But just as Rohan thought he only had one more wolf to deal with, another appeared from the darkness ahead and joined the side of the remaining wolf.
The two wolves had learned from their companion’s failure as well. Both of them stuck to each other’s side, and neither risked separating and rushing in for another sneak attack like their companion did a few seconds prior.
Rohan wasn’t afraid though as he held his spear in front of him and pointed it towards the two wolves.
’Molten-stone Skin.’
His gene activated and coated his entire body in that intimidating lava-like texture, increasing not just his defence massively, but all his other attributes as well.
’Now even if they do land a hit, it won’t achieve much.’ These E rank Ordinary wolves would find it extrely difficult to pierce through a defence a tier above it.
Rohan put this increase to use at the right mont as he focused on the newcor wolf, deciding that singling them out was better than focusing on trying to fend off both at once.
Without hesitation or fear, he took steady steps towards the wolf as it growled and barked at him to no avail, looking for any chance to strike at his legs — which to the wolves, was his most vulnerable part. Immobilising their foes before going in for the kill shot was how these wolves worked when not in such big groups.
Rohan’s constant use and efficiency with the spear over the past month showed in this scenario. Although the wolf tried to dodge his incoming attack, he adjusted his trajectory mid swing and caught it right in its front left shoulder.
’Damn, even with my own increased speed, these wolves are still slightly faster. I guess this is just the difference between being defence oriented and speed oriented.’
A whimper and even more growls ca as the injured wolf backed off, already proving that these beasts were multiple tis more intelligent than the insect type beasts Rohan was used to dealing with.
However, Rohan wasn’t bothered with what made these wolves different and unique from any other beast he’d faced so far and took another swing for the injured wolf.
Despite its injured shoulder, the distance already between them, combined with its three still perfectly intact limbs, allowed it to dodge in ti.
Disappointingly, Rohan’s swing missed and took a chunk out of the ground instead, even causing a few sparks as the second wolf then took the opportunity to pounce at him while he was focused on aiming for its companion.
The two crashed into each other and fell into an intense brawl between man and beast.
...Or would have, if it weren’t for one key component of Rohan’s defence.
Before the second wolf could even make any attempts at sinking its teeth into Rohan’s neck, it winced and whimpered before lunging backwards in pain. Molten lava stuck to the wolf’s body in droves when it ca into contact with Rohan, and the wolf was unable to shake it off.
’This is almost like napalm...’ Rohan noted as he stood back up and watched the second wolf writhe around in pain as its fur and skin burned off.
It was terrifying how no matter what the wolf tried, it couldn’t shake off the lava clinging to its body. Its sticky property was sothing Rohan never could have predicted when using the Lava Hellebore on the gene.
’Luckily it backed off instantly after getting a taste of my molten attribute, otherwise that could have been quite a sticky situation.’
These wolves were proving to be more difficult opponents than Rohan originally anticipated. Despite Rohan having a higher tier gene, he was still F rank, while these wolves were genuine E ranks.
If he had to guess, his own strength and these wolves’ strength were about equal, showcasing just how imperative it was for him to reach E rank himself.
Not wanting to delay long enough for even more wolves to show up and join the fray, Rohan darted towards the wolf he injured the first ti around. He knew this was the best chance to take it down while the other one was far too distracted trying to put out the flas consuming its body.
The wolf instantly entered a defensive stance, clearly ready to dodge his attack at any mont again. But Rohan wasn’t going to settle for another failure.
Mid sprint, he put all his bodily strength into one mighty throw of his spear right at the three functional legged rabid wolf.

What followed was utter carnage. The wolf couldn’t even let out one final wail or whimper before it was sent into death with its first companion that tried sneak attacking Rohan.
His spear made contact with it after a sonic boom resounded through the air — having broken the speed of sound with that throw — and pinned the wolf against the cave wall.
Rohan unsummoned his spear and let it reappear in his hand.

Taking care of the third and final wolf was the easiest, as his molten lava already did half the work for him. All he had to do was walk over and put the wolf out its misery with one swift strike to the brain.
’Is this all the dungeon has to offer?’ Rohan wondered.
If all he had to face in this entire dungeon were E rank Ordinary tier Rabid Wolves, he had no complaints. Rather, he would welco it with open arms. How could he ever turn down so many free E rank Origin Crystals?
In truth, this was part of the reason he even chose to venture into the dungeon in the first place, aside from the fact that his strength fit the recomndation.
If he had to rely on normal hunting thods, then it would take weeks to gather the sa amount of E rank Origin Crystals as he would with one dungeon run if the wolves kept showing up.
