"How do they know that’s not just another otherworldly creature with wings?" I asked.

"Couldn’t that be anything? Why be scared of a bat-winged thing and not a Bone Dragon?"

Henry chuckled.

"Hell can be a much more terror-inducing place for people who believe, especially if they have gravely sinned."

Hmmm... I thought about my vision from flipping the coin on Dr. Lawrence, which showed a past conversation between her and her grandfather in his office. I hadn’t noticed any special signs there of them being hardcore believers.

I looked at the kid, who still stared at the drawing, with ongoing sparkles in his eyes.

"Ren, can you tell sothing?" I asked him quietly.

The kid ripped his eyes from the paper in his hand forcefully and nodded at with an adorable smile.

"Did the people in the Lawrence family do this often?" I first touched my forehead, my solar plexus, and then my left and right shoulders.

The kid nodded vigorously but raised a finger.

"There was just one person you saw doing that?" I asked him, and he nodded again.

"Eugene Senior?" Henry chid in with a questioning tone, and it was as if we were playing a ga with the kid, extracting hints about his traumatizing past.

Ren didn’t react, as if he didn’t really know that na.

"The oldest one, older than Grandma?" I asked while pointing at the window where she had stared out condemningly before, and he nodded again.

I turned my head to address Henry.

"We have a super old family head that is terrified of God’s judgnt?"

"Yes, he is the family head after all—no, he was," Henry chuckled.

"Now Eugene Lawrence Junior will take over, and he has a mysterious power of coming back to life; his father would have loved that." There was so excitent on Henry’s face, as if he couldn’t wait to kill him again.

Hmmm... I watched Kitty, who was still devouring the carps.

"If the junior takes over, maybe they’ll stop their bullshit." I felt Henry’s disbelieving gaze.

"What? I don’t believe it either," I told him, and he chuckled.

"Anyway, we have an explanation." Henry took the drawing and pointed to the red lines that were all above the bat-winged demon thing.

"Is this fire? Or blood?"

The kid raised two fingers, and when Henry asked if it was blood again, the kid nodded.

I would love to flip the coin of the kid and see his vision, but maybe because he had received my blood during his developnt inside his mother’s belly, it was just like I couldn’t flip the coin on myself.

"Are these winged people coming into our world?" Henry asked the kid, and the latter shrugged.

"When you kicked my ass inside that place, you were super strong. Can you use that power here?" A question I had wanted to ask for so ti now.

The kid thought for a mont and shrugged.

I held my palm out.

"Can you punch with all your might?"

Henry growled, in the midst of saying sothing, when the kid attacked my palm.

My puppy didn’t interfere, and I didn’t evade the attack because we both instantly recognized that the scope of speed the kid displayed was that of a weak child.

His fist t my palm, and I held it before shaking it like a greeting.

The kid giggled, and I did too.

"Alright, you can’t use the power from before, but you are still super strong," I complinted, and Ren looked proud enough.

Well, what exactly had happened in that place had taken on much clearer shapes because of this little test.

I looked up and saw an unexpected guest joining us in the backyard, coming forward on trembling legs while scratching her ulcer-riddled skin.

Jeyjey’s olive eyes were still the sa color as before, but that was it for the similarities to the ti we t her.

Her skin had really turned catastrophic, her hair had thinned excessively, she had lost weight, and I would have asked myself if my grandmother had refused to provide dical care or food if she didn’t have a little plaster on her arm that showed she had received an infusion not long ago.

Jeyjey ca closer to us, weakly but determinedly, halting for a mont when she saw bloody Kitty as if she were shocked and scared, before eventually continuing to make her way to the Hollywood swing.

Henry emitted moderate killing intent, while the kid ignored her and concentrated back on the drawing in his hands, and I asked myself what she was doing here after all the ti I hadn’t gotten a glimpse of her, with the exception of when hell broke loose because of the zombies.

"Help ..." She eventually broke down before us, falling on her knees.

"What do you want?" Henry asked icily before I could.

Jeyjey glanced at him only for a second before her eyes steered back at .

"Sebastian, help find him..."

When was the last ti I had seen Baggy Jeans? I don’t even rember.

I leaned forward and held my hand out, and while Henry groaned in annoyance, he hugged tightly as he knew what I was about to do.

I touched Jeyjey’s outstretched hand and flipped the coin, not to find Baggy Jeans, as she apparently didn’t have a clue herself, but to find out what the hell had happened to her overall.

Back of my hand; gold; correct past of Jeyjey.

Eyes, ears, and heart uncovered.

"I DON’T WANT IT! I DON’T WANT IT ANYMORE!" I scream high-pitched, having had enough of all this.

I bang my hands against the glass separating my small room from the rest of the laboratory while I ignore the dark figure behind it that wasn’t there.

A woman steps in front of , her dark brown hair bound in a high ponytail and a way too obviously drawn beauty mark on her chin.

"Jejyey. Look at this." She takes sothing out of her white coat, a paper, and after unfolding it, she presses it against the glass for to see.

"That is your signature, no?"

I stare at the docunt I had signed, again cursing myself just like I do every ti she shows it to .

"You agreed to the experint; you signed together with your boyfriend, no?"

"Please... I didn’t know it would be this... I didn’t know!"

I hadn’t seen Sebastian since we ca here, and the way he was back then... He didn’t talk; it was apparent that he had had an operation on the brain. He looked just like a vegetable, a remnant from the other world’s laboratory we had been in.

I only signed because they told us there was a way for him to get better.

"No?" The woman insists.

"Please..." I slide down the glass I had just thumped against and am reduced to a crying ss.

I can hear voices from the other cells, although I don’t see them, but none of them belong to Sebastian.

"CAN YOU STOP THE CONSTANT CRYING?" Soone yells.

"Get it together; it isn’t so bad!"

"We are safer here than anywhere else!"

"You want to go back to the laboratory? There it was really bad!"

The woman with the beauty mark smiles good-naturedly at the support of my fellow prisoners as my despair thickens rapidly.

I cry silently, but then I look to my side at the small lid in the wall that had opened before.

I can’t stop myself anymore; I take the injection as if under a spell, as my whole body thirsts for the only way to make feel better.

I take it and inject it into the tube in my arm.

I inject it and hear a sound I can’t categorize played inside my glass cell, and the little sound itself already gives imnse satisfaction.

Then the drug works; my body lightens, and the colors beco visible.

–The colors that taste the most delicious and sound just as varied as they are.

A composition of all senses, which wasn’t usually accessible.

And then, I feel as if my body is sucked in before being spat out, sucked in and spat out, as if I am soone else, sowhere else, but my physical body doesn’t move.

It feels as if I am traveling, but I am not, and the ups, downs, turns, and twists make woozy.

Yet, these colors always accompany on my way, and every ti I graze them, I hear them ring like little bells, the sounds helping differentiate between what it was I was tasting, touching, and feeling.

So light, and so present.

What I wanted to say before was, ’I didn’t know it would be this... beautiful.’

Because the more ecstatic the trip is, the more miserable the reality becos.
