Chapter 1979: Chapter 1979: Just Happened to Run Into Xia Yan
The maid who had been waiting there for a while waved towards them, “Over here.”
The leader of the thugs walked over and asked, “Where is the person? Which yard is she staying in?”
“I don’t know, just wait for a while, she’ll e out eventually.”
“Tsk, troublesome. But if it takes this long, the pay needs to be higher.”
The maid waved her hand impatiently, “I know, I know, you guys wait here first.”
However, they didn’t have to wait long. Just as the maid was looking around, trying to figure out which yard Shu Yu lived in, one of the yard gates was opened.
Shu Yu came out from inside, and the maid caught sight of her immediately and exclaimed, “That’s her.”
A few thugs instantly rushed forward, but before they got close, they saw another person ing out from the yard. That person was dressed in officer’s attire from the Office, talking to Shu Yu, looking quite familiar with her.
The several thugs who charged forward quickly halted their steps, but their obvious rushing approach couldn’t be mistaken for anything good, especially when they had ropes in their hands. No one would believe they weren’t up to something bad.
Xia Yan, who was talking to Shu Yu, suddenly shouted, “What are you doing?”
The thug’s face changed, and they turned around to run, “It’s a bailiff from the Office, scatter and run!”
Hearing this, the maid hiding in the dark had her pupils constrict sharply and she hurriedly hid herself well.
However, while she managed to hide, the thugs weren’t as lucky.
Xia Yan, being skilled, quickly and sharply pinned the leading thug to the ground, “Trying to run?”
Shu Yu kicked another thug to the ground as well.
“Bailiff, bailiff, why are you arresting me? I haven’t done anything!”
“If you haven’t done anything, then what are those ropes and sack for? Who were you planning to attack? Running as soon as you saw me, what are you guilty of?” Xia Yan had been frequenting the government office, and for convenience, he always wore officer’s attire.
Unexpectedly, today when he came over to give Shu Yu some things and had lunch, he ran into this bunch of scoundrels on their way out. These people were evidently targeting Miss Shu Yu.
The maid was so frightened her face turned pale, seeing things went out of control, she quickly sneaked away in another direction.
She hurriedly ran back to the private room in the teahouse where Cheng Jiatong was, panting heavily, “Miss…”
Cheng Jiatong frowned, “Why are you so flustered? Sweaty and dirty. How did things go?”
“Miss,” the maid was terrified, “It’s not good, those thugs were all caught.”
Cheng Jiatong stood up abruptly, her expression gloomy, “What did you say? How were they caught?”
“That woman knows a bailiff from the Office, seems like they are quite close. We were just about to make a move on her, but that bailiff came out from the yard, the thugs were scared and tried to run, but two got caught.”
Cheng Jiatong squinted her eyes, “Ah, now I get why that tramp is so arrogant, she dared to hit me relying on someone from the Office as her backing.”
“Miss, what should we do now? Those thugs are spineless, they work for money. They wouldn’t even need to be tortured at the Office, I’m sure they’ll spill the beans on us right away.”
The maid feared nothing else more than the idea of the Miss sacrificing her to take the blame. That was something entirely possible for their Miss to do.
