Gu Xi was startled for a mont but nodded in agreent.
But Shen Yue didn’t move.
He was curled up sideways on the sofa by the window, head bowed as he idly fiddled with the lighter in his hand, as if he hadn’t heard a word Ye Nan said.
The warm glow from the crystal chandelier on the ceiling slanted across his face, bathing one half of his features in light while the other remained hidden in shadow, making him seem inscrutable.
Gu Xi raised a slight eyebrow.
’Shen Yue isn’t the type to be so oblivious...’
Just then, Ye Nan took a deep breath and walked over to Shen Yue. She lifted her chin slightly, trying her best to project an air of confidence. "Mr. Shen, could you please give us a mont alone?"
With a CLICK, Shen Yue snapped his lighter shut and lazily stood up. He clicked his tongue. "An order from Miss Ye. How could I dare to disobey?"
Ye Nan’s brow furrowed slightly as she watched Shen Yue push open the door to one of the suite’s bedrooms and stride inside.
She instinctively assud it was Gu Xi’s room, and her frown deepened.
"Miss Gu, you and Mr. Shen..." Ye Nan began hesitantly.
Gu Xi poured another cup of hot water and handed it to Ye Nan. "Miss Ye, feel free to speak your mind."
Ye Nan took it instinctively. The warmth of the water seeped through the paper cup into her hands, subconsciously easing her tension.
She lowered her head to take a sip, but her gaze couldn’t help but drift to Gu Xi. ’She doesn’t look like anything special, so why...’
Gu Xi raised a slight eyebrow. "Miss Ye?"
Ye Nan snapped back to reality as if startled, instinctively averting her gaze from Gu Xi’s.
Gu Xi was baffled.
Ye Nan kept her head lowered, cradling the cup in both hands and taking tiny sips of hot water. She would only occasionally glance up at Gu Xi, as if hoping she would be the one to break the silence.
But Gu Xi was clearly far more patient than she had anticipated.
The atmosphere in the room grew increasingly awkward.
Finally, as if she had co to a decision, Ye Nan set the empty cup down heavily on the coffee table. Clenching her fists, she looked up at the girl across from her.
"Miss Gu, I know this might be rude of to ask, but I have to know... how did you and Jun Han et?"
Gu Xi’s gaze casually swept over the cup Ye Nan had just set down.
’How did I et Ye Junhan? That’s a long story. It would have to start from when a certain soone showed up and destroyed my backup ability...’
But after a mont’s thought, Gu Xi decided to keep it short and stick to the truth. "Strictly speaking, Ye Junhan and I don’t know each other. We’ve just seen each other a few tis." ’We’ve barely even spoken.’
Ye Nan frowned slightly, her hands unconsciously fiddling with the paper cup. She didn’t say anything, and it was impossible to tell whether she believed Gu Xi or not.
Gu Xi watched her, surprised.
’Why do I get the feeling this girl is trying to say sothing more?’
In the vast living room, the two sat in silence. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
After a long mont, Ye Nan squeezed the paper cup in her hand, her face flushing red as if she were mortified.
"I see. I’m sorry, then. I misunderstood."
She shot a quick glance at Gu Xi, then abruptly stood up to leave. "Since Jun Han isn’t here, then I won’t disturb your rest," she said hastily, leaving the words hanging in the air.
After Ye Nan left, Gu Xi looked back, surprised, at the paper cup left on the coffee table.
Just then, a bedroom door opened from the inside. Shen Yue strolled out lazily and glanced toward the front door. "Her..." ’What was that all about? Did she really show up in the middle of the night to catch soone cheating?’
But Gu Xi suddenly said, "She’s being watched."
Shen Yue froze, then followed her gaze.
’A crushed paper cup?’
’The one Ye Nan left behind?’
Shen Yue’s brow furrowed slightly.
The next second, his expression changed. He strode over and picked up the cup.
Taped to the bottom was a small slip of paper, carefully folded into a tiny square.
Frowning, Shen Yue unfolded the slip of paper. On it were several groups of what appeared to be random numbers.
"What’s this?" Shen Yue flicked the small slip of paper and looked up at Gu Xi.
"It’s..." Gu Xi stared at the familiar handwriting on the note, montarily stunned. "A gift from an old friend."
She never would have expected that after so many years, Ye Xin would contact her like this.
Then she rembered that Zhou Jinyu had been the one to bring Ye Nan to the South City base, and her feelings grew complicated.
’Ye Xin and Zhou Jinyu? This ti, I wonder who is using whom.’
Shen Yue had clearly pieced sothing together as well.
He raised an eyebrow and waved the note. "So, Miss Ye’s visit tonight was really about this?" ’And here I thought she actually ca to catch soone cheating.’
’I didn’t expect this... Tsk, tonight has certainly been interesting.’
’Very interesting indeed.’
A smirk played on Shen Yue’s lips, and he let out a soft chuckle.
Gu Xi nodded. Thinking back on what Ye Nan had said, she couldn’t help but smile as well.
’Looks like a certain soone’s reputation is quite useful.’
’Not only does Qi Xiang use him as a tool all the ti, but now even that Ye Nan girl is doing it...’
’Thinking about it, the girl is actually quite clever. Her personality is just a bit... high-strung.’
’In that respect, she’s nothing like the Ye Xin I used to know.’
Gu Xi took the note from Shen Yue, walked straight to a nearby table, and pulled an old dictionary out of her space.
Shen Yue watched the dictionary appear out of thin air. It looked rather familiar, and he narrowed his eyes slightly.
He shot Gu Xi a surprised look.
Gu Xi offered no explanation, simply flipping through the dictionary and writing sothing on a separate sheet of paper.
Shen Yue raised an eyebrow and leaned in for a closer look. It seed Gu Xi was writing down several nas.
He scrutinized the list. He felt like he’d heard two of the nas sowhere before, but the others didn’t ring a bell at all.
Just then, Qi Xiang, finally unable to contain her curiosity, erged from her bedroom wrapped in a blanket.
Shen Yue glanced back at her, raising his eyebrows. "Well, well, has Miss Qi finally deigned to grace us with her presence?"
’As if he didn’t know. When Ye Nan ca over to "catch them in the act," Qi Xiang had deliberately hidden in her room. Wasn’t she just trying to let the misunderstanding fester?’
’Tsk.’
’Figures. None of these won are to be trifled with.’
Shen Yue shook his head.
Qi Xiang rolled her eyes at him, then sidled up next to Gu Xi. Staring at the paper on the table, she asked curiously, "What’s this?"
’Why does it feel like Gu Xiaoxi is accumulating more and more secrets? Now even Ye Nan is mixed up with her?’
Qi Xiang muttered sothing under her breath.
Gu Xi didn’t quite catch it. She kept her eyes lowered, staring at the nas on the paper for a long mont before calmly sweeping everything into her space.
Qi Xiang thought for a mont, then suddenly looked up at Shen Yue and unceremoniously showed him the door. "Mister Shen Yue, it’s getting very late, and we two ladies need our rest. Ti for you to go."
Shen Yue didn’t so much as budge, rely raising an eyebrow with a soft laugh. "Miss Qi, aren’t you a little quick to burn that bridge?" ’And who was it again that called over in the middle of the night?’
’Use and toss aside, is that it?’
’Not a chance.’
Qi Xiang rolled her eyes at him and retorted self-righteously, "You’re a grown man in the room of two young won in the middle of the night. You think that’s appropriate?"
Shen Yue leaned back and crossed his legs. "Perfectly appropriate. I’m playing the part of your chivalrous protector, am I not?"
Qi Xiang was speechless.
Just then, Shen Yue tapped the armrest of the sofa. Propping his chin in his hand, he suddenly asked, "So, where do you two think Ye Junhan went tonight?"
