Evelyn Peary was all set to righteously denounce Maxwell Peary. She was always the one he lectured, and now, finally, she had a chance to counterattack.
However, Evelyn Peary hadn’t expected that the first person to jump in and explain after she spoke wouldn’t be Maxwell Peary, but Nia Mitchell.
"Well, I’m already twenty years old. I’m an adult now."
Evelyn Peary looked utterly exasperated. Miss Mitchell, please! I’m trying to help you; you’re on the wrong side!
Hearing Nia’s urgent voice, a flicker of indulgence crossed Maxwell’s eyes. He feigned indifference and poured himself a cup of tea.
He savored it slowly. The tea here had always suited his taste; it was the sa flavor as before, unchanged.
"So what if you’re an adult? You’re only twenty. My brother is nine years older than you."
Maxwell’s face instantly darkened. He never used to care about age, but now, any ntion of his age would make him bristle.
"Evelyn! Shouldn’t you consider your own age? Mom was asking just the other day about that Hastings boy’s character..."
"Stop, stop!" Evelyn Peary quickly cut Maxwell Peary off, a look of disdain on her face.
"Yancy Hastings? Give a break, dear brother. My relationship with him is even closer than with you. If you two try to set us up, pfft, that would be incest in minutes!"
Evelyn Peary quickly shook her head, trying to banish those bizarre thoughts. It gave her goosebumps all over.
Maxwell Peary naturally knew Evelyn’s temperant. He’d only said that to stop her from talking about his age.
However, he didn’t deny that he had seriously considered the matter between Evelyn Peary and Yancy Hastings. And he wasn’t opposed to his mother’s matchmaking attempts.
"What kind of language is that for a young lady?"
Evelyn Peary faltered. Right, being with him is like being with the family Elders; one must always sit upright, behave properly, and constantly be mindful of decorum.

"Then, Sister-in-law, go complain to Mom. My brother is most afraid of Mom."
Evelyn Peary’s eyes lit up as she gave Nia Mitchell this idea. She eagerly anticipated such a scene; Maxwell Peary would then be isolated by the three won of the family.
WAHAHA, that kind of scene would definitely be spectacular!
Nia Mitchell smiled with difficulty. Uncle Peary’s sister is really interesting. Is she always so quick to warm up to everyone?
Only if I were a fool would I go and complain. So what if Mom-in-law really stood up for ?
