"Dinner’s ready!"
"Young folks, line up to get your als."
The elderly gentlen seed noticeably different from yesterday; they were no longer so lifeless, and their shouts were now full of energy.
The sowhat gloomy people in the tents couldn’t help but smile upon hearing that dinner was ready.
In general, flood-prone areas have many dedicated shelters, and temporary shelters can also be set up in the short term. However, izhou hadn’t experienced such a major flood in decades, so resources here were insufficient.
The less severely affected counties still had houses to stay in. Here, only temporary shelters like this were available. It could be said that, apart from those yet to be rescued, these people had the worst living conditions. After all, a tent can’t compare to a house, and these people were certainly experiencing so psychological disparity.
But to be honest, the als are really delicious. In the past, even restaurant als in the city weren’t this tasty. The thought of having such high-quality als made life seem not so hard.
"Co on, let’s eat!"
"I’ve been looking forward to this al all day. Yesterday’s pork ribs were genuinely delicious."
"I just saw them washing cabbage. Today’s al might be a bit plain."
"Hey, having a hot al is already good. People who ca yesterday said most places are without water and electricity, stuck eating bread without even a sip of hot water."
"True, although the living conditions are poor, at least we eat well. Let’s go eat, and in the afternoon, see where we can help. Hopefully, this darn flood passes quickly."
"Brother Cheng, is this food donated by our fire brigade?"
Wang Fan called so people over to carry the big pot while casually asking.
Cheng Dong laughed and said, "No, the city has ergency reserves. It’s all issued by the city, and so were donated by big enterprises and distributed to us."
"Ding, donation condition triggered, food in the pot increased by 100%."
Wang Fan had one hand on one of the pot’s handles, and with full exertion, he could lift a small portion. When the notification sounded, his hand suddenly felt heavier.
In his heart, Wang Fan couldn’t help but praise his ho system, noting how casually the condition was triggered.
"Co on, Brother Cheng, you guys give a hand and help scoop these dishes into bowls so I can start on the next pot."
Cheng Dong and others paused their work, each taking a large tal spoon and coming over. Wang Fan lifted the lid, and an incredibly rich aroma wafted out.
They all couldn’t help but look into the pot and then gasped together.
What the heck, are you sure these dishes are fit for a big pot al?!
If this is a big pot al, then what were we cooking before?!
The cabbage, pork belly, vermicelli, and peppers in the pot seed entangled, yet each had a distinct color.
The cabbage was cooked but not mushy, showing a semi-transparent jade color. The vermicelli had absorbed all the broth, becoming crystal clear and emitting an attractive reddish-brown glow, the lean part of the pork was rosy, and the fat part was glistening. The red peppers added a unique variation to the stew.
The multiplicity of ingredients in the pot appeared chaotic yet orderly, especially when paired with the enchanting aroma filling the nose, making one’s mouth water imdiately.
"Wow, Brother Wang, you really are a master from the Northeast! Turning this pork and cabbage stew into a work of art!"
"My goodness, with stew like this, our friends at the police station next door will be green with envy!"
"Nothing more to say, just one word—impressed!"
Cheng Dong and the others were generous with their complints, each speaking more earnestly than the last.
As soon as the lid was lifted, the steam rising from the pot was so intense that I almost thought gourt foods had fallen from the sky!
They refrained from slurping the vermicelli and kept scooping dishes into bowls non-stop, yet the pot didn’t seem to diminish at all.
Cheng Dong looked puzzled, "Does this big pot really hold that much? The two big pots we served are enough for four or five hundred people, yet it hardly seems reduced."
Li Tian shrugged, "Maybe this kind of big pot can just hold a lot; we’ve never used such a big one before, so who knows how much it can hold."
Cheng Dong guessed this was reasonable as they had effectively poured two big pots into one, which might be why it could hold more.
Wang Fan returned to the RV, where rice and stead buns were being cooked. The buns were delivered earlier that morning as so people weren’t accustod to rice.
He played a recording on his phone, the familiar notification sounded again.
Wang Fan even suspected that the system wanted to double it from the start, but was just held back by a small rule restriction; otherwise, eting the conditions wouldn’t be that simple.
Zhuo Qianqian kept smiling as she served everyone, offering a choice of rice or a stead bun, alongside a bowl of pork and cabbage stew.
The elderly, won, and children were still prioritized, needing no supervision or organization. This was sothing deeply ingrained in every Huaxia person’s DNA.
People who were familiar or unfamiliar gathered, sitting or squatting or standing, holding their steaming hot als and chatting while savoring them.
Though few were talking, the slurping sounds from indulging in vermicelli were quite loud.
Zhong Pingi held a bowl larger than her head, continuously using her chopsticks to deliver food to her mouth.
The refreshing cabbage emitted a rich, fresh aroma, lded with a hearty atiness from the broth.
The soft texture still retained a bit of crunch. For the first ti, she realized that vegetables could taste this good; before, she would have been looking forward to at dishes only.
The vermicelli was also superbly delicious, its slippery texture reminiscent of the jelly her mom brought back from the city, slurped into the mouth in a mouthful.
The essence of the broth was absorbed into the vermicelli, making it taste possibly even better than the at.
With a chopstick, she picked up so cabbage, vermicelli, and a thick piece of pork belly, opened her mouth wide, and inhaled. The soft pork, chewy vermicelli, and crisp cabbage harmonized together perfectly. The fragrant and slightly sweet flavor, along with the mild spiciness of the Er Jingtiao Peppers, elevated the aroma to new heights. The rich cycling of flavors and textures made it hard to stop eating; all she wanted was to keep devouring the big bowl in front of her.
"This young man’s cooking skills are truly outstanding. To have such a delicious dish in my lifeti, I could die without regrets."
"Hahaha, are you saying we should thank the flood? If it hadn’t co, that young man might not have been here."
"I didn’t say that; our hos are still soaking in water, so how could I have such thoughts?"
"Although, I do feel like this al does make the flood seem less terrifying. Every ti I eat, I feel warm all over."
