"Fuck."
Were these ti differences really utterly random? What should we do? What if the ti doubles each ti I visit?
First one month, now two—what if tomorrow in my world ans four months in Henry’s?
Henry let go, cupping my face again while he stared into my eyes through the glasses that separated us, the body that separated us, a whole world or two separating us.
"I’m sorry." Sorry that I am leaving you alone.
"It’s okay, as long as you co back quickly." His intense blue eyes were so close that it seed as if he was trying to block out the fact that this was Harry’s body, just seeing the red in my eyes, just seeing .
"Do you have any additional mories or sothing?" I asked him.
He furrowed his brows.
"No. Why?"
"I conjured you up from the mory before the shooting. You are now in my world as well, running around, being angry at , and eating chicken wings."
"You can conjure people up?!" Henry asked, stunned.
"Can I use my power?" He shot right after.
"Yes, to both."
"Good..." He looked away, contemplating.
"Then I can protect you in one way or another."
"Don’t worry, I am alright. The mont I get back, I’ll flip the coin until I find a way out."
Henry reached into his pants, and I heard so paper rustling.
"Look at this." He distanced himself, handing the paper.
Reading the content, I found two pieces of paper stating that Harry and Patrick would gladly give up their bodies for to use.
I looked at Henry, suppressing my laughter. Does he think I don’t know that even if they had refused, he would have gotten them to agree one way or another?
Still, I couldn’t dismiss his effort, and this could be a good lesson for Harry and Patrick—not to drink so unknown stuff just because soone had asked them to.
"Good job; now I don’t have to feel bad when using their bodies." I gave the two papers back and saw how Henry acidified them until nothing was left. Then he ca closer again and cupped my face, blending out the body I was in.
"Mhm, you don’t have to. What are you doing there? Is it dangerous? Did you get hurt?"
"I bled on a crystalline figure, and it went berserk, but I beat it up with ease." What was just ant to show off in front of him did not have the targeted effect.
"Why did you bleed in the first place?" He asked with narrowed eyes.
Damn, déjà vu.
"I cut myself on a crystal; it was a small wound, and that thing went berserk." I lied.
"What’s going on on your side?" I wasn’t rely changing the topic; I really wanted to know.
The fact that Henry’s ti passed faster than mine made not only apologetic and antsy but also paranoid.
What if more ti passes until I find a way out? What if years go by? What if he ets soone he would prefer to ? What if he gets a bunch of friends and has the ti of his life?
Rationally, I know that nothing matters as long as he is happy, but the deep dark part of that needs to possess, control, and seek constant confirmation doesn’t care about his happiness as long as that happiness isn’t because of while he is by my side and I am by his.
"I won’t kneel in front of Harry. If you want to show my devotion, then co back and command to kneel while you are inside your own body." His lips were so close that I could feel his breath, though he made a point not to touch ’’, while his eyes were so intense that I felt electrified just by looking at them.
I chuckled breathlessly.
"How did you know?"
"Your eyes flicker disturbingly when you go into a paranoid state."
"Disturbingly?"
"Mhm, it’s hot." He laughed deeply.
"You are disturbing ." I chid in with his laughter, trying to get a grip on my dark thoughts.
"That’s my specialty."
"True." I chuckled.
"Instead of staring and reading my thoughts, go ahead and finally tell what’s going on on your side," I urged him.
He sighed in annoyance, but he should know as well as I do that we wouldn’t have much more ti together.
"Your grandma heard about the shooting and smashed Dr. Lawrence’s desk in anger."
"Bahhaha, at least nobody got injured...?"
"It was a close call, but no. She is also trying to get in touch with Dr. Lawrence’s father and grandfather, the people responsible for the center."
"Really... and?"
"Dr. Lawrence herself says she is currently unable to reach them. Your grandma and Ethan can’t find them and get blocked wherever they ask for them, and I can’t teleport to them, even though I know their nas."
"You can’t teleport to people without knowing their nas?"
"Mhm, I can’t. Henrietta, Dr. Lawrence’s father, her grandfather, and you are the only ones I can’t reach."
"Hmm." It was a bit difficult to hold a steady train of thought with him so close and staring so intensely.
Anyway, it was hard to reach a conclusion without knowing the ins and outs of Henry’s ability—of what exactly he was able to do and what would hinder him from using it. For example, he couldn’t teleport into another world. Maybe that was not the only restriction; maybe he couldn’t get through different materials.
One thing for sure, I hadn’t seen either of the people he ntioned inside the crystal world.
"What does she want to do anyway if she finds them? Destroy their desks as well? Why search for them?"
"Your grandma surely wants to vent her anger, but that isn’t all. We want to find out about the prophet you’ve seen in your vision."
"You told them?" I also wanted to learn about that unreliable prophet, making a joke about the Lawrence family’s patriarch.
"Yeah, and if there is soone running around with the sa power you have, then we all want to make sure that child isn’t connected to you."
"Child?" That ca unexpectedly.
"Yep, the prophet is nine years old—that’s what Omar found out; that was all, though."
"If that kid is nine years old, what connection can he have with ?" Given that ti differences even robbed of two and a half years in my own world, the child and I only shared the sa world for six and a half to seven years.
Henry shrugged. "Having soone who can look into the future and relay his visions to a prestigious military family isn’t exactly good news, especially with the complexity the apocalypse ahead is bringing with it."
"Okay, is there sothing else? I don’t have much ti left." I felt the vortex tugging and pulling on , just like last ti.
Henry clenched his jaw, his grip on tightening, the unwillingness and tornt evident on his face.
"The center has started to steer the people here more into the soldier direction. At the mont, we are doing even more sports and learning different fighting techniques. The competitions are more extre, and the hints they give during the therapy sessions are even more deliberate."
I nodded as far as I could with my face gripped so tightly.
"You decide how to proceed with this, whether you want to attend the lessons or not."
Henry licked his lips. "You don’t think that the next ti you co back the ti will have doubled again, right? You’ll co back sooner than in four months, will you?"
I grabbed his wrists.
"I will do my absolute utmost so that we won’t stay separated." I couldn’t assure him otherwise because I didn’t know. From what I could see, ti was passing by absolutely randomly.
"But I can make you a promise. If I co back and find out that you have found yourself a new master, best friend, or whatever, I will kill you both." I can conjure up his past self that had only in their eyes at any ti, though I would never fucking ever want to do such a fucked-up thing.
But I can’t guarantee that for that depraved side of mine that showed itself in each of my counterparts.
So don’t force to turn into a complete lunatic.
"Don’t forget who put that collar on you." The more I spoke, the more I could see Henry’s eyes turn fervent, as if he not only liked that I was caring enough to threaten him but also thirsted to hear to what lengths I would go.
I felt the vortex pulling at , sucking back into it as I heard my dog whining and barking from far away.
"You are already doing that; YOU ARE ALREADY KILLING !
HOW COULD I EVER FORGET?
HURRY UP AND CO BACK TO !"
