The two of them stepped out into the neon-lit streets of the Japanese city.

Storefronts glowed with paper lanterns and bright kanji signs, advertising izakayas, ran shops, and yakiniku joints.

Yverine was already waiting for them by the corner, leaning casually against a lamppost in a dark bomber jacket, earbuds hanging loose around her neck.

Her eyes caught Brandon imdiately, then flicked to Naevora "You took your ti."

"We had to deal with soone struggling with her boots," Brandon replied, pointing at Naevora.

Naevora jabbed him with her elbow. "Shut it."

Yverine lowered her head before turning away "Let's just eat. I haven't had proper Japanese food in ages."

They ended up at a traditional washoku-style restaurant, tucked in a quiet side street near the river.

A red noren curtain fluttered above the entrance, and the gentle clack of wooden sandals could be heard inside as waitresses moved between tatami mat rooms.

Paper lanterns hung from the ceiling, casting their delicate light over scroll paintings and small bonsai in the corners.

A young hostess in a yukata greeted them with a bow.

Understanding that they are foreigners, she spoke in english "Three?" she asked, smiling politely but visibly flustered, looking at Brandon.

Brandon nodded his head with a smile "Yeah."

"Follow ."

She led them to a quiet, private corner where they settled around a low table.

The three of them removed their shoes.

Brandon instinctively sat cross-legged, glancing curiously at the nu written in kanji and also English, while Naevora reclined on a cushion.

Yverine picked up the nu and looked at it quickly. "Unagi don for ," she muttered. "And maybe so karaage."

Naevora leaned over Brandon's shoulder and pointed. "Get that too. And oden. Oh! And the pork katsu."

The waitress returned with tea and took their orders, her hands slightly trembling as she placed the cups in front of Brandon.

When the food arrived, it was a beautiful spread of lacquered bowls of miso soup, steaming plates of rice topped with glazed unagi, crisp karaage arranged neatly with shredded cabbage, and a large communal hotpot of oden gently bubbling in the center.

The rich aromas filled the air, making the hunger in their stomachs rise.

Yverine wasted no ti digging in.

Naevora daintily picked up a piece of karaage with her chopsticks, bit into it, and closed her eyes in pure bliss. "Gods, I could kiss the chef."

Brandon took a bite of his rice, chewing slowly. "This is nice."

Naevora, halfway through her second plate, paused and glanced at Brandon. "So… how about training the technique tonight? You in for it?"

Brandon gave her a side glance, "I'm taking a break."

"I see." She let out a sigh. "Motivation wore off now that your 'reward' isn't right in front of you?"

Yverine looked between them, frowning. "Reward?"

Brandon coughed into his tea.

Naevora turned away dramatically. "Nothing. Just... future incentive."

Yverine narrowed her eyes as she sensed sothing is wrong "You're all disgusting."

Brandon's lips twitched "You're the one chewing chicken like it insulted your mother."

Yverine flipped him off with her chopsticks.

By the ti they finished, their plates were empty, their bellies full, and the atmosphere relaxed.

The hum of the restaurant had quieted as it neared closing, and outside, the streetlights shimred against the wet pavent from a brief evening drizzle.

As they stepped outside, Naevora tilted her head toward the sky, breathing in deeply.

"Japan's got nice air. Feels cleaner here," she murmured.

As the three walked down the lantern-lit street under a sky dotted with faint stars and the occasional plane passing by.

Brandon was on his mobile chatting with Han Dhayun about dinner.

They walked in comfortable silence for a while, weaving through narrow lanes where the city quieted.

Their path took them near the Sumida River, where the water reflected the city lights like scattered stars dancing on the current.

---

As they neared the hotel again, the buzz of the city rising around them once more, Naevora nudged Brandon with her shoulder.

"You are training later, right?"

Brandon raised an eyebrow "Now you're back on that?"

"I wasn't done," she said, as her expression turned serious.

"You've gotten stronger, yeah. But you know it's not enough. You're walking a path where hesitation kills. You can't afford to slack."

Yverine nodded beside her "She's right. You're talented, but you're still raw. Every day you don't push yourself, soone else widens the gap."

Brandon exhaled slowly "I know."

Looking at him, she muttered "If you do end up practicing… I'll be on the rooftop later. Just saying."

---

Brandon walked up the stairs and a deep sigh escaped his lips "She really is on the rooftop."

He reached the top of the stairs, pausing for a mont in front of the weathered tal door that led to the hotel's rooftop.

The handle was cool to the touch as he grasped it, and with a quiet creak, he pulled the door open.

The night's cold air kissed his skin and he stepped onto the rooftop.

He looked up at the expansive sky and then glanced at the night city in front of him.

A low tal railing ran along the edges of the rooftop, and to one side there was a sitting area arranged with minimalist outdoor furniture.

There was a cushioned couch, low wooden tables set with food, and several pots of greenery positioned around for ambiance.

Warm light spilled faintly from solar lanterns placed at the corners, casting long shadows along the rooftop floor.

Naevora sat sprawled comfortably on the couch, one leg bent up casually beneath her, the other extended out.

Her long coat was folded neatly over the armrest, leaving her in a snug black top and dark leggings and her toned arms are visible as she leaned back on one hand.

Her black hair was slightly tousled by the wind, strands dancing freely in the breeze.

She held a glass of sothing amber-colored... whiskey or maybe iced tea, in her hand.

Brandon stood there for a mont, the wind brushing over his cheeks, as he looked at her.

Naevora looked up from her drink "Took you long enough."

Brandon closed the door behind him and walked forward, hands stuffed in his pockets.

He ca to stand by the railing, resting his elbows on it as he gazed at the city below. "Guess I'm too easy to read."

Naevora shook her head faintly "Guess so..."

After a mont, he turned and walked over, sitting down on the couch beside her.
