Bang!

Following Shane's instructions, Stark picked up the huge rock, put all his strength into it, and hurled it more than twenty ters away.

The rock landed in the swamp and slowly began to sink.

Shane estimated the distance. Mm, that should be enough.

"Frieren, you carry Sein. Fern, you carry . Stark, use the rock for a double jump. Rember, we don't know what's inside the cave. Once we enter, everyone stays alert."

After he finished speaking, the two mages followed Shane's instructions, each grabbing their assigned target before flying into the air.

Stark, who had been left at the edge of the swamp, stared at Shane with a blank look and pointed at himself.

"You want to jump into the cave by myself…?"

"The warrior takes the lead. Isn't that the tradition in adventure stories?"

"That doesn't an you can make jump down there alone! Who knows what's waiting below!"

Stark's eyes were full of terror.

Dangling in midair, Shane thought about it. Fair enough. This silly kid didn't have much adventuring experience. If he jumped down and ran into so monster or demon, he might burst into tears on the spot.

"Fine. Then jump above the cave, and Sein and I will catch you."

As he spoke, he and Sein beside him both reached out their hands.

Seeing this, Stark imdiately broke into a happy expression.

Shane: "..."

This silly kid was way too easy to coax.

Bang!

Bang!

Using the large rock thrown into the swamp, Stark perford a double jump and arrived directly above the cave. Sein and Shane, hanging in midair, each caught one of his arms.

At the sa ti, the two mages' [Flight Magic] barely endured the weight of the three people below them, and the five of them began slowly descending into the pitch-black cave.

The cave was indeed very deep, just as Frieren had said.

None of them could see where the bottom was.

As they continued falling, the cave, which had originally been only a little over two ters wide, gradually opened up. The farther down they went, the wider it beca. At a glance, it seed to be more than several dozen ters across.

Scattered red specks of light also began appearing on the cave walls in the distance.

Were they ores?

Shane was a little puzzled.

But that confusion did not last long.

Rustle, rustle.

The sound of countless crawling things skittering over the stone walls suddenly rang out. The red specks of light they had just seen multiplied dozens of tis in an instant. Imdiately after, those tiny lights began moving downward as well, following their descent.

The sight was beautiful, yet eerie.

Shane could feel Fern's tension. The young girl's hands were trembling.

"Anything that can live in a dark cave like this is either a bat, a snake, or so kind of insect or rat. They're all just small things. Don't be afraid."

As if to refute Shane's words—

Pfft!

From the wall on their left, a white spiderweb the size of a pot lid suddenly shot out toward them.

Frieren quickly adjusted her position. The five of them swayed violently and barely managed to dodge.

Unfortunately, the appearance of that spiderweb seed to blow the horn of attack for all the tiny lights.

Pfft, pfft, pfft!

An overwhelming storm of spiderwebs ca shooting from the surrounding walls.

Frieren and Fern did their best to maneuver and avoid them, but it was useless.

There were too many webs. In an instant, everyone's bodies were covered. The two mages' movents were obstructed, and the five-person formation instantly lost its balance. All of them plumted straight down.

"Grab the person beside you."

Before Shane could even finish his warning—

Bang!

The group crashed onto a massive spiderweb.

The smaller webs that had stuck to their bodies fused with the huge web beneath them, firmly fixing the group in place. The force of their fall tugged at the giant web, sending it bouncing several ters upward before it began shaking up and down repeatedly, only finally stopping after a while.

As the shaking of the web ca to an end, countless flickering red lights gathered from all directions.

Once they drew close enough, Shane finally saw them clearly.

Those tiny lights were actually spiders, each one as large as a calf.

"What do we do now…?"

Stark's frightened voice ca from beside him.

The young man was tearing at the spider silk on his body, but the more he pulled, the tighter the silk stuck together.

Sein was not doing any better. His entire body was wrapped in spiderwebs.

Fern, beside them, struggled to summon her staff, but another web imdiately shot over, sticking both her hands and her staff to the giant web.

The surrounding spiders drew closer and closer. The situation was critical.

Frieren swept her expressionless gaze around their surroundings, then looked at Shane.

"Shane."

The elven girl rely called his na and said nothing more.

But the two of them already had an unspoken understanding. Shane knew very well that Frieren was leaving the task of breaking through this situation to him.

"Mm."

He reached out and worked hard to draw the sword at his waist. Although the spider silk stopped him halfway through, a half-drawn sword was still usable.

[Blade Vortex (Blue/Rare)]: Creates a ring of ghostly blades that instantly clears your surroundings.

Attribute successfully activated.

In an instant, a ring of ghostly blades appeared out of thin air, spinning and slicing around him. The spider silk stuck to his body was cut apart in a flash.

Swish!

Freed from his restraints, Shane fully drew his longsword. [Dual Blade Style · Shadow Kill] activated, and he instantly appeared beside Fern.

His sword flashed in his hand, and the spider silk trapping Fern was successfully severed.

"Attack."

One word left his mouth.

Fern's staff lit up, and countless dense magical formulas shone throughout the cave.

Bang, bang, bang!

The young girl transford into a magical machine gun. Countless beams of magic struck the swarming spiders, illuminating the dark cave as bright as day.

The group of spiders closest to them instantly turned into magical particles.

With just one person, she suppressed the thousands upon thousands of little spiders inside the cave.

With the five of them at the center, the several dozen ters around them instantly beca a forbidden zone.

Shane let out a slight breath of relief, then turned around and "untied" Frieren and Sein as well.

Sein looked at Fern, who seed like a goddess of slaughter, his expression filled with shock.

"What… what kind of magic is that…?"

"[Basic Offensive Magic]."

"Of course I know it's Basic Offensive Magic. What I an is, how can there be a mage like that? Isn't she way too terrifying…?"

Hearing Sein's praise, Shane and Frieren exchanged a glance and smiled.

Sein noticed the smugness on their faces and slowly frowned.

"Don't tell the two of you trained her…"

Shane proudly lifted his chin.

"Mm! Mmmph, mmmph mmmph!"

Just as Shane was basking in his pride, muffled struggling sounds ca from behind the three of them.

Shane yelped, only then rembering that Stark had not been untied yet!

Thanks to Fern's full-power barrage, all the small spiders were suppressed on the walls beyond the giant web.

Shane took this chance to begin observing the entire cave.

Because of the bright light produced by the magical beams, they could see that the surrounding cave walls were covered in countless densely packed holes. They were probably the nests of these small spiders.

Beyond those holes, there was also an enormous oval-shaped opening, roughly five or six ters tall.

Frieren was observing their surroundings as well, just like him.

"Ants and spiders are both species with group hierarchies. Their colonies usually have an ant queen or a spider mother. That might be the passage leading to the spider mother's chamber."

Shane nodded. That was very possible.

Suddenly—

A strand of spider silk as thick as the mouth of a bowl shot out from that enormous oval-shaped opening.

The spider silk seed alive. It bent and twisted, skillfully avoiding all of Fern's magical attacks as it rushed straight toward them.

Frieren imdiately raised [Defensive Magic].

Whoosh!

The spider silk was extrely fast. It nimbly bypassed the magical shield and wrapped around Fern's waist.

Everything happened too suddenly.

By the ti everyone realized what had happened, Fern had already been dragged into that oval-shaped opening!
