Chapter 1424: Chapter 2: Battle
“Do we have to walk much further?”
Man VV and the little girl CC have been walking for a long time, until night fell, yet they haven’t reached the legendary ruins of the research facility.
“I reckon we need another half day.”
The little girl CC looked up at the gradually darkening sky and said:
“Let’s not continue today, let’s camp here. Once it’s pletely dark, many beasts e out in the jungle, it’s very dangerous.”
As soon as she finished speaking.
CC started gathering dry branches, weeds, and fallen leaves, quickly arranging them into the shape of a pyramid, using special flint to ignite a flame.
VV watched all this with surprise:
“You’re really skilled.”
“Of course, haha, I wasn’t lying to you.”
CC said with a smile:
“My father is the best hunter in the village. I’ve been hunting with him since I was little, so I’ve naturally learned a lot.”
“That hidden research facility in the mountains, most people wouldn’t dare to go there. It’s not only a climb but there are also beasts and poisonous plants along the way… Only a professional hunter like my dad would dare to try.”
“That’s why I said that unknown secret research institute should be our hope; my father never mentioned it to anyone, only to my mom and me after returning home.”
“VV, you stay here and guard the fire, don’t let it go out. I’ll go find you something to eat.”
With that, the nimble CC disappeared into the night, her traces unknown.
VV looked in the direction where the little girl left.
He scratched his head:
“I feel so useless…”
He smiled wryly.
Even though he agreed to help CC take revenge and rescue her parents, it seems with his plete amnesia, he can only act as CC’s accessory, relying on the little girl even for meals.
“I really hope to regain my memory soon.”
…
After about an hour, the little girl CC returned.
Her small cloth bag was full of wild fruits, and she held a few bird eggs in her hand:
“Hehe~ Look at what I’ve brought back~”
She smiled beautifully, her dimples faintly visible at the corners of her mouth:
“Lucky me, climbed the tree to pick fruits and came across a bird nest, so I conveniently snatched the eggs inside. They’re quite nutritious.”
Then.
The two of them sat by the fire, eating wild fruits while waiting for the bird eggs in the flame to cook.
“Have you ever encountered someone like me with plete amnesia?”
VV asked:
“Is my situation unique?”
“You should be from the old-time hibernation.” CC bit into a fruit.
“Hibernation?”
VV tilted his head:
“What is hibernation?”
“That, I don’t quite understand either.”
CC, merely an 11-year-old child, could only recount what she heard:
“I heard it mentioned when my parents were chatting. It seems there’s a device called a Hibernation Pod… It’s a high-tech product from the old era, remains of which humanity couldn’t manufacture after the great catastrophe.”
“Sleeping in the Hibernation Pod makes you enter a half-dead state, allowing you to stay unchanged for a very, very long time. The side effect though, is that you pletely lose your memory and remember nothing.”
That makes sense.
VV nodded.
He must be in this situation.
But…
Why did he enter hibernation?
If hibernation means plete memory loss, isn’t it too risky?
“Supernatural catastrophe…”
VV silently repeated the words CC mentioned several times, and asked again:
“You mentioned supernatural catastrophe before, what exactly was this event?”
“Oh, it happened over a hundred years ago.”
CC slowly finished a wild fruit, then continued:
“You often hear about the past from old people, although most stories bee more exaggerated over time.”
“It’s said that in the year 2504, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and other supernatural disasters suddenly erupted, floods and landslides hit cities across the world, almost wiping out human society.”
“But ‘almost’ is all, many survived… Then came years of wars and internal conflicts, which reduced the population drastically, barely maintaining basic balances, the development of civilization began again.”
“Was the entire Earth like this?” VV asked.
“It should be.”
CC shrugged:
“I’ve never left Brooklyn, so I don’t know what the world outside is like, but I imagine they’re all similar.”
“After so many years of reproduction, surviving humans now mostly live in villages, relying on primitive farming and livestock, and digging out old-world relics from the ground.”
“The most powerful old-world relic must be guns. Many well-preserved guns can still be used even after a century has passed. The Evil Tribe survives by swaggering with those guns, robbing here and there, even taking people as slaves.”
“I understand now.”
VV wrapped two cooked bird eggs with leaves, passing them to CC:
“So, the hidden research facility your father discovered is still unexplored, and if it contains guns, you’ll have the power to fight against those Evil Tribes.”
“Exactly.”
CC blew on the roasted bird eggs she received:
“The Evil Tribe doesn’t have many guns either; after all, there’s no capability to manufacture guns in this era, so they’re really precious, once broken they’re gone, bullets too.”
“I think using guns shouldn’t be too difficult. I’ve seen those bad guys handle them easily, just pressing the trigger is enough. With a bit of training… it should be easy to master.”
