Chapter 1217 Extinct

"You…"

Ansla's heart was beating out of her chest at this point, rippling waves flooding over her delicate skin and flushing it red. She could tell what Sylas was talking about imdiately, and the mont Sylas saw her reaction, he knew that his guesses had been correct.

It was just as he expected. The pillar of light that ca with gean's descent was a sign. But it was a sign that only the highest of Noble Demons would know of.

Clearly, by the reactions of the pig Demons to the pillar of light, they didn't know the significance of it. As far as Sylas could tell, they knew nothing at all.

So, there were only two possibilities at that point. Either he had been going off on an incorrect tangent all along and there was nothing at all for him to gain here in relation to gean. Or… the Demon World was no different from any other world in that the upper echelon hid things from the "little people."

The question was whether Ansla was high enough that she would be considered among this upper echelon. Or, at the very least, that her Barbed Chain Gang would be.

Given the way she reacted to Sylas' appearance, she was borderline. She was confident enough not to bow and scrape at his every word, but she was also able to maintain an air of superiority and chippiness that ca from soone who could get away with being a bit passive-aggressive to those of higher standing than herself without suffering for it.

Of course, this was almost certainly because of her beauty.

n tended to let beautiful won get away with a lot so long as she didn't cross their bottom lines.

But beauty was also a double-edged sword. If you were too beautiful and didn't have the power to back it, then you would just be pillaged like any other treasure. Ansla certainly didn't look like soone who had been pillaged. At the very least, her confidence was too high to be such a woman.

Unfortunately, all these things—these observations, these probed insights that Sylas had been able to gain—all stopped at speculation. He couldn't confirm.

Until now.

As far as he was concerned, this was perfect. The Barbed Chain Gang seed just influential enough to know, but also weak enough that they didn't seem to want to participate.

If they did want to participate, then why would they send Ansla out alone to scope out a region that very obviously wouldn't have had gean anymore? And more than an

entire week after it as well?

If Sylas had to guess, the truly powerful Noble Demon Lineages had probably already commandeered the Barbed Chain Gang's services to scout out the entire region. It was only after they were done and silence fell over the region that Ansla dared to go and check for herself.

"Which Lineage are you from?"

"Don't ask stupid questions," Sylas replied.

Ansla's jaw tightened.

It was obvious. If Sylas was here, choosing to use these ans, after he had been out to sea as well just like her, it was obvious that he couldn't use his own family and was here to use hers.

"Do you think that I'm in a position to decide what my father's gang does?"

"No. But you're in a position where you can apparently ignore his orders and be a bit willful. Let's say you gain yourself a new boy toy that happens to be quite fascinated with these legends and wants to explore a bit. No one will take it seriously, your gang avoids scrutiny, and I get what I want."

Hearing Sylas say the word "boy toy" so flippantly, as though he wasn't purposely choosing to put himself in a deaning position, didn't make Ansla think less of him. If anything, the fear in her heart only grew deeper.

This man… he was far too unpredictable. He was simply impossible to control.

"… There is no way anyone would think you to be a boy toy.

Your…"

Sylas casually dismissed his Fusion with Nosphaleen. In that mont, his sowhat delicate appearance returned to his more usual masculine edge.

The parts of him that felt more Demonic were suddenly chipped away. He restrained his eyes with his Will—almost completely. A bit of the darkness and chaos from his Primal Lord Gene Class beca more prominent at the sa ti he restricted his Demonic Will entirely.

He still felt imposing, and yet he had lost much of the umph that had made him a Noble Demon.

But it wasn't just that either. Just the tiniest bit, Sylas pulled on the Lust Seed. It wasn't enough to be overwhelming, and certainly not enough to send out waves of Charisma, but it was enough for the subtlest hint of a little sothing.

Ansla was taken aback again, taking a step back.

"You… you… you're…"

She thought she had figured out Sylas' Lineage. She couldn't feel it when he was in what she thought was his true Noble Demon form, but now that he had restrained it, Sylas had "allowed" her to figure it out.

In his research on Charysms, Sylas had learned sothing quite interesting. It was true that all stories of Incubi descended from this one Demon Lineage. But the reality was that the vast majority of Charysm descendants were weak, inferior creatures that could only target the most inferior of won, or chinks in the armor of the strongest of won.

They were the dregs and not often taken very seriously, though many of these Incubi could co to grow strong if they lucked into enough won to "devour."

The Race that the world feared were those True Noble Charysm—the kind that could make you think what they wanted you to think and crush your Will with a single glance…

Exactly the sa sorts of feelings that Ansla had

experienced re monts before, even to the point she had forced herself to close her eyes.

However, she didn't make the connection until right this mont when Sylas took the position of an inferior Incubus.

How had she run into a legendary Charysm? Weren't they extinct?
