Gu Xi’s injury wasn’t serious.
If she wished, she could have instantly used her healing ability to make the wound good as new.
But she did nothing.
Because she wasn’t sure if the day’s events were just an accident or... another spur-of-the-mont test from certain individuals.
Beside her, Shen Yue was frantic when he saw her injury. Disregarding the danger of backlash from his powers, a purple light flashed deep in his eyes as he instantly pushed his ability to its absolute limit.
Qi Xiang had also rushed over. She held Gu Xi in her arms, her face pale with anxiety as she bandaged the wound.
’How did I suddenly bump into Gu Xi like that?’
Qi Xiang was panicking. She instinctively assud the spike had been ant for her, and Gu Xi had only been hit because she’d been unlucky enough to take the blow in her place.
Mr. Qian’s face was grim as well.
Fortunately, his n had already arrived and quickly brought the situation under control.
"Miss Gu, are you alright?" Mr. Qian wrung his hands in agitation. ’What a ss! This young woman grew half a year’s worth of grain for us, and I let her get injured on my own turf?’
’Never mind how my superiors will chew out for this; I feel terrible enough as it is. I won’t be able to hold my head high in front of the other units after this.’
Gu Xi silently retracted the spiritual power she had spread across the area and slowly shook her head. "I’m fine. It’s just a minor injury."

Seeing Mr. Qian’s worried expression, Gu Xi thought for a mont before offering a reminder. "Mr. Qian, I suggest you have soone conduct a detailed inspection of the remaining bulls as soon as possible. And the Crystal Cores from these Flying Bulls... it would be best if you had soone collect them carefully..."
Mr. Qian was no fool.
He had vaguely heard about the No. 003 Grand Canyon incident.
’Perhaps the mutation of that bull was just the beginning?’
"Miss Gu, you can rest assured on that front. I’ve already arranged for specialists to co over. As for your injury..." He glanced at Qi Xiang’s slightly clumsy bandaging and said hesitantly, "Why don’t I take you to the infirmary to get it looked at?"
Gu Xi considered it for a mont, then agreed. "Thank you for the trouble."
From the NX1984 incident, to the private farm outside the South City base, to the No. 003 Grand Canyon incident a few days ago, and now today’s events—it all seed to point to one thing: soone was after the energy Crystal Cores.
But Gu Xi couldn’t help but feel that a crucial thread was still missing.
She wanted to stay and observe, and her injury was the perfect excuse to conduct another test of her own.
Besides, the events of the day were, in fact, a little too strange.
These Flying Bulls couldn’t have mutated so suddenly; the trigger must have been planted long ago. Her visit, on the other hand, was a last-minute decision from the previous night, so it was unlikely the other party had received advance notice.
So, Gu Xi guessed that soone had tampered with the bulls long ago but hadn’t triggered it until now.
When she had arrived that morning, it was her first ti seeing these Flying Bulls, so she hadn’t noticed anything amiss.
But her arrival must have made them change their minds, causing them to hastily trigger the incident.
They were definitely trying to use this opportunity to test sothing.
As it happened, that was exactly what Gu Xi wanted, too.

Mr. Qian brought them to the dical wing, handed them over to the person in charge, and then left in a hurry.
As the group headed toward a treatnt room in the back, they passed through the main hall and ran into Jian Yi, who was just about to leave for the day.
"Mr. Liu, what’s going on?" Jian Yi’s eyes swept over Gu Xi. She was a distressing sight, half-covered in blood, her face pale and weak.
"There was an incident in the livestock area," Mr. Liu explained briefly. "Since you’re here, I’ll leave her in your hands, Mr. Jian."
Jian Yi was their best surgeon, popularly known as Jian Yidao.
Jian Yi nodded and glanced at the three of them. "Follow ."
Once in his office, Jian Yi directed Shen Yue and Qi Xiang to help Gu Xi into the inner examination room.
After a preliminary examination, Jian Yi stared down at Gu Xi’s injured shoulder, his brow furrowed. "How did she get this injury? The wound is quite deep. It’ll probably need a few stitches."
The look Shen Yue gave him instantly soured. "Just a few stitches? Aren’t you going to take out the foreign object inside?" ’Where did they find this quack doctor? He seems completely unreliable.’
’He’d seen that long, sharp spike pierce Gu Xi’s shoulder with his own eyes!’
"Foreign object?" Jian Yi raised an eyebrow in surprise. He perford another check before looking up at Shen Yue to confirm, "The wound is deep, but I’m certain there’s no foreign object inside..."
"How is that possible?" Qi Xiang and Shen Yue exclaid in unison.
Jian Yi’s brow furrowed slightly. He cast a subtle sideways glance at the young woman, who had been quiet and looked exceptionally weak, then switched on a nearby machine.
The final scan confird it: there was no foreign object in Gu Xi’s shoulder.
Jian Yi looked at the other two.
Qi Xiang and Shen Yue exchanged a look. ’Where did the spike that pierced Gu Xi’s shoulder go?’
Jian Yi glanced at Gu Xi and began to prepare for the sutures.
He didn’t ask about the disappearing object. After all, in the apocalypse, anything was possible.
After treating Gu Xi’s wound, Jian Yi straightened up and offered a sincere recomndation. "Although I don’t know why the foreign object you ntioned suddenly disappeared, given the circumstances, I’d suggest getting a vaccination."
Gu Xi agreed.
Jian Yi opened his personal terminal and submitted a request for the vaccine.
A nurse delivered it shortly after.
Shen Yue noticed that along with the vaccine, there was also a syringe of serum.
Jian Yi took the syringe and gestured for Gu Xi to extend her arm. "You’re in luck, young lady. This is a rare drug. Our entire garrison only has a few doses, and you happen to be here just a few days after a new batch arrived..."
"Will there be any side effects?" Qi Xiang asked from the side.
Jian Yi smiled and explained, "Well, dicine is an exact science. Nothing is ever 100 percent guaranteed. Depending on a person’s constitution, there could be different reactions..."
The mont the vaccine entered her system, Gu Xi knew it had been tampered with.
She lowered her gaze slightly, her expression showing no trace of anything unusual.
Jian Yi withdrew the needle and pressed a cotton ball to Gu Xi’s shoulder. "...There. However, I’d personally recomnd that you stay for a couple of days of observation..."
"Is sothing wrong?" Shen Yue asked, frowning instinctively.
"Not at all." Jian Yi tossed the syringe into a dical waste bin and pulled off his gloves. "But animal mutations introduce a degree of uncertainty. In these situations, we generally recomnd a few days of observation..."
Shen Yue glanced at Gu Xi. Her face was deathly pale, and she leaned weakly against Qi Xiang’s shoulder, silent.
A thought struck Shen Yue. He looked up at the doctor. "Thank you for the trouble."
"You’re welco. It’s my duty."
Jian Yi was a busy man. After escorting Gu Xi’s group to a patient room, he gave a few brief instructions and quickly departed.
Once the door closed and they were alone, Shen Yue and Qi Xiang exchanged a glance, then turned in unison to face Gu Xi.
"Alright, Gu Xiaoxi. Out with it. What’s really going on?"
