Seeing her like this, everyone present understood what was happening. Mr. Mitchell felt a wave of relief wash over him, but it was quickly followed by an even deeper sense of worry.
He was worried about another matter entirely. Marrying into a wealthy family wasn’t as simple as it seed. How many won, after entering such prestigious households, ended up spending their days in tears? Right now, Nia and him might be deeply in love, but what about in the long run? What if Young Master Peary eventually grew tired of Nia Mitchell? What would happen if she were bullied? Their own family was utterly powerless, unable to offer any support or make any difference whatsoever.
Although Aldy Mitchell was young, he too had considered this, and a look of firm resolve settled on his face. He vowed to himself that he must study diligently and, in the future, beco his sister’s staunchest supporter. If he could beco powerful, then his sister would undoubtedly be able to secure her position within her husband’s family.
"He treats very well, so you don’t need to worry," Nia Mitchell said with a smile, quickly adding this reassurance when she noticed her father seed a bit troubled.
Mr. Mitchell nodded but said nothing more, simply sitting down to one side. If things had truly progressed to this point, then any objection he might raise would be utterly useless.
"So, does that an I’m Young Master Peary’s mother-in-law?" Molly Harguez’s eyes lit up, her face alight with incredulous surprise.
So, Nia Mitchell had finally done sothing right! Wouldn’t this an she was destined for wealth and success from now on? From this day forward, she too would be part of the elite social circle! Who would dare to look down on her then? She was Young Master Peary’s mother-in-law—the mother-in-law of *the* Young Master Peary!
"Whether you’re actually his mother-in-law or not, you know best in your own heart," Nia Mitchell said, looking at Molly Harguez with clear annoyance.
"I *am* his mother-in-law! A stepmother is still a mother!" Molly Harguez retorted.
Nia Mitchell frowned, her disgust evident. "Let tell you sothing first: our relationship hasn’t been made public. If news of this leaks out because of you, he definitely won’t spare you." Nia could only resort to threats.
But Molly Harguez, in her current state of elation, couldn’t care less about such warnings. "What can he do to ? I’m his mother-in-law!" she declared, standing there with an air of self-righteousness. She spoke with imnse pride, as if she herself possessed the status of Young Master Peary.
Just as Maxwell Peary pushed open the door, this was the sentence he heard. Instantly, the expression on his face changed, and a chilling silence fell over him.
He pushed the door open fully and walked in. Nia Mitchell was the first to see him, her face lighting up with pleasant surprise. "Why are you here?"
She could hardly believe her eyes. Wasn’t he supposed to be handling so important matters? Given his usual diligence, he should have been occupied for at least an entire day. How could he possibly have arrived here so quickly?
"You didn’t need to co if you were busy; there’s nothing much going on here," Nia Mitchell said, perceiving the profound exhaustion hidden beneath his composed facade. A pang of sympathy struck her heart.
"It’s fine. I’ve mostly wrapped things up, so I ca over to see how you are," Maxwell Peary replied, then glanced towards Molly Harguez. "I have a wife, but no mother-in-law."
He stood there, and with that sudden pronouncent, the atmosphere in the room instantly turned icy, as if the temperature had plumted several degrees.
The smug look on Molly Harguez’s face vanished in an instant, replaced by an expression of utter dejection, like a frost-bitten eggplant. "What do you an by that?" she asked, a hint of unwillingness in her voice, though it lacked any real accusatory tone.
Because, deep down, she knew she had neither the confidence nor the right to question him.
"You don’t need to know," Maxwell Peary stated flatly. He was a formidable man; he had already ticulously investigated every detail concerning Nia Mitchell.
