4:00 PM
The urgent knocking sound "dong dong dong" woke Luo Fei from his sleep.
Luo Fei already had so guesses in his mind.
He opened the door to find his aunt and Wu Yan outside.
His aunt’s eyes were red and her face full of anxiety, Wu Yan also wore a worried expression.
"Mom, Aunt, what’s going on?" Luo Fei asked, although he already had a suspicion.
"Xiaofei, just now several police officers rushed into the house and took Xiaoyu away, claiming he killed soone. Go and check it out, there must be so mistake, Xiaoyu might make mistakes but he wouldn’t kill anyone," his aunt said tearfully.
"Xiaofei, hurry and see what’s going on, maybe there’s so misunderstanding," Wu Yan urged Luo Fei.
Luo Fei knew that the criminal investigation team must have finished matching DNA and fingerprints since they suddenly arrested soone, but he nodded and said, "Alright, I’ll go see. Mom, you and Aunt stay at ho and wait."
Suddenly recalling sothing, Luo Fei asked, "By the way, Aunt, why are you here alone? Where’s Uncle?"
"Your uncle, that good-for-nothing, is at ho. I asked him to co over, and he said the police wouldn’t arrest soone without reason and claid he didn’t raise a murderer as a son, so he refused to co," his aunt said angrily about his uncle.
"Mom, Aunt, you both should go back ho and check, I’m afraid sothing might happen to Uncle," Luo Fei suggested, thinking that although the chances were small, who knows what Uncle might think confronting such a situation.
Then Luo Fei quickly got dressed and headed to the criminal investigation team, eager to find out the details.
By the ti Luo Fei reached the front desk of the criminal investigation team, there was no one around, leaving him unsure of whom to approach. Just then, a short-haired police officer ca out holding a notebook.
Luo Fei recognized him as Yang Su, the team leader of the action squad in the criminal investigation team. They hadn’t interacted before, but since the first Gu Youguo case, the Su Xiao suicide case, and now this case, they had encountered each other three tis.
"Captain Yang," Luo Fei quickly greeted him.
"Luo Fei, what brings you here," Yang Su asked, recognizing Luo Fei, whom he had a good impression of, as he had been helpful in solving previous cases.
"Captain Yang, have the DNA and fingerprint matches co out?"
"The fingerprints don’t match Wu Yu’s, but the DNA matches a set collected at the scene exactly. The captain and the others are interrogating Wu Yu now, co, let’s go see the situation," Yang Su replied.
Luo Fei followed Yang Su to the door of the interrogation room, where Yang i and others were present.
Inside the interrogation room, Wu Yu was handcuffed to a chair, looking terrified with his pale face and trembling hands. Zhao Donglai was the one conducting the interrogation.
Yang i and the others noticed Luo Fei’s presence too.
Yang Su asked Luo Fei to stay outside with Yang i and the others, while he entered the interrogation room with his notebook.
The interrogation of Wu Yu wasn’t particularly difficult. Zhao Donglai managed to get a full confession from Wu Yu in less than five minutes.
Tang Youquan was indeed killed by them - there were four in total: Wu Yu, Zhou Xiaotiao, Ma Hu, and Huang Bin. All four were unemployed and usually loitered around the streets.
That day they got the urge to have a drink on the mountain, so they brought two packs of bottled alcohol and so snacks to Walnut Mountain.
As they passed by Tang Youquan’s house on the mountain, his dog barked at them incessantly, annoying them so much that Zhou Xiaotiao even picked up a stick to hit the dog.
Afterward, they found a nice spot to settle down, eating snacks and drinking while chatting and bragging. Out of nowhere, soone ntioned the heroes and warriors of the past, who would eat at and drink heroically.
As they talked, Ma Hu felt that just drinking without at was inadequate. He said if they had at, they could emulate those heroic figures, eating and drinking boldly. The others also felt regretful about not having any at.
Then suddenly Zhou Xiaotiao ntioned the dog they saw earlier and suggested stealing it to roast and eat.
The others were tempted by the idea, and they conspired to steal the dog.
They returned to the house, and since the owner wasn’t ho and the dog barked at them again, Ma Hu and Wu Yu, ard with sticks, hit the dog hard on its waist, bringing it down instantly.
They took the dog away along with its chain.
After dealing with the dog, Wu Yu and the others started a barbecue, drinking beer and feeling a sense of satisfaction.
Around 4:00 PM, after finishing the dog at and the alcohol they brought, they decided to head back.
As they passed by Tang Youquan’s house on the way back,
Tang Youquan had returned ho and realized his dog was missing, searched for it but couldn’t find it.
Upon seeing Wu Yu and his group, he asked if they had seen his dog. Wu Yu and the others naturally denied it, not expecting Zhou Xiaotiao to still be playing with the dog chain, having not discarded it.
Seeing the chain, Tang Youquan knew that Wu Yu and his friends had sothing to do with his dog’s disappearance and harshly questioned them about its whereabouts, threatening to break their legs if they didn’t confess.
Having consud quite a bit of alcohol, emboldened by the buzz, Wu Yu and the others boldly admitted that they slaughtered and ate the dog.
Upon hearing that his carefully nurtured dog had been slaughtered and eaten by these young ruffians, Tang Youquan was enraged. He stepped forward and slapped Ma Hu, who was standing at the front, angrily calling them animals, deprived of human decency and upbringing.
This infuriated Wu Yu and his group. They held Tang Youquan down to the ground, took off his shoes, and slapped his face repeatedly.
However, Tang Youquan was stubborn, still spewing curses even as his face swelled from the beating.
Incensed, Wu Yu and his gang challenged Tang Youquan’s resilience, carrying him into the house.
Zhou Xiaotiao put the dog chain around Tang Youquan’s neck, stripped him of his clothes, treating him like a dog, riding him, and viciously whipping him with the chain.
No matter how they tortured him, Tang Youquan remained defiant, still hurling curses at Wu Yu and the others.
Wu Yu, who had been sitting on a camp bed, was feeling the effects of the alcohol and his head felt uncomfortable. He then, without conscious thinking, grabbed a rusty wrench...
