"I will take responsibility for you!"
The voice in her ear belonged to Yancy Hastings.
Tears stread down Fiona Sutton’s face. Her chapped lips trembled, but she couldn’t utter another word.
Pregnant.
She had found out she was carrying his child only after Yancy Hastings had already sacrificed himself.
If only... If only he had returned safely this ti. She would have definitely agreed. Because a long, long ti ago, she had sworn to be a good mother. How could a good mother let her child grow up without a father?
"Oh? You didn’t know?"
The Doctor paused, looking at Fiona’s state and the expression on Charles Northwood’s face with so bewildernt.
"So, do you want to keep this baby?"
"Yes!" Fiona instantly blurted out. "Yes, of course! Why wouldn’t I?" How could I possibly abandon my own child?
"Since you want this baby, you can’t take any dication or have injections. You can only rely on physical thods to reduce the fever. If the high fever doesn’t subside, you might not be able to keep the baby, even if you want to," the Doctor said, sighing. "We can only check on the fetus after your fever goes down."
Fiona listened carefully to the Doctor, asking many questions about the baby.
By the ti she left the Hospital, more than an hour had passed.
Charles Northwood drove her to his Apartnt. "You’re still running a high fever," he said, his voice tinged with worry. "Continuing like this will affect the baby."
"I’m pregnant," Fiona murmured, still in disbelief, her hands never leaving her belly.
Seeing her like this, Charles Northwood sighed and carried her to the bed.
He gently laid her down, then went to the kitchen and fetched nurous ice packs from the fridge.
Seeing her vacant expression, he was deeply concerned. "The Doctor said that if you want to keep this baby, you need to take good care of yourself," he reminded her.
Thank goodness there’s a child now, he thought. At least she won’t feel like life is aningless. He’d never realized her feelings for Yancy Hastings ran so deep.
Hearing Charles Northwood’s words, Fiona nodded.
Seeing Fiona so earnest was heart-wrenching.
Nia Mitchell brought food to the Hospital. Her father and Aldy Mitchell were chatting, but Molly Harguez was nowhere to be seen.
"Dinner’s here," Nia Mitchell announced, mustering her spirits as she placed the al box on the table.
"Let’s wait a little longer," her father said, then left the ward.
"Where’s Dad going?" Nia asked, turning to Aldy on the bed with a puzzled look.
"He went to find Mom," Aldy replied. "She said the Hospital was too depressing, so she went for a walk in the garden downstairs."
Nia was taken aback. A walk? Isn’t that sothing a patient should be doing?
"So, how are you feeling today?" Nia asked Aldy.
She looked at him. The wounds on his face had mostly healed. His head was still wrapped in bandages, but he could move his arm freely. The only injury that hadn’t recovered was his foot.
This was the main reason he couldn’t get out of bed yet.
"How could I recover so quickly?" Aldy said, a faint smile on his face. "You ask every day, but I feel the sa."
Seeing his expression, Nia understood.
"Once you’re able to get out of bed, you’ll need to exercise diligently," she told him.
An injury to bones and tendons takes a hundred days to heal, Nia recalled.
"I know," Aldy said. "It’s just a pity I can’t take the College Entrance Exam today."
That was what saddened him the most, Nia thought. Seeing him like this, she sighed softly.
"That’s not necessarily true," she encouraged. "As long as you rest well, you can definitely make it in ti for the College Entrance Exam."
Aldy nodded. Beside him lay all his high school textbooks.
Even though he said that, he’d actually never stopped studying, Nia realized.
