Nia Mitchell, holding a pink and a blue toothbrush, ran excitedly towards him.
"Of course! Aren’t they great? I thought of you with everything I bought, Uncle."
Maxwell Peary’s lip twitched as he looked at these things. "As long as you’re happy."
Nia stuck out her tongue playfully and happily tossed the toothbrushes into the shopping cart.
"Uncle, it looks like you haven’t bought anything," she said, looking at the shopping cart. Everything in it was sothing she had picked up along the way; Maxwell hadn’t bought a single item. Wasn’t it his idea to co to the Supermarket to buy so daily necessities?
"AHEM! Follow ." Maxwell turned, pushing the shopping cart forward. Nia trotted to keep up, her face beaming.
Uncle Peary doesn’t seem angry anymore! I dodged a bullet, OH YEAH!
After winding through the aisles for two minutes, Maxwell stopped in front of a row of shelves. Nia stopped too, smiling at him.
Then... Wait, what’s going on? Why has Uncle Peary just stopped there?
"Uncle Peary, what’s wrong?" Nia asked, puzzled. Isn’t he going to buy sothing? Does he think things will just fly into the cart if he stands there?
"This item might seem like it’s for ," Maxwell said, "but you’re the one who’ll really be using it. So, you choose."
Nia froze, completely baffled. She took a few steps closer to look at the items on the shelf. Durex... Jissbon... Okamoto... Sirius...
AH!!!!! Nia clapped her hands over her eyes. Condoms! Uncle Peary was actually asking her to choose *these*!
Dai... Daily necessities? So *this* is what he ant!
"I won’t choose! I won’t choose!" Nia blurted out before running far away, completely mortified. So embarrassing, so embarrassing! Thank goodness no one else is around, no one saw!
AH AH AH AH, so *those* were the things Maxwell wanted to buy!
Nia still couldn’t process it. She patted her burning cheeks, her heart pounding relentlessly.
Seeing her shrinking down, trying to make herself invisible, Maxwell shook his head with a helpless sigh.
"Let’s go." Maxwell walked over to Nia. Seeing her standing there with her head down, face hidden, muttering to herself, he spoke up.
"Oh," Nia mumbled, her head still down, but her eyes darted towards the shopping cart.
GASP! So many!
"Uncle, why did you buy so many? Can we even use them all?" Nia huffed, finally looking up. She reached into the cart and rummaged around, burying the mortifying items under a pile of snacks.
Seeing her red-faced, futile attempt to hide them, Maxwell reached out and pinched her crimson cheek.
"Are you questioning your husband’s virility?" Maxwell looked at her with a dangerous glint in his eyes. Tonight, I’ll make sure she can’t get out of bed.
Nia shook her head frantically. "No! I swear!" She raised three small fingers like a tentative paw, not daring to provoke this big bad wolf. She pursed her lips—ouch, they still throbbed—and whimpered softly.
"No one asked you to swear." Maxwell expressionlessly pushed the cart toward the checkout. He had it figured out now: Rabina Mitchell was carefree and a bit daft, fond of her petty cleverness, yet fancied herself a cunning fox.
Nia hurried to catch up, pouting. He seems to be angry again...
She looked up to the ceiling with a dramatic sigh. Heavens, what kind of man did I marry? How many tis a day does he get angry?
"You just bought too many, and you won’t admit it!" Nia grumbled. Facts are facts; it’s no use trying to hide it.
Maxwell reached out, pulled her into his arms, and affectionately tilted her chin up.
"You’ve never used these before, so you wouldn’t know which type is good. You’ll only find out which is best after trying each one, right?"
Nia bristled. Is *this* the brilliant solution his oh-so-clever mind ca up with?
