Tony and Tyrion examined the black dragonglass daggers Corlin had brought back.

"Dragonstone has mines of this stuff," Tony said, turning one over in his hands. "So say it's what's left when a dragon dies. Others claim it's stone that survived dragonfire. Either way, it's harder and sharper than normal rock."

Corlin ran his remaining hand along a blade. "I found these at the Fist of the First n. Wildling tongues we captured swore they've seen the White Walkers. I believe them."

Tyrion raised an eyebrow. "With respect, the Others haven't been seen in thousands of years. Robert isn't going to send n north on stories alone. He's not the warrior he used to be."

Corlin looked tired. "If we don't prepare, they'll wipe us out when they co. The wildlings aren't fleeing south just because winter is near. Sothing worse is driving them."

Tony spoke up. "We won't get Robert to march an army here on faith. But we can still prepare. Steel works on wildlings. For White Walkers we need dragonglass or dragonfire. We should ride to Dragonstone and speak with Stannis. He holds the ancestral seat of the heir. He might help."

He paused. "If the Others ever co in force, the old gods, the Seven, the Lord of Light… their followers might finally stop fighting each other and face the real enemy."

Tyrion gave him a curious look. "I didn't know you studied religion."

"I study it," Tony said. "I don't worship it. There's a difference between theology and faith."

Mormont nodded. "Then it's ti you both headed south. The road is long."

---

The next morning Tony, Tyrion, and Jai rode out from Castle Black. They paused once to look back at the towering Wall before turning their horses south.

Jon Snow watched them go until they were specks in the snow.

Alliser Thorne's voice cut in behind him. "Stop staring, Snow. You've been made a ranger because you can use that rig. Don't waste it."

Jon rembered Tony's last words to him the night before.

"Stick to your principles. Hold to what you believe. And stay away from won — especially the beautiful ones. They lie best."

Coming from Tony, the warning had felt hypocritical. Jon was starting to suspect it wouldn't stay that way.

---

On the road south, Tyrion glanced at Tony with a smirk.

"'Beautiful won lie best.' Is that hard-won wisdom from all your personal research?"

Tony didn't deny it. "Practice beats books every ti. I earned my chain through results, not just reading dusty scrolls."

Tyrion tilted his head. "What was your focus, exactly? Every maester has one."

"Armor," Tony said simply.

Jai's interest sharpened at once. "Armor crafting? I've never heard of that as a formal chain."

Tony shrugged. "I couldn't build what I really wanted with the tools this world has, so I turned to armor instead. Magical armor."

He looked at Jai. "For my final test I forged a full suit that perford as well as Valyrian steel. It was attacked by a Myrish assassin, a Dothraki warrior, and a knight. Their blades shattered. The armor didn't have a scratch."

Jai leaned forward in the saddle. "And the fit?"

"Perfect. Breathable. Flexible. Half the weight of normal plate. No gaps, but you can move and breathe like you're wearing nothing."

Jai didn't hesitate. "How many can you make? I'll buy them."

"Ten thousand gold dragons per suit," Tony said. "Custom fitted."

"Five suits," Jai answered without blinking.

Tyrion whistled. Jai ignored him.

"Deliver them to King's Landing," Jai said. "If the quality holds, the Kingsguard might want a set each."

Tony nodded. "Done."

Tyrion studied him for a mont. "Why armor? Out of everything you could have studied?"

Tony looked ahead at the road. "Because it's part of . I and armor… we belong together. Always have."
