"Ah, shit, shit, shit..."

Khan scratched the back of his head, his poisonous spikes bristling for a mont before laying down like—well, slicked-back hair. He sighed, paced, and then sighed again.

He really wasn’t any good at this, and he was supposed to be focusing on his breakthrough to C-tier. But that bastard Ekear was skirting his duties as eldest disciple.

Now he was the one here picking up the pieces.

Did he know that Gralith was probably on it? Yeah, he did. But the main problem was actually the fact that Gralith kind of had his hands full.

First there was Sylas’ issues, and now there was Gwenu, and the combination of the both of them was bound to make things more difficult.

Khan was trying to figure out if there was anything he could do to calm this down a bit, but he knew that it was a fruitless endeavor.

BOOM!

His head snapped back and his lip twitched as he felt the entire mountain range shaking.

What the hell? Even if he’s breaking into the E-tier, it shouldn’t cause this much commotion.

Khan had no idea that Sylas was still not breaking through. This ti, however, it wasn’t because he was stubborn—it was because he physically couldn’t.

With what the little girl had said, breaking through to the E-tier would require him to upgrade his eyes again. Otherwise, he would be right back to square one.

Unless his eyes progressed to Tier 4, or his body grew powerful enough to withstand it on its own without the upgrade, progressing to E-tier now would actually be like a death knell.

Getting his hands on such a powerful set of D-tier eyes was one thing. A C-tier version was another matter entirely.

"They’re going to be the end of ," Khan mumbled, then he made a decision.

Flipping over a device in his hands, Runes flickered and a connection was made across the stars.

"Yo, Wei, buddy, how’ve you been?" Khan started.

"Don’t start with , Khan."

Surprisingly, it was the voice of a woman on the other side, and she didn’t sound very impressed with him at all.

"What? I can’t call a friend?"

"A friend? Is that what we are? You could have fooled ."

"Hey, hey, don’t be like that. We’ve had so good tis. Rember that day we—"

"Get to the point, Khan. If you think I can help smooth over this situation for your little junior sister, or you think I’ll be giving you information for free, you’ve got another thing coming. Those are husband privileges, and you’re very clearly not my husband. You’ve made that clear many tis."

Khan coughed awkwardly. He hadn’t even ntioned what he called for yet, and she was already on his case. This woman was too sharp for her own good.

"Eh... how much?"

"You definitely can’t afford it. The Seeing Thorns are taking this matter as seriously as we could ever. This sort of several-Sector-wide chaos is exactly the sort of chance organizations like ours need to further entrench ourselves and get a leg up. If I get caught trying to give you preferential treatnt without a marriage alliance, I’ll be knocked down several pegs."

Khan rubbed his head again, his pacing increasing.

Though Wei hadn’t said much, her words alone gave a hint. It seed that these matters wouldn’t be ending so easily.

According to what Khan understood of the situation, Gwenu had killed soone pretty important—but not nearly the best. She went in for round two after an already hard-fought battle and almost lost her life as a result of the next opponent.

While the Thryskai were certain to capitalize on this, the fact that one of their own had been defeated was a stain on their bid for absolute superiority. That would definitely cause issues and result in them being even more aggressive.

There might be a delegation sent to the Sanctum, or their F- and E-tiers might be targeted with more specificity because of that.

That would leave all those outside the Sanctum right now in quite a bit of danger.

What he wanted out of Wei was information about how they would seek revenge or what moves they were already making. Logically, Gwenu had probably had to take the long way ho so she wasn’t tracked down and killed, so it had probably been a while since this happened—though Khan didn’t have all the details.

That was to say that whatever retaliation the Thryskai were planning was likely well under motion already. Part of Khan was actually wondering if the visit of the Leava Clan might actually be related.

On the one hand, if the Leava were looking for the new Dominus Paragon, checking organizations with powerful Rune Masters made sense. After all, the people with the strongest minds across the universe were all likely Rune Masters.

But on the other... the Leava Clan had seed to have a completely different strategy before. So why did they suddenly take such an aggressive approach?

Khan didn’t know how right he was. When Furon Leava—the current number one on the Combat Matrix Index and the Rune Master F-tier Rankings—and the Leava Patriarch spoke, both of them had made the assumption that the Dominus Paragon Title had likely ended up in the hands of the Thryskai, who were now making their move.

If Khan knew this, he would be even more certain in his assumptions. But even not knowing all of these details, the warning bells were flashing in his mind.

Sothing big was about to happen.

BOOM!

Khan jumped, and then cursed. He thought for a second that soone had co to declare war, but it was just Sylas again.

These two really were going to be the end of him.

"Alright, Wei. I won’t hold you any longer, then. Thanks for the talk. Let’s hang out soon."

After saying this, he disconnected the call.

In a distant galaxy, a woman looked at the communication device in her hand with a scowling frown on her face before shaking her head.

"All right, Cassarae. You’ve gotten your mission, right? You can go off now. Turmoil is where our Seeing Thorn grows more powerful. This is your chance to move up."

Cassarae stood across from Wei beneath a short set of steps.

She nodded slowly.
