The greed for my blood was their demise, and the wriggling and squirming around us ceased after a ti.

Here and there a few jerking motions remained, and we were still drowning in rats, but there shouldn’t be that many still alive.

Henry had his head still buried in my neck; his puppy-like licking had turned into sucking and nibbling, and I let him, given that he needed a chew toy.

"Hmm... can you maintain the crystalline surface so that we can teleport on top of the sphere and take a look?"

"Yeah, but I will go."

"Let flip the coin." I did as I told him and saw him standing on top of the sphere, watching over a sea of rat corpses. Here and there was still a wriggling, but nothing that spelled danger.

"It will be alright."

"Good, I’ll still go first." Henry let go of and crouched down.

He wrapped his hand in shadowy energy before sending it down into the ground to first get rid of my blood.

I stepped aside and watched his indispensable ability at work, marveling yet again at its precision.

"Everything’s gone." Henry looked up with a smile; the earth under his hand had sunk in, and if you were to jump on it, you surely would fall in a hole.

"What would I do without you?" I smirked at him.

"Probably conquer the world all by yourself." He laughed, but there was so sadness in his eyes.

"Sounds exhausting." I said, and it was as if his droopy ears perked up as he looked at much more happily.

"See? You need for the exhausting part. Was I useful today?" He stared at with twinkling puppy eyes, an absolute mismatch for his ravishing looks; at the sa ti, only he could pull this off.

"You were and are fucking aweso. Without you, nothing would have worked out in the first place." I stepped to him and bent down to cup his face and kiss him on top of his head.

"Sooo~ awe~so." I repeated slowly.

Henry’s imaginary tail was at work again, wagging happily as he hugged tightly and buried his head inside my stomach.

"Hehe~"

He chuckled happily and childishly before he took my hands and jumped up to hug tightly again, and I watched the black stars outside the shield disappear, giving us a bitter look at the sphere that was covered in blood.

"That looks creepy."

"Mhm, a red ball... It’s like we are inside the sun." Henry let go of before looking up.

Well, Henry had his own way of viewing things, and I can’t say I was not in love with the way he could romanticize the most brutal shit.

"I like it." I mumbled when Henry’s eyes snapped to , and he broke into another grin.

He put his hand over my heart, tapping twice with his fingers against my chest.

Sohow, it beca increasingly difficult to reciprocate his fiery gaze, but at the sa ti, it was impossible to look away.

"Stay here for now." Henry looked up again when I grabbed his wrist to stop him from teleporting.

He looked at with feigned confusion evident on his face, but I spotted the knowing anticipation in his gaze.

I raised my hand, and under his watchful eyes, I placed it on his chest, right above his heart, tapping two tis.

"Go now; let’s go ho soon." I cleared my throat and looked away in embarrassnt.

"Hahaha! Alright~" He lunged at again to smother with a hug before really letting go this ti and teleporting to the top of the sphere.

Looking up, I saw Henry standing on top of the bloody sphere, like a demon overseeing his territory of demise—giving off a deadly handso picture, no matter the circumstances he was in.

He tilted his head to listen in before sending small bouts of shadowy energy away now and then.

Well, look at turning lazier with each second. I really have to get my hands on so aweso science fiction weapons to help out a bit more in the future.

Henry then bent down and knocked against the red sphere with a beaming smile.

I teleported atop the shield, finally getting a look at the dinsion the ’fight’ the corpses had taken on.

This... the whole fucking HUGE garden was full of corpses, as deep as my height, that were littered with wounds, missing limbs, holes in their bodies, and everything.

It seed like a real tide; the rats had sward against the sphere to then get crushed underneath a new, upcoming, and unhard wave that would end up just like the ones before.

I can’t believe this worked so well.

I can’t believe there had been so many fucking rats in the city.

I can’t believe... I have to touch them...

"How are you regarding your powers?" I tilted my head and asked Henry.

"What do you need to do?" Henry pulled my body to his, holding from behind, and nibbled on his chew toy.

"Can you make a do there, halfway through the garden, with a bunch of corpses inside it? About ten to ten ters? I’ll touch the do, and we’ll leave." I had a feeling that I could conjure up the do later, together with the corpses inside, at the spot I pointed out where I had estimated the first batch to have landed, the one we killed with arrows and bullets.

Well, worst case, I was sure I could conjure up the whole garden.

I really don’t want to touch them, and I really don’t want to gather the corpses and take them with us. How would we even do that? It was just unrealistic.

I will conjure the whole number, fuck it.

"Yes, do you want to leave the rest of the corpses here?"

"No...?" I turned my head and smiled at him.

"Ahahaha, I have enough power left to acidify them all, don’t worry."

"And to teleport? You can have more of my blood."

"It’s alright." Henry let the crystals appear on top of his finger before pointing to the spot I had indicated.

A very big do with my desired dinsions was ford, as if it were the most natural thing to do.

It enclosed quite a number of rats, and after counting down from three to warn Henry, I teleported on top of it and crouched down.

Touching the surface, I committed it to my mory.

"That’s enough. Let’s go." I looked up at Henry, who had appeared in front of .

I didn’t do that much, but I already felt exhausted.

"Yeah, we wasted enough ti and don’t know when the military will show up here." He let the shadowy energy spread over the ground, parting the sea of corpses like a god, before acidifying each sector.

When the ground beneath us was clear, he grabbed and jumped down before letting the two spheres disappear.

Using so much power, he beca unsteady, and I bit into my wrist to force him to take in more of my blood.

Grabbing my wrist with one hand to suck my blood, he continued to work with his other hand, cleaning up the garden at an unbelievable speed.

I could hear soft sirens in the distance, which alard quite a bit. So the mont everything was done, I told Henry that we should go.

He let go of my wrist, and after making sure that none of my blood had spilled anywhere and watching my wound heal, he urged to go first.

"I’ll co back if you aren’t ho in three seconds. I’ll teleport to the entrance door." I implored him before counting down and teleporting.

The next second I arrived at the entrance door, where the sirens sounded much louder in my ears.

These were not car sirens from the police or an ambulance; they were the sirens scattered throughout the city for major incidents, the ones whose practice alarms were bothering the people every year.

I absolutely didn’t rember what this particular siren interval sequence ant, but oh well.

They reacted quite late to warn the citizens when all the work was already done.

Henry appeared behind to hug , while Ethan, Kitty, and The Kid quickly arrived in front of , the latter lunging at us for a hug.

"Why are you already here?" Ethan asked.

"What do you an? We are finished."

"...What about the rat corpses?" He nervously pushed his glasses up before halting in front of us, with Kitty sitting obediently beside him.

"Yeah, I will conjure them up when the ti cos; Henry acidified them."

"... You didn’t see your grandmother or check your phone...?" he asked.

"Ah." While balancing the kid in my arms, I reached into my pants pocket and pulled out my phone... which was dead.

Oh yeah, phones have to be charged.

I looked at Henry while showing him my dead phone.

He also reached into his pockets while giving the kid a look that told him not to get too comfortable in my arms.

Pulling it out, he showed the ssages.

[Is Kenny’s phone off? This is Omar.]

[We will be there soon with a bunch of n to get the corpses; the staff sergeant and your grandmother fetched us.]

[Where are the both of you?]

"Damn, why is nobody communicating in this house? Even my friends have gathered?" I mumbled before looking at Ethan.

He had already reached for his own phone and listened anxiously to the phone ringing.

Eventually the call connected, and Ethan assured a voice that sounded like my grandmother’s.

"They are here and alright; Henry disposed of the corpses." He said, before I heard screaming on the other end of the line, confirming that it was The Dragon.

I couldn’t make out exactly what was said, because the fucking sirens beca louder and louder.

"Mrs. Howard... Just return ho and send the n back ho. The authorities will probably arrive soon."

More yelling, and Ethan explained for us while holding the phone away.

"For now, it will be difficult for them to return. The military was dispatched."

"Will they be alright?" I asked, having a really bad feeling all of a sudden.

Ethan asked my grandmother before answering for us.

"Mrs. Howard said that the staff sergeant will take care of this and that you both shouldn’t move."

"Mhm..." I humd, the sinking feeling not going away at all, when I was distracted by the child tugging my shirt.

"Hm?" I asked him and saw him pulling out a little paper from his sleeve, where the words ’na please?’ were scribbled in childish and hesitant letters.

"We should stay here for now." Ethan looked at his phone when the connection broke off suddenly and the screaming from the other end stopped abruptly.

I nodded at him before looking at the child.

"Did you ever dream about your mom?"

The child shook his head.

"Her na was Serena. She loved you very much," I started, cautious of the child’s expression and if he showed the least bit of hurt.

But contrary to my expectations, the kid seed awfully detached about his mother, only waiting to hear his na.

"We’ll na you after her; your na is Ren."

The child bead, but the sirens grew another notch louder until the sound beca deafening.

Kitty stood up, growling deeply while looking at the door, prompting Henry to look out of the small window beside the entrance door, in his hand a bout of shadowy energy.

Fuck, I think my bad feeling didn’t warn about the others...

Henry turned around, radiating intense killing intent as he snarled,

"ZOMBIES!"

...It was about us.
