"…Wei Bing… How?"
Standing beyond the shades of the mist, Gu Chen looked beyond the fading mist with a horrified look on his face. With what started as an unsure, blurred image, faintly seeing a silhouette, it turned into a clear image of a young woman who had her back against them.
The familiar back of the woman made Gu Chen choke on his feelings. As if reacting to his voice, the woman slowly turned around.
Gu Chen took in a deep breath of cold air and stumbled backward, his face twisting in rage and despair.
"What have they done to you…"
The woman across from him appeared to be in her twenties; every part of her visible skin, including her face, had dark black veins like lines all over it.
Her body looked listless as if all of her blood had been drained.
"Why do you say that… dear." The woman spoke up, her voice cracking as she raised her arm, tilting her head, asking for a hug from her husband. "I have always been like this."
Gu Chen shuddered; his legs buckled a little. The sweet voice of his wife made him feel like rushing into her arms. Hug her!
Since her death, he regretted letting her go alone. He missed her a lot and realized how much he loved her. Seeing the woman he loved standing before him, the sa woman he thought had died before.
But here she was… alive?
"Noo… You are not her… You cannot be her..". He refused to acknowledge it. If his wife was alive and if she was here, that only ant one thing.
She was soone from the Demonic Cult!
And he refused to believe that his gentle, loving wife would do sothing like that.
"You are not her! You are a demon in disguise! Taking advantage of her body, even defiling the mory of the woman she was." Gu Chen roared; he let out all of his hatred towards the woman while taking a step back.
Seeing his action and hearing his words, the smile on Wei Bing did not vanish; instead, it widened, turning grotesque.
"Ohh, you wound my loving heart, 'dear.'" The last word ca out with a mocking tone. She lowered her arms and chuckled demoniacally. "You must be thinking that I have been possessed by soone from the Living Dead Sect, but I am not. I have always been from that sect, and you just failed to see the real ."
"I must say, I am surprised that you took so long to find this place."
"It's been a year since I made my move, and you only noticed the disappearances now, and that too not on your own, it seems." She finally turned to look at Noah, and her eyes narrowed dangerously.
"It looks like we have so wannabe heroes here—"
"You are right." Noah cut her off before she could even finish speaking those words. His eyes were looking at the woman, but he could see beyond what she was.
Seeing her turning silent at his intervention, Noah started explaining himself, "You are right in saying that you are not possessed by soone or are being coerced into doing everything you have done."
The air in the chambers suddenly stilled, and Wei Bing's smile slowly vanished.
"What do you an?" It was not her but Gu Chen who asked.
"She is not being controlled by anyone; she has always been like this. She married you with a purpose. She had to gain your trust and give motion to her plans, and she achieved it."
The more he spoke, the sharper the look in her eyes got.
"No! That cannot be possible. My binger was not like that. I know it!" Gu Chen was still in denial, but the louder his voice grew, the less convincing he looked.
He wanted to believe in his wife, but soone as powerful as Noah would not speak anything without rits.
"It's the truth." Noah glanced at him. "I can see her soul. It IS your wife, and she has no restrictions on it."
Noah did not have to speak anything else because Gu Chen was knowledgeable enough to understand the aning behind his words.
Wei Bing, on the other hand, looked at Noah with a stunned look on her face.
"And just look at the pile of corpses behind her; you can see that it took more than just a year to gather that many bodies in one place."
Xin Yan pointed at the pile of bodies behind the woman, which made a small hill in the room just from the amount of the bodies.
"I doubt she made all those visits to her mother or if even she has a mother."
Gu Chen no longer defended her; he had no words to speak. Whatever he thought to refute was denied by his own logical thinking.
"You sure have cooked up a good story, but I never denied anything from the start. As you said, I have done everything you know." After her mont of shock, Wei Bing gathered herself and spoke again with pride, puffing her chest out.
Woosh!
She raised her hand, and a ghastly energy left her hands, weaving into several small threads. Her cultivation at the peak of the foundation realm was fully on display.
The threads overlapped over one another and grew thicker while still staying sharper. They cut through the air and rushed towards Noah and his group instantly.
And then…
Snap!
The net of ghastly energy shattered like a broken glass mirror, breaking the smile on the woman's face along with it.
"No need to attack to hide your agitation and fears. I can almost guess what you wanted to accomplish by the things you have done, and you were doing here…" Noah saw his distress and turned his focus back to the woman. "But I still have a doubt? Why…"
"Why, what?" Wei Bing snarled, her eyes dilating with fierceness.
"Why did you kill yourself?" Noah tilted his head with a half-knowing smile. "From what I have deduced, it was not part of that man's plan, was it?"
