Sophia Moore’s face flushed red with anger. She’d never expected this kind of reaction when she ca to tattle to Maxwell Peary.
She was even starting to wonder if Nia Mitchell’s backing was truly as simple as just Alan Morgan. It was a classic case of ’once the hares are killed, the hounds are cooked’; Alan Morgan had already left MC Group, so there shouldn’t be anyone left to look after Nia Mitchell.
"So, have you decided whether you want to change your boss or not?"
Maxwell Peary picked up the glass of plain water from his desk and took a sip. His gaze drifted for a mont as he swallowed.
He... really did seem to be starting to quit coffee.
"Mr. Peary, you must be joking. I rely ca to report an employee’s behavior, not to resign."
A terribly strained smile hung on Sophia Moore’s face. After her awkward words, every second of silence in the office felt like a piercing pain to her.
"If Mr. Peary has no other instructions, I’ll get back to work."
With that, Sophia Moore prepared to leave.
Maxwell Peary didn’t say anything more. After Sophia Moore left, his expression subtly changed.
What exactly happened? He figured he would have to wait until evening to ask Nia Mitchell directly, assuming he even rembered.
Sophia Moore walked out of Maxwell Peary’s office, defeated. The instant she stepped out, however, she swiftly wiped the dejection from her face.
She remained as haughty as a rooster, an impeccable smile plastered on her face.
"What are you all looking at?"
Sophia Moore shot a disdainful look at the secretaries. Their faces, alight with gossipy curiosity, irritated her.
"Get back to work! MC Group doesn’t pay idlers."
Sophia Moore rolled her eyes at those watching her, then turned her gaze to Nia Mitchell.
"Mr. Peary said he’ll let you off this ti. If you ss up again, you can just go ho and fend for yourself."
Since no one else knew what the CEO had actually said to her, Sophia Moore smirked, speaking to Nia Mitchell with haughty arrogance.
As she finished speaking, she heard footsteps approaching from behind.
Sophia Moore frowned, turned around, and saw the CEO standing right behind her.
"GASP!"
Startled, Sophia Moore tried to step aside to clear the path for Maxwell Peary. However, unsteady on her fifteen-centiter high heels, she stumbled and crashed into Diana Hill.
"AH!"
Sophia Moore went sprawling, her hair disheveled. She had barely scrambled to her feet when she saw Maxwell Peary frowning at her.
"A Head Secretary should carry herself like one."
How did soone so embarrassing get hired? What on earth was Alan Morgan thinking when he recruited her? He must have been blind.
anwhile, in a third-tier city, Alan Morgan sneezed. Strange, he thought, rubbing his tingling nose. Is soone badmouthing ?
Alan Morgan frowned at the vast expanse of farmhouses before him.
"Are you saying Shirley Grant lives in a dump like this?" Alan Morgan turned and asked the man standing next to him, disbelief written all over his face.
"Yes. Through House Transactions, we found out Miss Grant lives in this area."
Alan Morgan’s frown deepened. Can people really live in a dump like this?
After navigating a few twists and turns, Alan Morgan finally arrived at the small house where Shirley Grant had been temporarily staying.
"Miss Grant moved out last night."
The landlord ca over, holding his little grandson. Seeing this man, impeccably dressed in a suit, he was surprised. He hadn’t expected that Miss Grant, who could barely even afford her rent, would know such a person.
"Speaking of Miss Grant, she’s truly pitiful. With such a little son, and no money on her, she couldn’t even bear to buy herself a at bun for breakfast."
