She gave a bitter smile and looked up at the two lawyers before her.
"Miss Grant, we trust you’ll make the right decision. The young master will gain nothing by staying with you. Furthermore, we are aware of his condition. The Morgan family will send him overseas for the best possible treatnt as soon as possible," one of the lawyers said.
The lawyer’s words felt like mockery, each sentence a dagger to her heart.
She had been avoiding the reality of Gerry’s illness, desperately trying to do her best.
But just as the lawyer said, she was utterly helpless.
Even selling the Royal Bay Villa wouldn’t be enough; she still couldn’t do anything.
"I am, of course, sensible. Just like seven years ago, my choices have always been to the Morgan family’s utmost satisfaction," she said, her voice flat, feigning indifference.
With that, she swiftly signed the docunt, her face betraying no sorrow, as if she were truly willing.
"Thank you for your trouble, gentlen. I am also quite satisfied with this compensation." Shirley Grant waved the check lightly; its long succession of zeroes was dazzling, yet she didn’t even glance at it, not knowing its actual value.
"Miss Grant, you truly are resourceful." The lawyer continued, his voice devoid of inflection as he relayed Morgan Sr.’s ssage: "Seven years ago, you received a large sum of money, and today, you’ve received another. In the future, the Morgan family hopes to have no further dealings with you."
Shirley could guess. Only that man could say sothing so callous.
"I apologize for the trouble I’ve caused the Morgan family. However, whether such a situation will arise again isn’t sothing I can decide," she replied, a hollow laugh escaping her lips.
Saying this, she clutched the check, turned, and pushed open the conference room door, walking out step by step.
The world outside was a blinding white, an expanse that felt desolate and sorrowful.
She started towards the Intensive Care Unit, but several bodyguards imdiately moved to block her path.
"Miss Grant, since the contract is signed, it must be honored from this mont on. We will escort you out now. Please cooperate." Without waiting for her response, they moved to forcibly lead her away.
Shirley snapped back to reality, tears instantly streaming down her face.
"Let see Gerry one last ti! Just a glance from afar," she begged, but the bodyguards paid her no heed. One of them knocked her unconscious with a swift chop.
「anwhile, in the Intensive Care Unit.」
Alan Morgan stirred, slowly regaining consciousness.
He was terribly exhausted. The pervasive pain throughout his body hadn’t been enough to wake him. But just then, a sharp, heart-wrenching pang pierced through him, jolting him into a sliver of consciousness.
Opening his eyes, he saw his mother and Gerry standing by his bedside.
"Alan, you’re finally awake! You have no idea how worried I’ve been," his mother cried, tears of relief streaming down her face now that she saw he was alright.
Alan’s lips moved, but no words ca out.
"Dad?" Gerry sensed Alan’s gaze on him and called out timidly.
Just those two simple letters, the ordinary word "Dad"—his fingers twitched. His gaze fixed on Gerry, unwilling to move.
It was like seeing his younger self, or perhaps just a shadow of who he once was.
What a wondrous realization.
For seven years, he hadn’t known he even had a son. A little boy, his own flesh and blood, had been slowly growing up, and he had missed all seven of those years.
It was all that woman’s fault!
A surge of anger, a mont of daze, and suddenly... he couldn’t recall her face, her na, or anything they had experienced together...
