As always, Maxwell Peary’s face was devoid of expression. His black suit and impeccably combed hair lent him an air of exceptional maturity. This appearance, typical of a successful businessman, inspired a sense of security.
The private booth was so quiet not a sound could be heard. Sitting across from Maxwell Peary was none other than Nia Mitchell’s best male friend, Charles Northwood.
Charles Northwood was the first to break the dead silence. His gentle voice, paired with his white suit, made him appear far more cultured than Maxwell Peary. "I didn’t expect to have the honor of having lunch with Young Master Peary."
Maxwell Peary regarded Charles Northwood for a long mont. "I hadn’t realized the Northwood Family was hiding such a talent."
A hint of a smile, yet not quite a smile, touched Maxwell Peary’s lips. His somber deanor was intimidating, yet the usually gentle Charles Northwood didn’t flinch, seemingly accustod to such intense gazes and powerful auras.
"I am truly honored today," Charles Northwood said, reaching for the red wine set to one side and leisurely pouring himself a glass. "The renowned Young Master Peary actually invited to lunch; that alone is overwhelming. I never expected to receive your praise as well. However, Young Master Peary, now that you’ve married my best friend, do you intend to keep her hidden away indefinitely?"
Last night, while he was pleasantly chatting with Nia Mitchell, he had suddenly received a few bewildering ssages. The gist was: "I am Maxwell Peary, Nia Mitchell’s husband. et at Madgar Pavilion tomorrow at noon." Honestly, upon seeing that ssage, he had been completely stunned. Ultimately, he had employed certain thods and, through investigation, discovered that Nia Mitchell had indeed married Maxwell Peary.
"Oh? I’m keeping her hidden, and you’re displeased?" Maxwell Peary raised an eyebrow, his dark, ink-like eyes flashing with a peculiar light as he stared directly into Charles Northwood’s.
He wanted to gauge Charles’s feelings for Nia Mitchell through his eyes.
Maxwell Peary, a veteran of the business world for many years, was more than capable of handling Charles Northwood. Yet, all he perceived in the younger man’s gaze was utter sincerity.
Could it be that this Charles Northwood truly harbored no designs on his Rabina Mitchell?
"Of course. She’s my best friend," Charles Northwood stated firmly. "While the Northwood Family may not rival the Peary Clan, and I, Charles Northwood, may not be your equal, Maxwell Peary, if you dare mistreat Nia, I will never forgive you."
He didn’t know what history lay between Nia Mitchell and Maxwell Peary, so he could only hope for Nia’s happiness.
"Young Master Northwood, you jest," Maxwell Peary replied. "How could the distinguished Northwood Family possibly be inferior to the Peary Clan?"
