Huff! Huff!
Sylvheriel ran as if her life was dependent on it, which was literally the case. Even with qi infused in her body, she felt the burn of her muscles as she crossed several ters with each stride.
Despite her proud deanor, she was rely a young elf who had barely reached the Foundation Establishnt Realm. So it took her a considerable amount of ti to even reach so far away from the Lord of the Beast.
Her breath was ragged, and her movents were frantic. As she ran, the soul-chilling silence around her made her even more anxious.
The rustling of the dry leaves in the distance.
The subtle whistling of the night air around her...
Everything made her flinch while running. She felt as if the Lord of the Night was right behind her and it would catch up to her any mont.
Tears started streaming down her reddened eyes; her lips quivered in cold fear as she felt sothing gripping her from behind.
"Hmmmp...hicc. Hff!" The green-haired elf princess did not know how much ti had passed since she ran away from the group, leaving them to their fates. She did not even have any idea how much distance she had covered up till now.
All she cared about was running forward and surviving!
It was not just her who was running for their life; the guards were in no different position. They all ran in different directions, hoping that they would not be the ones to be chased by the otherworldly creature.
"As his majesty said... the fight must have caught the attention of those people." One of the guards, whose body, like the others, was still covered in dried blood, turned around to glance back while running.
The fus of red flas and the smoke rising to the ground, still visible even from the distance, made him frown.
He turned his head forward and popped one healing and one qi recovery pill in his mouth before running ahead at even greater speed.
Woosh!
His figure seed to have morphed into a twist of wind and a flexing sheet of cloth before disappearing into the night.
All the guards, including Captain Black Sword, were doing the sa thing. They ran away to a decent distance so that they could escape the senses of the creature of the night and hid themselves in the empty rooms of the tree houses, covering their tracks and stopping their breath.
With the huge bodies of the tree, hiding inside of them was not impossible. Now unless soone was looking for them with special ans, they would be very hard to find.
Being soldiers, their minds could think of several scenarios at tis like this, but Sylvheriel was different...
She had no prior experience in fighting and handling dangerous and complex situations. So she did the first thing that ca to her mind.
...she ran towards the edge of the forest to save herself.
Woosh!
It took her several hours of exhausting running to return to the point where they ca down from.
The mont she stepped out of the clearing, her eyes were droopy, and exhaustion embraced her body. Taking a single step made her feel like a huge mountain was pressing down on her chest.
Her lungs were burning as she wheezed for breath.
She did not even realize when she took a step forward, she had been surrounded from all sides.
Several cloaked figures had covered the area; so were standing on tree branches, while the others were on the ground. All of them were holding different weapons.
Swords, spears, bows and arrows, and even hamrs.
"Is it not the runaway elven princess..." The captain leading the group, with a black mask and red paint covering his face, stepped out of the clearing and spoke with delight, "Capture her; we will lead her to the general. She will be very pleased with this."
Barely standing conscious, Sylvheriel froze upon realizing the situation she was in and hurriedly took a step back.
But her heel struck a raised root from the ground, and she fell backwards, scraping the skin of her arms.
"Argh!" As she cried in panic, the foot soldiers of the Red Dawn cult raised their weapons and pointed at her from all directions.
"It will be better for all of us if you calmly co with us, or we can use more...’straining’ thods." The captain of the group, whose features could not be discerned due to the cloth on his face, spoke with a suggestive tone, making Sylvheriel flinch on the ground and move back.
The others around him never spoke even once and simply followed his commands. The group soon disappeared into the forest with a tied elven captive on their shoulders.
The captain glanced back at the forest one last ti, muttering to himself, ’The sun will soon rise in a couple of hours... Let’s see how long you can hide from us.’
Soon he also turned around and joined the group.
Several hours later, the first rays of sun washed over the endless forest, pushing the darkness out of the skies.
Deep within the woods, surrounded by scenes of destruction, Wuhan lay sprawled on the ground, his armor cracked and his pride shattered. He stared at the sky with a wry smile on his face, ’That damned monster.’
A couple of steps away from him lay the broken dragon spear he had used to aim at the head of the Lord of the Night. Now... it was lying in two pieces; the luster on its surface could not be seen anymore.
Wuhan slowly raised his hands and spread his palm, aiming at the sun rays in the sky before clenching it into a fist, "Just how many enemies have you made..."
His voice drifted along the fresh air, reaching no one.
After so ti, he forced himself to get off the ground and leaned against the nearby tree trunk, half of which had been burned in the fire he had caused last night.
He waved his hands and brought out a white pill that looked no different from any ordinary pill and popped it into his mouth.
