The little green sprout obediently nuzzled Gu Xi’s fingertip. The next mont, it swelled dramatically and plunged into the patch of iridescently black mutant plants.

Ten minutes later, Gu Xi retracted her ability.

The patch of mutant plants, once iridescently black under the eerie moonlight, had now visibly returned to the colors plants were supposed to be.

But the little green sprout seed unsatisfied. After stripping this patch clean, it clearly wasn’t full and began eagerly eyeing the nearby mutant plants...

’So much energy!’

’Once I devour this whole area, I can level up.’

The little green sprout pleaded: ’Hungry. Food. Level up.’

But Gu Xi remained unmoved.

Raising an ability’s level is extrely difficult for an ordinary user. It requires not just a massive accumulation of power, but also talent, insight, and the right opportunity—not one can be missing.

But Gu Xi was different.

She was like a max-level expert starting over on a new account. She was simply retracing a path she’d walked before, so there were virtually no obstacles.

So Gu Xi wasn’t in a hurry. After all, this energy was just sitting here. It wasn’t going anywhere, and sooner or later, it would all be hers.

But the little green sprout was very anxious.

It began to circle her fingertip, constantly rubbing the two tender little leaves on its tip against the pad of her finger...

Its persistence brought a faint smile to Gu Xi’s lips. She raised a hand and poked the little sprout’s delicate tip. ’Be good. You’ll get to eat later.’

The little green sprout conceded grudgingly: ’...Alright, fine.’

「The night passed quickly.」

After daybreak, Wei Heng walked out of the container house and washed his face with cold water. He put the sweet potatoes on to steam, then boiled a pot of hot water.

Just as he was about to turn and wake Gu Xi up, he saw her walking slowly out of the mountain woods behind them.

Wei Heng paused. "Gu Xi, you’re up so early?" ’Where did she go so early in the morning?’ he wondered.

Gu Xi replied, "I went into the mountains for so morning exercise."

"Morning exercise?" Wei Heng’s gaze fell on her clothes, and he frowned slightly.

’These were the new clothes he’d just traded for her yesterday, but now they were damp and wrinkled, covered in dirt and grass. Was that even a rip across her back and shoulder?’

’What kind of morning exercise would do this?’

Gu Xi followed his gaze down to the new clothes she was wearing and... fell silent.

’She was used to a rough life of constant fighting. In battle, she only ever focused on the outco...’

Gu Xi sighed. Seeing that Wei Heng was still staring at her clothes, she shifted uncomfortably and straightened them out. "The morning dew is heavy. I slipped and fell during my exercises..."

"Ah, are you okay?" Wei Heng instantly grew tense, looking her over carefully from head to toe.

"I’m fine." Gu Xi shook her head and told the truth. "I’m an ability user, after all. I’m not that delicate."

Seeing Wei Heng’s hesitant expression, Gu Xi decided to change the subject. "Is there any hot water?" she asked.

Wei Heng saw that aside from her slightly pale face, she really didn’t look injured. Only then did he turn and pour a basin of hot water for her. Without letting her lift a finger, he brought it directly into her room.

"You go wash up and change. The sweet potatoes will be stead soon." Before leaving, he even thoughtfully closed the door for her.

’Her roommate really is a nice guy,’ Gu Xi thought.

After breakfast, Wei Heng rummaged around in his room and pulled out a bottle of black solution.

The staff at the camp had recomnded it to him yesterday when he went to trade for soil nutrient solution. They said it was a new herbicide from the research institute, one that could effectively inhibit the growth of certain wild mutant plants...

The price was reasonable, so Wei Heng bought a bottle.

His reasoning was that they were about to apply the nutrient solution to their land. If weeds imdiately shot up to snatch the nutrients from the soil, wouldn’t that be a waste of his solution?

That nutrient solution wasn’t cheap.

After studying the herbicide’s instructions for a while, Wei Heng grabbed a large wooden bucket and went outside. On the plots of land they had just cleared yesterday, sparse weeds were already starting to poke through.

There was no ti to lose.

Gu Xi saw this and was about to help, but Wei Heng adamantly refused. ’How could he let a girl do such strenuous work?’

Gu Xi was left speechless.

’It wasn’t the first ti Wei Heng had treated her like a delicate girl who needed to be cared for, but... how should she put it?’

’This... experience... was actually quite novel.’

Gu Xi looked around. Right now, she didn’t need to farm, and Wei Heng had taken care of the chores too. With absolutely nothing to do, Gu Xi decided to go back to her room and lie down for a while.
