Shen Youling was still only an early-stage practitioner. Defeating a few opponents was one thing, but using spells to save a life... She was completely out of her depth.
Now, one was her biological father and the other her legal husband. Both could keel over at any mont. She was frantic with worry, but there was nothing she could do except watch helplessly. Her heart filled with self-bla.
Why? Why didn't I co back sooner? Why did I think Lin Tang was just pretending to be unconscious? And why didn't I arrange for my parents to stay sowhere safe... she thought, drowning in regret.
At that mont, Dong Mingfeng, Lu Zizheng, and Shen Jiayue ran in, panting for breath. When they learned Lin Tang was unconscious and unable to save anyone, they were utterly stunned.
"This is bad, this is really bad!"
"How could this have happened?"
Dong Mingfeng's mind raced, panicked and guilt-ridden. Why is Lin Tang dying now of all tis? If he can't save my husband and my husband dies, the police will launch a serious investigation. If they find out I'm the murderer, won't I be finished too?
Lu Zizheng broke out in a cold sweat. After all, the idea had been his, buying the radioactive poison had been his doing, and even administering it was all him. Dong Mingfeng might be considered an accomplice and get prison ti, but he was likely facing the death penalty.
"No, it can't be such a coincidence!" Lu Zizheng shouted like a madman. "That bastard Lin Tang must be faking it! He's doing this on purpose, just to watch him die! Youling, what kind of worthless, cold-blooded husband did you find?!"
He then lunged toward Lin Tang, intending to shake him awake.
Dong Mingfeng followed suit, grabbing at Lin Tang's face. "Get the hell up! Stop your damn act!"
"You're courting death!" A murderous glint flashed in Lee Encai's eyes, and she was about to fill their stomachs with insects.
However, Shen Youling acted faster, grabbing the two and flinging them back with force. They both fell flat on their faces.
"Youling, why are you hitting us?"
"That's enough! Lin Tang is definitely not acting; he's in real trouble," Shen Youling said, forcing herself to remain calm. "All of you, get out. I'll try to find a way to wake him."
"At this point, how could you possibly wake him..."
"Get out!"
Dong Mingfeng and the others flinched and obediently shuffled out.
"Grandfather, I'm sorry. It's my fault for not believing you. Please, give so space for a mont too."
"Ah, you foolish child..." Shen Qiushi shook his head with a long sigh and departed, his heart heavy with grief.
"Encai, you..."
"I'm not leaving," Lee Encai cut her off. "Who knows what you might do to him if I'm not here."
Shen Youling's voice was laced with bitterness. "I'm his wife. Why would I ever harm him?"
"So you do rember you're his wife?" Lee Encai retorted. "You ignored him whenever he needed you most, but every single ti you need him, you co running back without an ounce of sha. Don't you feel ashad? What do you even take him for?"
"I..." Shen Youling lowered her head, at a loss for words.
"You're planning to use Dual Cultivation to try and wake him up, aren't you?" Lee Encai mocked. "Don't assu that just because your constitution is special and you're qualified to practice it with him, Dual Cultivation is so kind of cure-all. You can't solve his problem this ti with that thod. Don't bother stripping and embarrassing yourself!"
"...What exactly happened to him?"
"I don't know! We were traveling around the capital, and everything was perfectly fine. Then he just... stopped moving. Right before he lost consciousness, he told he needed to enter closed-door cultivation. He said he would wake up in a few days and that I shouldn't worry."
"He said that?" Shen Youling's expression flickered. If Lin Tang had said that, then there was a high probability he really was fine. If she could just wait a few more days, he might actually wake up.
That ant she first had to find a way to keep her father, Shen Xin, from breathing his last. His life had to be sustained at all costs.
Therefore, Shen Youling decisively resorted to her wealth, instructing her subordinates to rush Shen Xin to the best hospital in the area imdiately. She then contacted a host of renowned doctors, including Ge Shijian and Sun Siwei. She couldn't be sure if any of this would be enough to keep Shen Xin alive. All she could do was her best and leave the rest to fate.
She even considered contacting Long Tianji, hoping he might do her a favor and take a look. Perhaps he could help either Lin Tang or Shen Xin. In response to this, Lee Encai's face was a mask of scorn. On several occasions, she barely stopped herself from revealing the shocking truth that Lin Tang *was* Long Tianji.
And so, the days passed.
Despite Shen Youling spending money like water, Shen Xin's life force was still draining away. His internal organs were failing and withering, his very life essence scattering. Desperate and haggard, Shen Youling kept a constant vigil by Lin Tang's side, staring at his tightly closed eyes. How she wished his eyelashes would just twitch, that his fingers would tremble even slightly.
But alas, there was nothing.
That day, Shen Youling received a phone call from Sun Siwei.
"Youling, despite our team's twenty hours of continuous, rotating treatnt, your father's body is giving out. He has a few hours left, at most. If we can't find another way, his death is certain. You... should prepare yourself."
Shen Youling froze.
Tears stread down her face as she recalled all the small monts of care and love from her father, Shen Xin, throughout her life. She couldn't bear the thought of him dying at this age.
Beside her, Shen Qiushi's face was also etched with sorrow. It was a cruel twist of fate. He was about to experience a parent's worst nightmare: burying his own son.
THUD!
Shen Youling ended the call and dropped to her knees in front of Lin Tang. Grasping his hand, she sobbed, "Lin Tang, I'm begging you, please wake up. Please? I'm begging you..."
Lee Encai watched on coldly, saying nothing.
Actually, I could use my gu arts. I could try to see if they can extend Shen Xin's life.
