Tina was still working even late at night. A pile of equipnt and crystals was at her side, sitting upon a table. She was injecting mana in empty crystals and refitting new crystals to put inside weapons that had lost theirs.
It seed like tedious work, but she was fully focused listening to music from her phone through ear buds.
"Hey Tina." Matthew called her. "Are you busy?" He asked looking around where other elves were also working on the sa work.
It didn’t seem fair to send warriors to fight for their lives while the others rested, so the workers and traders in the encampnt kept on their work even after nightfall.
"A bit." She answered without taking her eyes from the stones in front of her, only removing her ear buds to hear what Matthew had to say.
"I can co back later." Matthew offered.
"Don’t be an idiot. What do you want?" She said, still working.
Matthew explained his trouble with the Unholy Mana and how he was being easily bested after a simple Bless spell could prevent him from using it.
"It’s a matter of skill level and the amount of mana. If the Unholy Mana potency is bigger than twice of the Holy Mana used by the blessing, the Bless spell doesn’t work." She explained. "There have been several studies on this. You should’ve read so." She added.
"It’s been a bit hard to read scientific literature in hell." Matthew laughed at her.
"Sorry." Tina apologised, finally stopping working and turning to Matthew. "I didn’t an to be rude."
"I know." He said, sitting down on an empty stool by her side. "So I just need to release more Unholy Mana to undo the blessing?"
"Yes. But your Unholy Mana skill level is still E, isn’t it?" She pondered.
"Yes. It will take too much MP to undo the blessing." Matthew finished her thought.
"Especially how elves train their mana. Priests tend to focus on honing their Holy Mana skills. I bet, if they were being asured by the system, their Bless skill would all be above B."
"So... There’s nothing I can do?" Matthew asked with a sigh.
"There is. Blessing is still a buff, isn’t it? There’s an easy way to deal with them." She smiled at him.
"I don’t have the Dispel skill." He said after thinking for a while.
"You don’t need to. That’s why we make magic items." Tina chuckled, pulling out a wooden rod engraved with 4 blue crystals. "And you’re lucky I had this with ."
"A dispel rod?" Matthew questioned, taking the item.
"Yes. It does not co with Project Mana, so you will need to touch your target with it if you don’t have the skill yourself." She explained. "But you just need to flow your mana through the rod to activate it. You’ll only have 4 uses, though."
"Thank you Tina." Matthew said as he stored the rod inside his Inventory.
"It’s alright." She said, returning to work.
There was a deafening silence just before midnight as the trebuchets and cannons stopped their relentless attacks.
Faralynn, Matthew and the others were inside her tent still in the encampnt. They were supposed to be asleep, but it was hard to.
Soon a thunder roared loudly from outside. It was certainly Farzan initiating the assault. And then the sounds of cannons and the yelling of n reached them.
"It has started." Faralynn said in a somber tone.
"Can’t believe I’m more nervous being in the back than being there." Matthew laughed.
"You don’t have ti to be nervous when you’re fighting." Faynn joked.
"Speak for yourself." Erin said.
"Your father sounds mad." Helen comnted when a thunder sounded louder than usual.
"We don’t have much ti." Faralynn comnted.
"Let’s hope we win this ti." Mia said.
The tent went silent after that. Just listening to the distant sounds of battle.
After a while they could hear the sound of their helicopter engaging the enemy.
At the sa ti, Matthew had a terrible feeling. His Sixth Sense skill was warning him of sothing, but he couldn’t put a finger on it.
"Faynn. Sothing is wrong." He warned.
Faynn just closed her eyes and concentrated on her mana sensing.
"We are under attack!" She shouted rushing outside warning the soldiers in the encampnt.
"Stay close to Lynn!" Tina ordered.
Thanks to Matthew’s sensing, the encampnt was ready much earlier than the enemy expected.
The charge was only about 300 n strong, but they had Oifan leading them and their most powerful soldiers on Farzan’s side were assaulting the fort.
Matthew had an urge to go outside and help the defense of the battlents, but he could not leave Faralynn’s side.
They stayed still in silence just listening to the sounds of fighting just outside Faralynn’s tent for a minute that felt like an hour.
Then Matthew’s Sixth Sense kicked in.
"Mia! Erin! Walls!" He shouted loudly.
Both mages quickly raised their walls around all of them that were inside the tent.
And then, a flash of light rained over them, reducing the tent to ashes and revealing them to the night sky and shattering both Mia’s and Erin’s walls.
It was Oifan, flying over the encampnt while its defenses were busy keeping his n away from the earth walls.
Faralynn was quick to draw her bow and try to hit the flying elf, but missed. Tina soon followed with magic missiles, but each one of them was intercepted by a laser beam before they could reach the elf.
Oifan counter attacked with another huge laser beam that Erin was barely able to hold by herself.
"Ffyr!" Matthew called the fairy who didn’t need any order.
She used her wind magic flinging Matthew to the air who used Aym’s dagger to try and cut the elven attacker.
His blade was interrupted by his target’s staff who counterattacked with a downwards blow with it.
Ffyr, flying in the air just behind Matthew, moved him quickly away, making him dodge the attack, and then threw a fireball at Oifan.
The elf protected himself with a mana shield while Matthew flew in again from behind, being controlled in the air by the fairy, and tried to stab him with his blade coated in blue flas.
Oifan dodged, being able to fly with much more grace than Matthew who was basically being flung around by Ffyr.
That’s when a barrage of arrows and spells coming from the camp forced the elf to fly higher to evade them.
Mia hit him with two laser beams that weren’t strong enough to harm the elf, but were enough to draw attention opening way for Ffyr to hit him with a huge fireball sending him flying away from the encampnt.
Matthew and her flew after him while the soldiers kept the attackers occupied on the walls.
They found him inside the nearby forest dusting his white and purple robes.
"You’re stronger than the reports said." Oifan said like he was cursing.
Matthew used his Identify skill on the elf. Level 63, a bit weaker than Farzan, but not by much. If he could freely use his Unholy Mana, he would be able to win, he hoped.
"But it seems your strength cos mostly from your necromancy." Oifan added. "Which ans you are harmless against ."
With those words he conjured golden balls of light around him.
Matthew recognized that hue, it was a holy light similar to that shone by Avariel’s halo.
The balls of light then flew at him in high speed forcing Matthew to dodge, which he was only able to because he had his Sixth Sense skill aided by his Reckless Agility skill and his Vitality Boost skill supplenting the Vitality penalty from the forr skill.
The balls exploded when they made contact with the floor and the trees. The debris from the explosion scratched Matthew’s exposed skin, but doing nothing against his armor.
Oifan followed the attack by firing golden laser beams against Matthew that were too fast to dodge, but, thanks to his armor, didn’t harm him.
Ffyr flew in using a fan of flas to keep Oifan on the defensive while Matthew got back on his feet.
If he used his Unholy Mana, it would only weaken himself against Oifan’s holy attacks, but if he didn’t, he would not be able to surpass the level difference.
"Don’t panic." Ffyr said telepathically while flying high to a barrage of laser beams Oifan cast against her. "I’m with you. We faced worse. Calm down." She said.
Matthew took a deep breath. She was right. He was level 38, he evolved Ffyr to a form equivalent to level 45, according to his Identify skill. Together they should be able to best a level 63 adversary.
He coated his blade in unholy fire. He missed another blade on his other hand, cursing himself for not grabbing another while on camp. But he still had a gun in his Inventory.
He shot bullets coated in blue fire against Oifan who defended himself with a holy mana shield.
Just like old tis.
