Ding Yuehua listened in silence for a while. She couldn’t believe that the seemingly kind and benevolent old woman—the grandmother who greeted her with an amiable smile and offered her wele gifts—was someone with a sanctimonious and malicious heart.
“Then… what does Hua Xian say?”
“My grandmother asked, but Hua Xian didn’t say anything. She only claimed she accidentally injured herself.”

Ding Yuehua took a deep breath. “Can I go and see Hua Xian?”
Shu Yu checked the time and realized it was still early. “Let’s go. She’s been at Yiren Pavilion with my grandmother lately.”
Shu Yu informed Lu Erbai, who had just finished reviewing the blueprints. He had no objections and told Ding Yuehua to bring Shu Yu back afterward.
With that, the two headed straight for Ningshui Street.
The shop was bustling as usual, and by the time Shu Yu arrived, Daya was giving someone a makeover.

Not wanting to interrupt Daya, Shu Yu headed directly to the backyard with Ding Yuehua, but not before asking Hua Xian to bring them two cups of tea.
The sunflowers in the backyard had been chopped down, leaving the area barren. However, it looked less crowded, and the stone benches that had been stored under the corridor were brought out again.
Hua Xian soon arrived with the tea. Shu Yu and Ding Yuehua exchanged glances as Shu Yu began speaking in front of Hua Xian. “Now that your family has split up, your old lady plans to move back from the Manor to live with you. It’s actually a good thing. After all, it’s always better to have an elder at home. Look at how close my grandmother and I are. Who knows, next time you might even bring your old lady over to keep my grandmother pany.”
Hua Xian’s hand holding the teacup suddenly trembled, almost causing the tea to spill.
Both Shu Yu and Ding Yuehua looked up at her simultaneously.
Hua Xian’s fingers tightened as her breathing grew a little hurried. She quickly lowered her head and apologized, “I-I’m sorry, Second Miss, Third Young Madam, it was my fault for not holding it steady. I almost soiled the masters’ clothes…”
She kept apologizing but still avoided mentioning what Old Mrs. Fan had done to her.
Shu Yu waved her hand dismissively. “It’s fine. You can return to the front of the shop to work.”
“Yes.” Hua Xian quickly took the tray and left.
Shu Yu gestured to Ying Xi, who immediately followed Hua Xian.
It didn’t take long for Ying Xi to return. “Hua Xian seems very anxious. She’s been pacing back and forth, her face pale, and she doesn’t look well.”
Shu Yu nodded thoughtfully. “Then let’s wait a bit longer.”
Ding Yuehua agreed, “Alright.”
She had been keeping things hidden for a while now, so some hesitation was natural.
Sure enough, before long, Hua Xian returned. She pressed her lips together and lowered her gaze, not daring to look directly at Ding Yuehua. In a soft voice, she asked, “Second Miss, may I speak to you alone for a moment?”
Shu Yu maintained a facade of ignorance and followed her to the corridor.
