they had stumbled upon so huge gossip.
Nia Mitchell lowered her voice. "You all kept urging to think it through, warning about how terrible Hendry Hampton was, but I didn’t listen."
Her voice was low, each word laced with self-deprecation, and every sentence made one’s heart ache.
"Fiona, I shouldn’t have been so stubborn. Look at now; reality has given a harsh slap in the face."
Fiona Sutton choked up. Back then, she and Charles Northwood had tried desperately to stop the engagent, convinced Hendry Hampton wasn’t soone Nia Mitchell could rely on. But Nia Mitchell had always seen him as a hero, admiring him deeply, all because of that one ti he had carried her to the Hospital when she had a stomach ache. She had been overwheld with gratitude.
But that was a separate issue. Nia Mitchell had been blinded by infatuation, so srized by Hendry Hampton’s sweet words that she’d lost all sense of direction.
But the Nia Mitchell before her now... she truly made Fiona’s heart ache with pity.
"Silly Nia, I shouldn’t have gone to the USA. You’ve been here all alone... you must have felt so helpless, haven’t you?"
