Word of Ajax’s accomplishnts spread quickly though not everyone was trusting the information they received, funnily enough it was those who were delivered fewer details about what had happened that were more likely to believe it. There were exceptions to that however.

“My prince, are you sure about changing our destination?” The prince had not only decided to head for the front lines with most of Gryndor’s elites but he also planned to redirect another of Gryndor’s champions they were going to pass on the way.

“Things have changed, a very important battle just ended and it's going to mark the swing in the war.” The prince was confident. “Duke Hearthbound just told that not only has he killed two enemy champions but he has also captured a third, this on top of the previous prisoner he had. We are going to secure them.”

“Why isn’t the Republic dealing with them like the other one he caught?" The question ca from one of the strategists.

“Because when he caught Red Fang and killed two champions before he did so with the help of another champion.” The prince explained. “This ti he was alone, behind enemy lines, and fighting five enemy champions.”

The prince didn’t feel the need to ntion that he had already ignored one communication attempt from Archduke Warborne, he wanted to have a talk with Ajax before he spoke with the high general.Going two versus five in terms of champions is essentially suicide, even if three of them were on the low end and he managed to kill one with their surprise attack they still ca out massively ahead in a two versus four.

With the changes in direction for his force made the prince finally had a mont to contact his father and brother. With a privacy bubble around himself he took out a different communication device and powered it with about five tis as much Mana as before since he knew this would be a longer conversation.

“What is it brother?” Xandor, the crown prince asked. “Our next scheduled talk isn’t for another week.”

“Ajax finally showed whatever it was that he was hiding.” The prince said, causing a long silence to answer him from the other end.

“Is he fine?” The prince recognised his sister’s voice and was a bit surprised that she was part of the talk but considering this was a surprise contact from him it wasn’t that unusual.

“He’s recovering from pushing himself a little too far.” The prince answered. “He’s also requesting we push for him to get a delve. My guess is he wants the privacy, security and ti to get a better handle on whatever it was he was holding back on.”

“That’s going to be hard to push through considering that he and Aurexion are two of the champions we sent and it's been about a month since you joined.” King Gryndor’s voice ca through. “The two of them helped capture Red Fang and kill two other champions however, did they manage to kill another champion with the trick up their sleeve?”

“They did a lot better than that.” the prince chuckled slightly as he thought back to the almost bored way the dragon had told him what had happened. “In a two versus five against champions Aurexion and Ajax killed the two mages, captured the hybrid fighter and severely injured the physical champions.”

“How?!” Xandor was on edge but nobody blad him, most of them were having a hard ti coming to terms with what they heard.

“I don’t know the specifics just yet.” The prince admitted. “I am going to go collect his latest prisoner as well as the one Aurexion picked up a few weeks ago, I expect they’ll reach out to you about them now since according to Aurexion Ajax claid their capture as his own accomplishnt.”

Champions capturing important prisoners wasn’t all that rare, one doing so on their own while working with another nation’s champion was more rare but even then precedent had been set. The Republic would make deals with Gryndor about how the prisoners would be traded and Gryndor would reward their own champion as they saw fit.

“Ajax will get his delve” The king had no doubt that after such a display that request would be fulfilled, the king then turned to his heir. “We need to reach out to the Republic, our champions should be traveling in groups of two champions at the least after this. Too many champions have died of late and we want to be prepared if this war takes a turn like the one seven thousand years ago.”

Both Xandor and his brother went silent at the ntion of that war. It had been a long ti since it happened yet it was very well docunted by every nation outside of the Republic which hadn’t been around at the ti. A three force war that eventually developed into a race to ambush and assassinate champions without care for anything else. It was a docunted fact that by the end of the war only 10% of the champions survived despite the war ending in a draw between the nations.

“See if you can get him a trip to the capital to delve into those dungeons.” Xandor said after a mont to think.

“What?” Xandor’s brother was doubting what he heard.

“Why push the Republic, son?” The king asked.

“We’re not pushing anybody.” Xandor said. “Tell them we’ll also give them one of the prisoners, not the champion obviously. But in exchange we’ll have all the champions that are there recovering help Ajax push as deep into the dungeon as he can. He didn’t push either of those dungeons past level one hundred. With only a five and eight level jump he might be able to gain more than ten extra floor clears. We want him to be as strong as he can be, after what he just pulled off here he needs to be ready for anything the beastkin might throw at him as revenge.”

“That’s so good thinking brother.” The grin could be heard clearly through the communication device. “Have so stat increasing positions sent as well he will have the extra stats to use them.”

While Gryndor’s royal family was planning their future investnt in their newest Duke and future powerhouse a very different conversation on a similar topic was happening in the beastkin capital.

“He did what?!” The king didn’t care how valuable the crystal vase was as he smashed it against the wall when he heard the details about Ajax’s latest battle. “In under half a minute, you’re sure.”

“I triple checked Your Highness.” The tiger beastkin, high general and archduke answered. “ The one upside I can see is that whatever he did placed an extre amount of stress on his body. I doubt we will see him take the field any ti soon. From the reports his dragon had to snatch him mid combat and fly him to safety.”

“What good does that do us if they have a two man team that can travel around at a dragon’s flight speed and can take apart five champions at the sa ti.” The king’s anger ca across clearly but it was a poor cover for what fear he was trying to mask. For the first ti since he put his coup in motion almost a century ago he saw a clear threat to his plans that he had no answer to. “Sothing needs to be done about him, we also need to find out how soon he can take the field again. We also can’t afford to lose too many more champions, or it wouldn’t even matter if we win this war and sack the Republic the rest of the nations will crush us after it's finished.”

“It will be done., Your Highness.” With a salute the tiger beastkin turned around and moved to exit the throne room yet he still caught a glimpse of the king sitting on his throne, the lion beastkin’s nervous tick of touching the scar that crossed his eye when he was worried was easy to spot.

The high general didn’t get to make two steps past the throne room doors before soone else stepped in his path. “Where am I going?” The younger lion beastkin in front of him was an even larger specin than his father, the only other people comparable in size he had seen had been elephant beastkins and they didn’t have his speed or ferocity.

“It is not yet ti for you to take the field again my prince.” The high general said, more out of habit as he knew it would all be aningless anyway. “You still haven’t fully recovered from your part in the ambush on Shadow.”

“I’m almost healed, I’ll be fine by the ti I reach the front.” The lion beastkin said. “I’ll do my part in easing my father’s worries. I am the strongest of our newest champions and unlike most of them I can even hold my own against most of our older champions. Now will you tell where I am going or should I pick?”

The high general rubbed the bridge of his nose in an attempt to sooth the oncoming migraine he felt coming. “That blasted child…” He muttered under his breath as he thought about Ajax and how much his presence had pushed them in the month since he had joined the war. Not only had they failed to kill champion Firebeard but they had now lost six champions, two captured and four killed all due to his presence.

“So be it, I’ll use your talents to take out so of their roaming squads.” The high general said as he turned towards the beastkin. “But you will stay away from the dragon and its rider, or I will have you brought back in chains.”

The prince growed nacingly at the words, he had heard from the spymaster that this Ajax was as close to a student his father’s arch rival had, he didn’t care about the age or level difference between them he just wanted to bring his head to his father as a trophy and proof that he would make a good heir.
