The Purge Squad headquarters occupied a three-story spire roughly the size of a residential building in the northeastern sector of the lower city. This location had previously been the territory of what locals called a "social vitality organization", essentially a cri boss's domain. After investigating public sentint and concluding their assessnt, the Purge Squad secured a writ from the city hall to take over the property, simultaneously disbanding the aforentioned organization.
Naturally, being forcibly dissolved without explanation was hard to accept.
But that posed no problem!
Most Purge Squad mbers held divine office, and they excelled at persuading the stubborn through eloquent words and fists the size of cooking pots.
Lately, the headquarters frequently echoed with sounds resembling fists striking flesh and what seed like the pained sobs of forr gang mbers. Clearly, the clergy’s persuasion thods were highly effective, as the area around the Purge Squad had beco a no-go zone for gangs.
After all, the clergy didn’t care which gang you belonged to.
A single cast of Detect Evil was enough, if you glowed red, the clergy would instinctively stop you for a loving re-education.
It was debatable whether this education worked, but in practice, public order in the lower city had improved significantly...
A graceful figure draped in a black veil-robe moved through the shadows of the lower city’s buildings. Due to Southwind Province’s northern location, the sky darkened visibly after noon. By around five in the afternoon, bright light had faded, leaving only a faint afterglow.
Almost no one noticed Lady Maria’s movents. Those who occasionally glimpsed her would dismiss the inconspicuous black figure due to cognitive interference.
For those without supernatural abilities, even if Maria appeared before them, they would forget her instantly, even after conversing.
This power, which acted directly on conceptual perception, was truly remarkable.
It was unclear which righteous deity had crafted this black veil-robe. If she could replicate its creation thod, it would greatly benefit Maria’s plans to establish one of the Purge’s positions, it seed tailor-made for those who sought secrets!
The Purge Squad currently had fifteen mbers.
Seven were scattered across Torrent City and nearby towns for observation and liaison, while the rest remained in the city. The headquarters housed only four, including the Fla Warrior Phoenix, Liline, and Arthur. The Purge Squad also served another role: the ard force of the Temple Foundation.
This foundation was co-founded by Harvett and Phoenix, modeled after the recent practices of individuals who were both believers and wealthy rchants.
According to Phoenix, before leaving Luminous Cathedral, he was entrusted by an anonymous high-ranking church official to take a portion of the wealth, treasures, and sealed supernatural resources from Torrent City’s cathedral. Rather than letting these items decay in storage, it was better to put them to use.
The foundation beca the ideal solution.
When registering with the Temple Foundation, Lady Maria also made a proposal, subtly revealing so information about Chaos to Phoenix.
The Temple Foundation would later beco an organization designated to provide funding and basic personnel support for sealing certain troubleso Chaos Pollutants or Chaos Lifeforms.
One as the spear, the other as the shield.
This general frawork of a specialized organization was nearly sufficient to deal with Chaos and Old God-related threats across the first four fractured versions. Especially in the early versions when the righteous gods lacked experience, they were quite willing to tolerate such an organization within acceptable limits. Cultivating these experienced anti-Chaos and anti-Old God forces would beco vital for humanity's survival!
Maria essentially leveraged her foresight to ride the crest of the era's wave.
Only one person stood guard at the warband headquarters entrance.
He huddled in the shadows by the wall near the door, his seemingly casual eyes scanning outward. The mont he spotted Maria's silhouette shrouded in black robes, his remarkably clear eyes sharpened instantly. While most would instinctively overlook the obscuring effects, this divine office holder nad Adam directly and precisely locked onto Maria.
"Good day, Adam. Is Phoenix still inside?"
"Good day, Sister Maria. Lord Phoenix has remained at headquarters. Thank you for all you've done." Habitually addressing her as sister, this divine office holder also ca from Luminous Cathedral and knew Maria well.
His eyes were extraordinarily distinctive, said to be capable of replicating similar abilities to so degree.
Adam felt deeply grateful for everything Lady Maria had accomplished.
Without her, many divine office holders of the Sun God lineage who refused to drift with the tide would likely have t unfortunate ends. Currently, Lady Maria commanded at least Respect-level prestige within the warband and foundation, while among a small circle of inford individuals she had achieved Worship status for her unfailing strategic successes.
"With nothing to give." Maria lightly tapped her fist over her heart in the Warband Salute.
"With nothing to give, yet offering this body!"
Adam had loved this ritual prayer since first hearing it. he increasingly felt power surging from his core - power nad courage, nad conviction, nad greatness, renad loyalty!

Second-floor office at headquarters.
When Maria entered, Phoenix and Priest Arthur were bent over massive desks compiling scrolls, reference materials covering every surface.
The well-endowed charming Lady Liline was notably absent.
Without needing to ask, Lady Maria knew this lady, who spent her days either admiring her peerless beauty in small mirrors or swaying her ample bosom while pestering Priest Arthur, had likely wandered off to so uptown salon or banquet.
Such was the unrestrained nature of Fairy Sect divine office holders.
"Phoenix, Arthur, good day." After offering this greeting, Maria removed her black gauze robe and hung it on the coat rack. Her arrival suddenly infused the dim room with a captivating radiance.
"Good day, Maria. You've finally arrived. It seems those deranged fools will fail tonight after all." Phoenix rubbed his tired eyes and hands.
As for Priest Arthur, everyone had grown accustod to his silent, expressionless deanor.
"Activate the Contact Spell. Summon all battle group mbers who can return in ti tonight." Maria unceremoniously took the head seat, instantly transforming into a female marshal commanding her troops.
"War is coming."
