"Skewers... skewers... whew..."
In his sleep, Li Wei muttered unconsciously and even made a motion of skewering at with his hand.
Feng Haoyu was still awake, lying in the room staring straight at the ceiling.
His hands, though resting under his head, were still trembling slightly.
Thinking about how exhausted he and Li Wei were that afternoon, he couldn’t help but laugh.
"Why are you giggling in the middle of the night instead of sleeping? Aren’t you tired enough from the day?"
Li Wei didn’t know when he woke up, but upon hearing Feng Haoyu’s laugh, he couldn’t help but tease him.
Feng Haoyu shuddered at the thought of the scene during the day.
They couldn’t keep up; they absolutely couldn’t keep up!
Don’t be fooled by Boss Wang grilling alone, he was lightning fast. In less than a minute and a half, he could grill 100 skewers; in three minutes, he would use up what they took 20 minutes to prepare. Then, a large crowd of custors would eagerly watch them skewer, making them incredibly nervous.
Feng Haoyu didn’t answer Li Wei’s question but suddenly sat up, his eyes sparkling as he stared at Li Wei and asked, "Li Wei, do you think we could beco apprentices to Boss Wang?"
Li Wei was taken aback, "Beco apprentices? What do you an?"
Feng Haoyu said, "You know Boss Wang, he usually doesn’t stay in one place for more than a week, but today you saw how popular he was. Do you think there’s a chance we can ask him to teach us the art of grilling, so when he leaves, we can start our own business back ho?"
Li Wei was sowhat shocked, "When did you co up with this idea? What about our jobs?"
"Pfft, those lousy jobs? We can quit anyti. We’ve been in Beijing a while now, do you feel at ho there?"
Li Wei thought for a mont and said, "Not at all. I feel like they’re always pushing out outsiders. Given our situation, it seems like we’d never be able to settle down there."
"Exactly. Honestly, I don’t like living in Beijing either—too stressful and fast-paced. n are worked to the bone, and won are worked like n. I’ve wanted to co back for a long ti, but once back, I don’t know what to do."
Li Wei nodded, "So you want to learn so skills from Boss Wang?"
Feng Haoyu nodded vigorously, "We might not be good at anything else, but I think we can handle grilling skewers. If we can learn at least half of Boss Wang’s skills, I think we’ll succeed."
Li Wei was tempted, "So you’re planning to keep doing this after Boss Wang leaves?"
Feng Haoyu shook his head, "We’ll go back to Zibo. The rent and prices here are too high; it’s not suitable for starting a business. It’s better to return ho, where we can start with much lower investnt, like Grandpa Zhao’s barbecue place. What do you think?"
Li Wei was getting excited now, thinking Feng Haoyu’s idea was good: "I think it’s a good idea, but I’m not sure Boss Wang will agree to teach us?"
"Why don’t you ask him tomorrow?"
"You ask... I’m a bit embarrassed."
"I’m embarrassed too..."
"Rock-paper-scissors, the loser asks!"
Li Wei, seeing that he had chosen rock and lost to Feng Haoyu’s paper, was quite annoyed.
"I ant to choose scissors; if only my fingers weren’t so sore from all the skewering, I would have won."
Feng Haoyu chuckled, "You clenched your fist all day making skewers, so I knew you’d probably choose rock sooner or later. Tomorrow, you’ll ask!"
Li Wei retorted, "Fine, I’ll ask, but even if Boss Wang agrees to teach us, I’m not teaming up with you."
Feng Haoyu was puzzled, "Why?"
Li Wei declared confidently, "I want to go solo. Then we can see who does better. If you don’t do well, I’ll let you co work for . I’ve even thought of a na for my skewer shop: Fresh Daily, using the freshest ingredients just like Boss Wang! I refuse to believe I can’t make money!"
Making money, huh.
Feng Haoyu had just calculated Wang Fan’s earnings today and was frankly envious beyond words.
The skewers were all made by the two of them, so he had a count. 3,000 skewers in the morning, roughly another 3,000 in the afternoon. Even calculating the cost of each skewer at 3 yuan, the net profit would be at least 12,000!
And that’s just the skewers. The profit from skewers alone was more than their combined monthly salary.
The real lucrative part, however, was the potato slices and napa cabbage.
A portion of potato slices was indeed cheap, but a single potato could be sliced into over 20 pieces—how much does one potato cost?
And the napa cabbage, a bag at most costs 5 yuan, could make three servings of garlic napa cabbage. Even considering the expensive garlic, it was still at least a 50% profit. How much did they sell today?
It’s too daunting to think; even thinking about it makes one drool uncontrollably!
"Boss Wang sure knows how to make money—I’m seriously envious..."
Li Wei was also envious, "I think Boss Wang made at least 10,000 yuan today, more than my two-month salary."
Feng Haoyu scoffed, "With your accounting skills, you think you can run a shop? You’ll lose your shirt! Not just 10,000—I calculated at the very least 20,000 or even close to 30,000."
"What?! Are you serious? If I could earn that, I’d have a big Benz and a big house in no ti!"
"Yeah, buying a car in a month and a house in three isn’t a dream."
"Damn. Co what may, I’ll beco an apprentice tomorrow. Even if my head has to be smashed in, I’m going to make him teach !"
"If you get rich, don’t forget !"
"Don’t worry, I’ll definitely hire you to skewer for ."
"Get lost; I want to be the boss."
"I’m the boss; you can be the boss’s lady at most."
"Get lost. I knew you were up to no good with . I’ll destroy your tools of cri right now!"
"Ugh, if they’re destroyed, I guess being the boss’s lady isn’t bad..."
...
At 8 a.m., Wang Fan headed up the hill, his working hours set from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Wang Fan looked at the two panda-eyed guys in front of him, a bit embarrassed, and asked, "Did you not get enough rest because you were too tired yesterday? Want a raise?"
Li Wei and Feng Haoyu quickly shook their heads, "It’s enough, it’s enough. Anyone who says 1,000 yuan a day isn’t enough deserves a beating. Mainly we’re too excited."
Wang Fan found it strange; what’s so exciting about skewering? It was exhausting enough to die for.
Li Wei suddenly beca a bit evasive, acting shy like a quail.
Feng Haoyu nudged Li Wei in the side, urging him to speak up. But Li Wei didn’t know where to start.
Wang Fan noticed sothing was off and directly asked, "Is there sothing you want to say to ? Too tired and don’t want to work anymore?"
Co to think of it, skewering until your hands are about to beco a whirlwind—if it were him, he’d definitely quit.
Li Wei got anxious when he heard this; how could they not work anymore?
In his panic, he blurted out, "It’s not that we don’t want to work anymore. We want to make you our master!"
Huh?
Wang Fan and Feng Haoyu were shocked, staring at Li Wei.
Li Wei realized he misspoke and quickly corrected himself, "Oops, not you making us your masters—it’s us wanting to be your apprentices!"
