As soon as I returned from the dungeon I took a shower and headed to the kingdom to report everything to the rchant.
While he doesn't care much about how much money we make, he does listen carefully to every detail of our expedition. What really grabs his attention though is how many levels everyone got.
rchant: "Two level-ups on the first day on a new floor? That's pretty impressive... This ans you can do 12 summons for today, right?"
While I'd like to strengthen myself now that we've reached a new floor, I agreed to let the rchant decide what the daily tickets are spent on, so I'll have to hold off on that.
Since ultimately he's trying to understand my Gift, which also benefits , I don't feel too bad about giving him control over it for a while, but...
Miwen: "Yep. So, what do you want today? A few tables to go with the chairs from last ti? Perhaps I can get you so rugs if you're trying to redecorate your ho."
Out of practically infinite possibilities, the rchant picked one of the most pointless ones and chose the [Chairs Banner] out of all his options.
And while a fancy-looking throne popped up. suffice to say, there wasn't anything worthwhile in the bunch.
I an, while each one seed to be made of a different material, every one of them qualified as chairs, even the ones with a strange design. But in the end, there wasn't anything special about them.
There are only two explanations that I can think of as to why the rchant decided on this banner...
First... this banner is one of the most harmless possible no matter what is it that my Gift does.
If I'm taking things from sowhere else, then by summoning these chairs the most that could happen is a codic scene where soone tries to sit and falls to the ground as his chair has suddenly gone missing.
On the other hand, it could be that the rchant is simply an idiot, but I'll need more data to conclude that.
rchant: "While that would be nice, I was thinking more along the lines of this one..."
Seriously? Every ti I think I have him figured out, this guy does a 180 in the blink of an eye.
If last ti he chose an unharmful banner, this ti he made sure to choose one I've been purposefully avoiding.
The [Beasts Banner]... while it most likely involves summoning sothing alive like the [Companions Banner], the probability of a cute puppy coming out of it is basically zero.
In all likelihood, a monster will be summoned.
If it works like the [Companions Banner] said monster would be level 1, aning there's not much point in defeating them and I'd be trading a ticket for nothing.
But... if the creature that cos out of it just happens to co out with a high level we'd have created unnecessary danger inside the kingdom.
In the end, I could never justify using this banner either, so in a sense, the rchant's request this ti keeps up the the of things that I wouldn't waste a ticket on.
Miwen: "If sothing bad pops up I'm leaving you to it."
rchant: "Eh? You won't defend ? That's so an, I thought we were friends..."
Miwen: "Pfft... Blood will rain from the sky the day you need to protect you."
That is to say, it's never going to happen.
And while this guy is like this, I can't deny his power, so even if a dragon were to co out, I'm pretty sure I'll be safe as long as he's on my side.
Now that I think about it, there's a bright side to all of this since I get to test out a potentially dangerous banner while being completely safe.
As such, I followed his request and used all my tickets on this banner...
rchant: "... Again!? Where are you going?"
Miwen: "Hm? What do you an?"
rchant: "Last ti was the sa... as soon as the chairs appeared, everything about you vanished. It was for just a single mont, but your status was gone, I couldn't feel your mana or sense your presence even though you were standing right in front of ..."
... As soon as the chairs were summoned and for just a single mont.
It's most likely the sa ti my mind goes blank. I've grown so used to it that I don't even mind at this point but... looks like there's more to it than I thought.
rchant: "It could've been my mistake, but I kept very close attention this ti, so I'm sure sothing happens every ti you do one of these."
Miwen: "I see... more pressing though, what will you do about this?"
As expected, twelve different creatures were summoned and they instantly started fighting each other.
A winged tiger, turtles with spikes, a dark wolf, and a cyclops, just to na a few.
Almost all of them are giants in size and as nacing as possible.
A few of them have never been recorded, so I can only assu they are creatures that dwell in floors so deep that humanity has yet to encounter them.
Either that or no one managed to survive an encounter to tell the story.
Thankfully I could confirm that all of them were level 1, but even then, any of these creatures at level one should be way more powerful than a normal human at the sa level.
rchant: "I think we should divide them... I'll take the ones on the-"
Miwen: "Agreed, we'll divide by 1 and you'll take care of them all, see ya around."
I'm not partaking in the ss he created, and I'm sure the rchant is capable of taking care of himself.
Not to ntion I already fought the entire day and had still to train with Mia, if I were to waste any more energy I'd end up more of a punchbag for her than I already am.
Since it seed like he would be occupied playing with his friends I assud the rchant wouldn't need anymore today, and left to play with my own friends.
While checking on everyone, Ellie asked if we could talk after dinner. It's pretty rare for her to ask anything, so of course, I agreed.
And so, when the ti ca, Beatrice, Anna, and Mia left to rest in the kingdom. Licia and Claire seed to notice that I wanted to stay a little while with Ellie and both headed to bed before too.
We were now sitting on the sofa, and I remained quiet while waiting for her to speak.
She was fidgeting and seed to have so trouble coming up with the right words. I'm sure she knows by now that no matter what she says, I won't judge her for it, but it seems that whatever she wants to talk about is so important to her that she feels the need to carefully think about it before speaking.
Ellie: "I... am sorry..."
Eventually, the words left her mouth, and I was left in astonishnt as I couldn't understand what she was apologizing for.
Miwen: "...?"
I couldn't help but be a bit confused, she's a very good girl and I don't think she's ever done anything bad in my presence.
Both the rchant and the other girls never said anything ill of her too, if anything, everyone seed to like her company.
Seeing her being all down like that made feel a bit guilty though, so I wanted to get to the root of the issue and hopefully solve whatever was going on.
Miwen: "So... what are you sorry about?"
Ellie: "What happened today was my fault... You wouldn't have had to deal with any of that had I not been there... I'm sorry for causing you trouble..."
I see... so it's the deal with elves then.
I've noticed online so comnts about elves in particular. Almost all of them are extrely beautiful, and being a "fantasy" race, there's a bunch of people who almost idolize them in a way.
And as expected, there's been a lot of reports of people coming in contact with them.
In most cases, they end up being very unfriendly.
While so people defend their behavior by saying that it's unreasonable to randomly approach soone for no reason and expect them to act friendly... the truth is that they are getting a pretty bad reputation since other species are much more open to talking.
Ironically, demons are getting a good reputation as approachable and friendly people. They are very rare to find, but they are pretty frank and true to their desires, in a way, they are honest about who they are and embrace their bad side without sha...
They speak their mind without being too mindful of others, and with a grin criticize anything by pointing out how bad it is, all the while it's difficult to call out their hypocrisy since they accept their evil thoughts and even call themselves experts that can recognize evil actions better than anyone else.
For our modern civilization, this makes them... pretty close to ho. Even humans from other worlds aren't as easy to deal with for us as demons are since their customs are quite different and they consider positions too much.
In our world where 99% of people share a sowhat "equal" position as simple humans it's pretty hard to deal with them.
Talking about other species is a bit off-topic though... the point is that even without Ellie I think such problems would happen anyway, maybe even with other humans.
Miwen: "I told you not to worry about that right? No one thinks it's your fault either way."
Ellie: "That's not true... Most elves live a long life in small communities in forests. Often they are attacked by bigger neighboring tribes, kingdoms, or rcenaries... so you can see why they fear and hate others, right?"
Miwen: "I guess? But why would they get mad at you?"
Ellie: "I am one of the rare examples who went to the outside... For them... being in a party with other species makes either a slave or a traitor..."
... I see, so that's why they got pissed off then.
A minority getting attacked unjustifiedly... I can see why they'd end up with prejudice against others.
However, Earth's history has shown that this is not the way forward, as it will simply lead to more conflict and new enemies until no one is left standing. If they want to live in peace...
Miwen: "Either you completely destroy the enemy so that only you remain in the end... or you et them on the other side and walk together... if they didn't wish for conquest and supremacy, and only really cared about living peacefully, then they would applaud you for cultivating bonds that nd relations."
And now that I know the context, it's obvious that the elf from before wasn't bluffing and really was royalty.
Because usually the common folk truly wish for peace and don't really care about things that don't affect them. That is unless they are made to care by those in power.
The problem is that the people in power are those who seek power, and they will always seek more. It's also so very easy to mask this desire by claiming it's actually for the sake of justice or peace.
You just need to give them one justification to attack, and no matter how minor it is, they'll use it until you are no more, or until they collect enough justifications against them so that they are no more.
Miwen: "In the end though I think you're way more comndable than those guys. I'm sure it must've required you a lot of courage and strength to leave and see people and the world for what they truly are."
Even in the modern world where it's way easier to et people and know the other side, there are a lot of people who don't do that.
It's impressive that she managed to do that in a world way less developed since even in the modern world where it's way easier to et others there are a lot of people who simply prefer to live in ignorance without ever giving themselves the chance to change their opinion.
Miwen: "So I'm not accepting your apology. Because that would an you're saying you're sorry for simply being who you are."
Ellie: "Eh?"
Miwen: "Elf or not, it doesn't matter, you've earned the trust and respect of each one of us. You're helpful in everyday life, you're always an imnse help in fights and you're often willing to listen to others. You might not know it, but everyone in here really likes you."
A quiet girl who is often swayed by the motions, trying her best to not trouble anyone. Whatever you are doing, if she's capable of helping you, she'll offer a hand.
When she's so nice and reliable, it's obvious that she'd be liked by everyone.
Licia and Claire always comnt about her, and I always feel the sa whenever I interrupt her training and instead of getting mad, she starts teaching stuff about archery.
Miwen: "Ellie... No one blas you for what happened there, and even now I don't think it's your fault nor do I think you should bla yourself. If it happens a thousand tis, my answer will remain the sa. Not just because I like you, but also because I'll always be grateful and protect your decision to live with us."
Ellie: "...To think I'd find it only after dying... It's unfair for you to be like this..."
Miwen: "Did I say sothing wr-"
Ellie: "You said too much."
She hurriedly cut off before I could finish and gave a small kiss on the cheek.
It obviously took by surprise, but before I could even react or process what had just happened, she had already hidden her face away from .
Ellie: "These things take ti for so... don't expect more than that for a while. Also, please accept my request now."
She did her best to hide from , but as I looked from above, her small figure as she used her hands and legs to cover as much as possible from my sight could only be described as cute.
I noticed her face getting more red with each second that passed, so I purposefully delayed accepting her request until she started squirming and trying to say sothing.
Ellie: "...P-Please..."
Miwen: "I'm not finding it~"
Ellie: "...pretty please..."
Miwen: "And you say I'm unfair..."
After that, I couldn't really resist, and I had already gotten my fill too, so I ended up letting her go.
The only problem now was Licia and Claire.
Both of them had already an agreent when it ca to our relationship, so there wasn't much to argue about on that front.
As for the deal with Anna... well, they were okay with it, but to , the important factor was that I asked for permission first on that case.
Now with Ellie, I couldn't ask them anything since I wasn't expecting sothing to happen in the first place, and while nothing major happened, I can't say for sure it won't in the future, so I wonder how they'll react...
I headed towards the bedroom, my mind filled with such thoughts.
Upon entering, I saw both of them giving each other a pretty intense kiss that looked like night and day compared to Ellie's.
Claire: "Oh, you're back. Wanna join?"
Seems like Licia was on the receiving end, so Claire was the one who stopped so we could talk.
Miwen: "Nah, I've already got one from Ellie."
Licia and Claire: "Eh?"
Nothing beats honesty, and while they were quite surprised, I thought that given their reaction it might be fine.
Of course, I had to explain everything in minute detail though...
Claire: "...And that's it?"
Miwen: "Yeah..."
I ended up talking about what Ellie said to too since it felt right to share it with the girls since I know they appreciate Ellie as much as I do. What's more in case sothing like this happens while I'm not around, I can count on them to act on her behalf.
Of course, I went at it chronologically, so in the end I also told them about the kiss on the cheek.
Licia: "Oh. my. gosh. That's so adorable. She's so adorable."
It wasn't quite the expected reaction, but alright, I'll take it any ti.
Claire: "But... You really did nothing else?
Miwen: "Yeah, I'm not lying. I let her go back. I would tell you if we had done more than that."
I thought Claire wasn't believing or had complaints about what happened, but in reality, she had a problem with what didn't happen.
And it wasn't just her...
Licia: "Wait, seriously? You didn't like... reciprocate? Or touched her? Or... Nnoooo...."
Claire: "She took the initiative, you need to...! Argh! What's your problem?"
It felt like I would never hear the end of it as my girlfriends complained through the entire night that I should've been more assertive and actually go all the way with another girl.
