From eavesdropping on their conversation, Lu Lingfei had learned that Lin Tang used to be a martial artist but was crippled during a duel. Since he was a cripple now, it didn't matter how glorious or powerful he had been in the past. It was all just fleeting clouds, not worth ntioning. In the martial world, the fate of such people was typically bleak.
And yet, sohow, Lin Tang had a stunningly beautiful wife, Shen Youling, who stuck with him through thick and thin. Even the powerful Lee Encai, a woman who didn't fear bullets, willingly threw herself at him, content to share him with Shen Youling.
Why? Is Lee Encai an idiot? As a top-tier expert, she's more than qualified to call the shots in the martial world, wield supre power, and command endless wealth. To unite the martial world and rule for ages... that was one of my greatest dreams, too! Yet here she is, head over heels in love, content to nest in this rundown room and entangle herself with a cripple. Co on! Have a little ambition, would you?
"A cripple is unworthy of being my master! I may fear death, but I will never suffer such a humiliation!" Lu Lingfei said, his face a mask of determination.
"Oh, you dare to look down on my dear Lin Tang? Then you can just die!" Lee Encai cracked her knuckles, her killing intent flaring as she charged forward.
Lu Lingfei shivered and his tone changed instantly. "If I must acknowledge a master, then I am willing to serve you! Please, give a chance!"
"What use would I have for a scrub like you?"
"I..."
Lin Tang, however, wasn't bothered by Lu Lingfei's condescending attitude. He pulled Lee Encai back. "It's the sa if he becos your servant. Just accept him."
Lee Encai tilted her head in confusion. "I don't see what use he is. We might as well just get rid of him."
If it weren't for Lin Tang's support... if she hadn't evolved into a powerful Gu Immortal... what a tragic fate she would have suffered eting Lu Lingfei! The very thought made her killing intent surge.
Of course, this was partly due to her personality being influenced by becoming a Gu Immortal. Back when she was just a cute girl, she had certainly been more rciful.
Seeing her so decisive and lethal, Li Weihai nodded in approval. Pei Huixian, on the other hand, looked like she wanted to say sothing but held back, sighing to herself.
Lin Tang rolled his eyes. "Co on. The fact that he could last more than ten seconds against you at his age is impressive enough."
One had to rember that Lin Tang's recent fights had been against divine avatars, Martial Saints, and War Gods—battles that made mountains crumble and the heavens change color. But those were all ancient relics. Among the modern humans he'd t since coming down the mountain, Lu Lingfei was definitively in the top tier. This excluded middle-aged masters like Xiao Xuanye and Guo Jufeng, and ignored those like Mu Ping'an, Mu Fan, and Yan Luoyang who had been transford by divine influence.
Even Yan Renjie, before being enhanced by the sword seed, would lose to him. If they were to fight at a distance, one with a sword and the other with a gun, Lu Lingfei would undoubtedly be the winner. Even Gu Zicheng, who could kill silently with his Gu insects, would be the one to die in a nine-out-of-ten scenario if he made an enemy of Lu Lingfei and they both attacked at the sa ti.
To put it plainly, Lu Lingfei's draw was too fast and his accuracy was exceptionally high. For anyone who couldn't physically withstand bullets, a fight with him would be a swift death. True masters were hard to co by, and talent was rare. Lin Tang didn't mind sparing his life.
"When the Underworld eventually invades, your parents will need the protection of an expert, too," Lin Tang said earnestly.
"That's true... Okay, I agree!" Lee Encai found his reasoning sound and relented.
Lu Lingfei felt as if he'd been granted a pardon, but he was also confused. The Underworld invasion? What does that an?
Naturally, they had to place so kind of control on him to prevent any betrayal.
"Should you do it, or should I?" Lee Encai asked, rubbing her hands together eagerly.
Lin Tang smiled. "Since he's to be your servant, you should do it, of course."
"Then I won't hold back!" Lee Encai flashed a devilish smile.
Lu Lingfei was completely bewildered. 'You do it, or I do it?' What were they planning now?
A mont later, Lee Encai gave him his answer. She walked to the window, slid it open, and blew a sharp whistle. Less than a minute passed before a chorus of soft, rustling sounds could be heard from outside. A closer look revealed a swarm of colorful insects, packed as densely as an army. They crawled up the walls and poured through the open window. The mont they hit the floor, they coalesced into a writhing mass and began to viciously slaughter one another.
Soon, all the dead were consud, leaving only one worm alive. Though covered in wounds and oozing green fluid, it looked strangely majestic as it hopped about, full of life. It displayed terrifying vitality as it swelled to a massive size.
WHOOSH!
It leaped like a moth to a fla, landing in Lee Encai's hands.
"Good baby," she cooed, petting the worm—now as thick as her wrist—as if it were a puppy.
From the mont the insect army had appeared, everyone in the room except for Lin Tang had been staring at her, dumbfounded. Shen Youling was taking it relatively well, but the other four were completely stunned.
Holy shit! What the hell kind of martial art is this?! Lu Lingfei roared internally.
He then watched as the worm, seemingly in fast-forward, rapidly spun a web and encased itself in a cocoon. Through its translucent wall, he could clearly see the worm dissolve into a writhing pool of liquid. This slurry then began to gestate into a new species, radiating an indescribable sense of horror and disgust. It took only a few minutes. With a sharp CRACK, the cocoon split open, and sothing like an octopus tentacle slithered out. It was covered in suckers of various sizes, which were themselves covered in even tinier tendrils. In the center of each sucker was a single, dim eyeball.
SWISH!
In unison, every single eye swiveled to stare fixedly at Lu Lingfei.
His face turned green.
