Yang Zhen Gang did not ntion a word about what happened in the diation room. Xu Chun was right; if word got out, it would only embarrass him. Another crucial reason was that he had been scared by the beating. In the past, he was always the one hitting others, but today he was the one being hit. Xu Chun’s two slaps shattered his arrogance, and that heavy punch just now directly stirred up a deep-seated fear in him. He truly couldn’t beat the other person.

Huang Lide obediently packed up his things and moved out, repeatedly saying he wouldn’t hold it against young people. Although he didn’t know what happened in the diation room today, there was one thing he could be sure of: Yang Zhen Gang had definitely suffered a loss. This guy ca out visibly depressed, not saying a word, and no longer ntioned getting Xu Chun to change the water. He sheepishly changed the water himself.

Huang Lide found ti to visit the office of Vice Dean Yan Huaiyi, complaining that Xu Chun was full of hostility towards them and not getting along with the departnt colleagues. On their very first day, he was already speaking harshly, claiming he had never t such a vindictive young person.

Yan Huaiyi listened to his rant, sighed softly, and said, "Old Huang, don’t trouble with these trivial matters."

"You’re the vice dean. If not you, then who should I go to?"

"I didn’t arrange for you to go to the dical office. It was Dean Zhao’s decision for Xu Chun to temporarily oversee the dical office. I can’t overturn the boss’s decision."

"But he’s just a newcor at the hospital. What qualifies him to lead us?"

"You’d have to ask Dean Zhao, and besides, he hasn’t set out to lead you. You both went to the dical office to seek leadership on your own."

Huang Lide sighed, realizing he had co to the wrong person. Yan Huaiyi had no intention of taking any responsibility, and expecting him to stick his neck out was impossible.

Yan Huaiyi advised, "Old Huang, you don’t quite understand Xiaoxu yet. This young man is not simple." Speaking from experience; even he couldn’t handle Xu Chun, let alone expect Huang Lide to. As for that Yang Zhen Gang, he was just a brute. The two of them together couldn’t asure up to a finger of Xu Chun.

It’s easy to see clearly from the sidelines, but those involved in the situation are often muddled.

Huang Lide thought that Yan Huaiyi had already fallen out of favor, lacking both the responsibility and authority. The hottest vice dean at Changxing Hospital now was Gao Xinhua, but he didn’t have much of a relationship with him. It was said that Xu Chun entered Changxing through Gao Xinhua’s connections, while his own redeploynt from orthopedics was through Vice Dean Geng Wenxiu.

Huang Lide decided to seek out Geng Wenxiu.

Recently, Geng Wenxiu had shed the previous gloom of being sidelined and was getting back into the swing of things. As she beca successful, she started losing herself again, quickly reverting to her old arrogant ways.

When Huang Lide went to find Geng Wenxiu, she was scolding the finance director, and even standing outside the office, one could hear her sharp and high-pitched voice berating them.

Geng Wenxiu was likely the least favored among all the vice deans. Before leaving, Gu Houyi had exiled her, and many in the hospital had applauded it, though they all understood that she would be back sooner or later, given her background.

Huang Lide’s wife and Geng Wenxiu were junior high school classmates, and Geng Wenxiu had few friends in her social circle. His wife, Liu Mingli, was one of them.

Huang Lide loved to gamble, but his wife Liu Mingli was good at budgeting and adept at utilizing various relationships, running a thriving business as one of the largest stationery wholesalers in Dongzhou.

Huang Lide waited for more than ten minutes before entering Geng Wenxiu’s office.

No matter that Geng Wenxiu liked to put on a stinky face in front of others, she was genuinely kind to Huang Lide’s family and smiled, "Brother-in-law is here."

Huang Lide laughed, "Please don’t call that. You’re a leader at work."

"Have a seat, is work going well?"

Geng Wenxiu guessed that the reason for Huang Lide’s visit was likely work-related. She knew him very well, as her best friend often complained about him. If he had focused on his career and worked diligently before, with his education and experience, the position of orthopedic director would have surely been his by now.

Maybe Liu Mingli had pampered him too well, so much so that he lost any motivation and spent his best years playing mahjong all day.

For so many years, Liu Mingli had never asked Geng Wenxiu for help. This was the first ti she had spoken to her best friend about her husband’s issues, and Geng Wenxiu readily agreed to help.

Huang Lide briefly recounted his visit to the dical office earlier today. After listening, Geng Wenxiu silently pondered. Both Huang Lide and Yang Zhen Gang were hospital veterans, yet neither could handle Xu Chun. Besides Xu Chun’s apparent abilities, their incompetence was also evident.

"Have you reported this situation to Dean Yan?"

Huang Lide complained, "He’s just muddling through now, sitting in his position without fulfilling its duties."

Geng Wenxiu couldn’t help but laugh, "Old Huang, don’t be upset. Xu Chun is indeed young and hot-headed; maybe he thinks it was Dean Gao who brought him in."

"Had I known this would happen, I wouldn’t have applied to go to the dical office. What’s really the intention here? Are they really planning to let him beco the head of the dical office?" Huang Lide’s purpose for going to the dical office was clear: it was for the head position. If Xu Chun beca the head, accepting the leadership of this youngster in the future would be utterly frustrating to even think about.

Geng Wenxiu said, "Dean Zhao just arrived, and many things require my coordination. I’ve been very busy lately, and the dical office doesn’t fall under my jurisdiction. How about this: I’ll look into the situation first. Don’t be in a rush. Every job takes ti, and you certainly can’t beco obese overnight."

At this mont, Liu Dengke, the director of the hospital office, ca to inform Geng Wenxiu to go to Dean Zhao Feiyang’s office. Huang Lide quickly got up and left.

Recently, Liu Dengke was among the most frustrated people at Changxing. Zhao Feiyang was targeting him in every way, and he realized he wouldn’t stay much longer in his current role. The only reason for not imdiately replacing him might be to give him so ti to get the ssage and voluntarily step down.

Liu Dengke was actively seeking new opportunities. Familiar with various administrative positions within Changxing, he also understood that under Zhao Feiyang’s tenure, he wouldn’t find much more of a role to play in Changxing. Given Zhao Feiyang’s youth, he might even serve two terms, and Liu Dengke couldn’t afford to be stuck with him for that long.

He even considered going to work under his old leader, Gu Houyi, but the science association was just a place for retirent, already full of idle people, with no suitable position for him. Currently, he was secretly working on transferring to the Health Bureau’s dical Education Departnt.

Zhao Feiyang called in Geng Wenxiu to discuss the bank loan. Geng Wenxiu told him she was coordinating various relationships, and the loan should be approved within the year.

Zhao Feiyang was satisfied with her response and handed a blueprint to Geng Wenxiu.

Geng Wenxiu took a look at it; it was an architectural rendering. Though not specialized in architecture, she could see it depicted a modern hospital. Her first reaction was that Zhao Feiyang had soone redesign the hospital’s phase-two expansion project.

"What do you think of it?"

Geng Wenxiu nodded and said, "It’s not bad, better than the previous design."

Zhao Feiyang laughed, "Sister Geng, this isn’t the phase-two expansion project. The phase-two plot approved by the city is too small to build such a large hospital."

Geng Wenxiu thought about the cramped plots surrounding them and then compared them to the rendering in her hand. Indeed, it seed like the rendering depicted a massive hospital, which even demolishing and rebuilding Changxing might not be able to accommodate.

"What hospital is this for?"

Zhao Feiyang smiled, "The future Changxing!"

Geng Wenxiu was a bit confused by his aning.

"Have you heard of the High-Tech Zone’s plan?"

Geng Wenxiu shook her head. Not being in that position, she wasn’t supposed to be concerned with such matters. Her rank hadn’t risen to that level, but she knew the city had decided for her elder brother to head to the High-Tech Zone. Perhaps Zhao Feiyang already knew of this in advance, thus it wouldn’t have been a coincidence for him to reach out to her.

Zhao Feiyang said, "From what I understand, the High-Tech Zone’s plan includes a modern hospital, intending to select a partner from the city’s major comprehensive hospitals."

"Are you suggesting setting up a branch?"

Zhao Feiyang nodded, "Dongzhou is advancing rapidly. Major hospitals are expanding outward. The New City District, Economic Developnt Zone, and Port District have all been taken advantage of by other hospitals, while Changxing has been focused rely on its own small plot. Even if the entire phase-two project were completed, what would that accomplish? It can’t fundantally change Changxing’s backward status. To surpass, we must look long term, break from old ways of thinking, and focus on the future."

He paused, his gaze turning to the south-facing window, his voice low yet incredibly firm, "Building a modern comprehensive hospital that won’t be outdated in twenty, even fifty years, is our goal!"

Geng Wenxiu began to realize Zhao Feiyang’s appointnt wasn’t as simplistic as it seed on the surface. It wasn’t so much an appreciation of her abilities but an interest in her background. He intended to use her to secure the High-Tech Zone plot.

Rather than feeling dejected at being used, Geng Wenxiu felt invigorated. Her family culture had instilled in her early on that all people utilize each other. Being used affird one’s value, and if Zhao Feiyang could utilize her, then she could surely utilize him as well.

At the end of the month, anyone still holding monthly votes should vote for the octopus.
