I waited, and a short mont later, Henry ca back, in one hand the cake, in his other the black square.
"Did you just rob her?" I asked him, trying to appear expressionless.
"Yes." He nodded at earnestly, clearly probing to see how I would react.
That was sothing I gifted her, and because of that, you want it? Will you go and rob my friends as well? How about you get back the countless drinks they smooched off of ?
I chuckled, trying not to break down laughing. Sothing told that I should be angry; instead, however, I just found his behavior hilarious.
"Did you at least give her the contents of her bag back?" I asked. The square was so small that it had probably really just held her cards and cash.
"Mhm, and it’s my bag now." He was still scrutinizing , but not like he had done since the morning. He seed in a much better mood.
"Yes, yes, it’s all yours; it suits you." I laughed.
However, if he were to go outside carrying that thing, I would have to let it disappear. That was way too gaudy to serve as an accessory for a man.
"Right?" Henry raised the square in his hands, making a model pose.
I clapped. Such a big man stealing from such a small girl; sha on you.
"Fine. So let’s bring our loot to the room?" I asked him; there should be no more visitors for the day.
"I’ll bring everything up; you go eat lunch." Henry said.
Not sticking to , huh?
"Fine. But don’t start a new life with the cake, cash, and glittering handbag." I pulled out the thick envelope and stuffed it in Henry’s pants pocket.
"I’ll try to resist that temptation." It probably should have been a joke, but with his eyes wandering to my lips, it wasn’t that hard to say what he was thinking.
"Mhm. Then, see you soon." I patted his shoulder and walked in front of him out of the room while he followed before we split up.
I’m really sorry for the people who had to clean up the cake all over the floor, but I won’t do that myself on my birthday as long as they don’t bring the old dragon back for her to help .
I was halfway through my al when Henry finally ca to the dining room; everyone had stared at strangely without the handso dog that was usually hanging on .
No idea what he had been doing while in the room, but because it was my birthday, it probably had sothing to do with that.
I can’t believe I forgot the day I would turn into an adult.
But it couldn’t be helped. From the ti my mother died to the ti I got comfortable with my friends, my birthdays were ignored.
The dragon only provided with money in my bank account and a congratulatory card, either thinking that my father would at least celebrate that day with or not caring either way.
She had already said it. At that ti, she was much older, much closer to death than now, and I can understand that she didn’t want to care about anything anymore.
I’m not holding it against her. If she brought two cakes for my birthdays in the future and didn’t smash one of them again, she could soon make up for forgotten past cakes.
"By the way, where is Jeyjey?" I asked Chelsea, unsure if I had already asked that.
"In another group...though I haven’t seen her in a while." Chelsea looked around before standing up and scanning the huge dining room.
"Mhm." Maybe I was wrong, but her having gone missing, along with Red Hair, made suspect they were participating in the DMT tests.
"How about Sebastian?" I hadn’t asked them about him.
Glasses guy answered as Henry ca with a plate full of at to our table and sat down beside .
"I haven’t seen him since coming here; I’m not even sure he has ever been here."
"Who? Baggy Jeans?" Henry asked.
"Yeah." I nodded, and seeing that Henry wanted to bite into a chicken wing without using cutlery, I conjured up a hairband and stuffed it into his hand.
He broke into a smile and tied back his hair.
I can’t hold it back for him every ti; that guy needed to learn to carry a hairband with him...though I could always conjure one up, and we were always together anyway.
"Were you also asked? To take part in so experint?" Anti-Guy asked.
"I think Valeria participated in it, and because of that, she isn’t here anymore."
Oh yeah. They didn’t tell the others what this experint was about in detail, contrary to what they told , but it had also been who had given them the lead in the first place.
Still, it seed my warning to one of the twins was spread accordingly, and nobody accepted that experint, even without the ntion of DMT.
"Yes, we declined." One of the twins answered, looking at . Chelsea also nodded before glancing at .
Henry and I really seed to have been asked first, giving the chance to warn them. Good to know that we were their preferred lab rats.
After eating, Dr. Lawrence found Henry and unexpectedly and brought us to the white room. We sat beside each other, across from her, like before.
I looked at the blonde doctor; she looked awful. Did she really get so excited that she stopped sleeping altogether?
"Henry." She interlocked her fingers, addressing him.
He just humd and tapped the table, waiting for what she would share.
"So we have looked over the samples, and although your ability is a mystery, we can tell that it works in three different ways. Simultaneously. Humanity has never seen anything like this."
She turned to .
"Though, naturally, your ability is just as unheard of."
"I am not competing with him; you don’t have to appease ." I chuckled, Henry chiming in.
Dr. Lawrence nodded briefly, her eye bags appearing grotesque.
"Three components." She raised three fingers.
"First, extrely high temperatures." She put one finger down.
"Second, acid." Another one, until only her index finger remained.
"Third, atom splitting." She put her hand down again, interlocking them.
"The reason why different surfaces react differently to your power is that you utilize either one of these three components, two combined, or sotis all three."
I raised my eyebrows and punched Henry’s shoulder.
"Look at you, all powerful." I praised, while Henry gazed at the table in contemplation.
Dr. Lawrence gave a stern glance before addressing Henry again, then turning to us both.
"Like Kenny’s power, yours is also a danger to... everyone. I must ask you two to wield your gifts with utmost care."
"We don’t like chains, especially if we can get rid of them at any ti." Henry advised.
It was a bit comical that this ca from him, but nice that he reminded her. If possible, I would like to stay free from another ankle monitor.
Instead, get a smartwatch with an intact display.
