The mayor felt satisfied with what he heard and nodded.
"Exactly, all sorts of people are in these humble wards. It’s a ss."
The mayor suddenly spoke, his words carrying a heavy, targeted aning.
Upon hearing this, Nia Mitchell imdiately furrowed her brow.
"What do you an by that?"
Nia wasn’t one to be taken advantage of anymore. After being spoiled by Maxwell Peary, she had long since shrugged off the little bit of timidity she once had.
"I’m telling you, aren’t you afraid I’ll leak what you’re saying if you talk like this?"
What kind of society is this, anyway? she thought, scoffing internally.
If this mayor wanted to keep his job secure, he should be doing it properly.
For him to be here, using his official position to speak like this, was simply intolerable.
The mayor was startled, then a smile suddenly spread across his face.
"Little miss, are you threatening ?"
The mayor’s expression turned dangerous. In D City, no one dared to speak to him this way.
Nia, like a newborn calf unafraid of a tiger, displayed an audacity that shocked the other two adults in the room.
"I’m sorry, she’s just a child and doesn’t know any better," Nia’s father imdiately apologized, his face full of remorse and fear, the very picture of a man without power or influence.
Molly Harguez, who had been so arrogant just a mont ago, now sat there, not daring to utter a single word.
"Doesn’t know any better? I think she’s not that young," the mayor said, looking at Nia. She didn’t look like a child at all. She’s definitely an adult.
"Mr. Mayor, please be magnanimous and don’t hold it against her," Nia’s father pleaded, terrified. If he offended the mayor, their lives would likely beco miserable.
The Mitchell family was already going through a difficult ti. Their son had suffered a terrible misfortune and was still lying in bed, unconscious.
They absolutely couldn’t afford any more trouble.
"What? If I say anything more, will that be considered nitpicking?" the mayor retorted.
If the other party had remained assertive, the mayor might have been more restrained, perhaps worried they had so backing.
But seeing Nia’s father’s deanor, all his concerns vanished.
It seems this Nia Mitchell is indeed too conceited, he thought.
Young won these days, he mused. They study for a few years and think they can use book smarts to lecture others.
"You two are quite bold, aren’t you? Daring to say such things to here." The mayor, sensing his advantage, decided to press the issue.
Nia quickly pulled her father behind her, her expression resolute.
"What? Are you going to use your position to bully us?"
The mayor sneered. "So what if I am bullying you with my power? What are you going to do about it?"
He refused to believe he couldn’t handle a re slip of a girl on his own territory.
"Nia Mitchell, shut your mouth! Are you trying to get us all killed?" Molly Harguez suddenly cried out, stepping in front of the mayor.
"I’m sorry, Mr. Mayor, we really didn’t an to offend you. If anyone is at fault, it’s Nia Mitchell alone." Molly Harguez now only wanted to push all the responsibility onto Nia; she had to ensure her own safety.
Seeing this, Nia Mitchell was filled with disdain.
"Yes, yes, it’s all my fault," Nia said, shooting Molly Harguez a sidelong glance, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Not only does this matter have nothing to do with you, but nothing I do has anything to do with you."
"That’s right," Molly Harguez quickly agreed. "She said it, it has nothing to do with ."
